Great video of the Durango & Silverton narrow gauge railroad there in Southwestern Colorado. I'm a very serious railroad fan. 7 members of my family worked on the Lehigh Valley railroad out of Coxton Yard which today is the Reading & Northern Pittston yard. I travel by train long distance. I have traveled by train 68 times since 1972.
I grew up watching this Train when it still made runs between Durango and Farmington, New Mexico. It was wonderful to watch her going down the tracks. God Bless You.
I remember that I film the Durango & silverton narrow gauge railroad with the k-36 D&RGW # 482 from Durango to silverton even to film the diesel swicher, D&RGW # 481, D&RGW # 480, the roundhouse, and the museum.
We will be riding it on June 2 this year, on the 2nd trip of the day, but the Cumbres & Toltec is by far my favorite. The D&S is just too cute. My wife loves it though, especially shopping for trinkets in Silverton. This year it is her choice and we are taking our grand-daughter for HS graduation.
That is one very long very heavy train for one small engine. It runs so smooth for a smaller driver locomotive. Huge counter weights on the drivers. You don't see many 2 8 2's. And, that is some of the scariest track I have ever seen too. Those engineers are pretty brave.

Wonder whatever happened to the line now between Durango and Chama?
It would be so cool to live in a town that had a steam train. I would ride it as much as I could! They're fun!
This one costs about $200 round trip, worth every penny though!!!
You got some really nice shots there. Especially running beside her.

Loved the pacing footage. How did you get so steady?
493 might be steaming again from what I heard.
Excited going on friday
Is part 2 coming soon? Really enjoy this footage. Thanks.
The 482 looks AMAZING!!! Was she overhauled recently?
I don't think so but this was the beginning of the season, so she wasn't covered in as much soot
Very nice train.
When did they paint the front of 482 silver. I don't recall that when I rode that train back in 2006.
very good video
I really love the shot at 7:43 Great job! And also where is the shot at 14:47 ?
I found it on Google maps just go up the tracks a little bit not to the high mountain ridges but a little bit before that.
What is the number of the steam train in the video
Every whistle on 482 sounds different all in the years.
brian falzon I agree
brian falzon they are all the same whistle. Just tweaked a little different and quilled a little different
Brian Falzon no the whistle they have now are fine
@@brianfalzon6739 their whistles are fine
@@MPT_Productions ok

Is it 2.5 feet gauge?
D&SNG is 3' between the rails.
Here we call it meter gauge
What's up with the Colorado flag and the American flag? Is that new?
