Nathan, I must disagree with you regarding the spare tire for the Honda. Have you ever, being in Colorado, had to change a tire while being in deep heavy snow? Getting the tire out from underneath a vehicle when snow and everything is packed underneath the vehicle, is extremely tough. I would much rather deal with the stuff in the bed than the stuff under. This also keeps the tire in much more protected surrounding.

But if you are in the middle of a trial and get a flat, there’s a good chance the spare won’t make it back to the pavement.

Jeff 1001 . I don’t own one but I know a few people who have em, they all say it’s a great truck. It’s good on gas, very comfortable, cheap to insure and super reliable. And these guys haul boats and smaller campers with it, so it’s pretty good.
I'd take a Honda engine over a Ford any day.

I hope all is well with you. I have a Honda Ridgeline 2019 Sport AWD. Know what you need and want as far as as a new vehicle goes. Tacoma vs Frontier vs Ridgeline was challenge (I enjoyed the Frontier)! What are you going to haul 5 thousand lbs. or more (consider)?!
These were my final two choices before buying a midsize pickup. I studied them both for years (even before the Ranger went on sale). I was all set to buy the Ranger until I test drove it. I'm 6'5" 220lbs and while I fit in the truck, it really had no more room in it than the Ford Escape. The interior materials where cheap feeling. The top of the door where I rest my elbow was hard plastic. The 4WD system has no "auto" mode to kick in if you are in heavy rain where you can't really lock in 4-high. I, like many others, thought the Ridgeline was a minivan with the back cut off. And ya know what...it is! And it's marvelous. If you don't go off road (I never do) and you don't tow (I don't own a trailer) then the Ridgeline is perfect. It's big, roomy, and comfortable on the inside. A Ranger in its base trim is pretty spartan. I bought a 2019 Ridgeline Sport (2nd level trim after the base) to get the AWD and paid $28k for it. It has crew cab, V6, AWD, keyless entry, push button start, remote start, and of course the AWD system is always on and is always working. It is the same system as the Acura Super Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. The Ridgelines system will actually torque vector, even in the dry. Things like speeding up the outside wheels to pull you around a corner. It handles marvelously! Then there is the dual action tailgate and the in-bed trunk which is absolutely invaluable. I could never own a truck without it again. It's so dang convenient!
And maintenance is so freakin easy. All drain and fill plugs are easily accessible even without lifting the vehicle. There are no stupid "aero" panels or "bash plates" under the vehicle. The rear doors on the 2017-2019 models were designed to not open fully...something most owners hated. You can buy the front door checkers for $30 and fix the issue in 30 minutes in your garage with basic hand tools then the doors open nearly 90 degrees. I drive mostly highway miles and I have been exceeding the EPA numbers quite a bit. Even in town I get better than 20mpg and I am not hypermiling it. Just driving normally.
Nathan and Andre gave the trucks fair reviews, and for THEM the Ranger is the better choice because they like to take really expensive trucks off road. I don't. Even if I had a truck like a Raptor, Power Wagon, or TRD Pro, I'd never take it off road and risk denting, scratching, or worse.....rolling it over. I just baby my vehicles too much to ever abuse them.
For my daily commute, trips to Home Depot for mulch and landscaping supplies, tossing my motorcycle in the bed to head to the mountains, making grocery runs (that in-bed trunk can hold lots of groceries!), picking up furniture or appliances, hauling junk to the dump, etc...the Ridgeline is MORE than adequate. You just have to be able to set aside your male bravado and endure the comments from the knuckle draggers who say, "That ain't no truck", "That's a woman's truck", etc.

Love my 2020 Sport, after a year, I have no regrets, still loving it! Not hateful of the other trucks, just picked out one that suited me! Great in 12” of Snow, on inclines. Start and stop for stop signs, and take off without spinning a tire, on an incline, two winters in a row! Keeps me from off road, needing wreckers!
I just think the ford is an absolutely miserable value. It's too cramped and cheap to be plush, it's too small to be family-friendly, and the bed is tiny. The Ridgeline is what it is and that is a super-capable open-ended CUV with surprisingly high payload and lots of clever touches. It would sell better with a 2 inch lift and slightly bigger wheels and tires. If that's just not enough... get a 2.7 F150. The mileage will be about what the Ranger gets and it will be MUCH more capable. It will be even less equipped than a fancy Ranger but you will have a much better foundation for towing and more room than 5 people could possibly need. I ended getting a Ram Classic because I found a leftover one that was a fantastic price and hadn't been sold. I'm spending a lot more for gasoline though.

One thing you guys missed is the Ridgeline is best at hauling the most important cargo--three car seat latches in that rear bench. Plus, space wise, it is the only truck in its class that can fit three car seats across in the back seat.
Bought a 2019 Ridgeline and the more I drive it, the more I love it!
And the only truck in it's class that enables you to put 4x8 sheets flat in the bed between the wheel wells.
Just took a 2000 mile road trip in my 2019 Ridgeline. 3 passengers in comfort, including the backseats. All our luggage in the in-bed trunk secured and protected from weather. 3 Mountain bikes in the bed and towing a pop up trailer. This scenario would have been really difficult and uncomfortable in any other mid size truck. Also because of that FWD / transverse mounted engine architecture, it has a really short hood and is super easy to park and maneuver in tight spaces. Call it what you will, it’s a damn nice vehicle that does most truck stuff too.
The Ridgeline is a FWD minivan with a bed.
And don’t bother retorting it’s available with AWD because they are all transversely mounted drivetrains which means FWD in behavior, construction and spirit.

@BC 08. Mine is AWD which means better in snow and ice on the road, with individual wheel torque vectoring, than the simple 4WD systems on other mid sized trucks. It’s kind of it’s own category, and a pretty great vehicle. More like it are coming. There will always be a place for BOF trucks, if you do a LOT of towing or if you do a LOT of off-roading, but you give up a lot of comfort, handling, and interior space to get those extra, and for most people, barely used capabilities. I’m glad truck “guys” don’t like it, as I got a hell of a deal on it. I always wonder if these guys driving their bro-dozers around with nothing in the bed but air, also hang family photos with a fourteen pound sledge.
I recall where Honda did a extensive survey of truck owners when designing the Ridgeline. Most people used very little of the capability of a large truck. Most never take their vehicle off a surfaced road. Those that do, only do so a very small percentage of the time (less than 10%). The Ridgeline is intended to be an urban transporter similar to an SUV with some truck capability - which is how the majority of trucks are used by non-tradesmen. The ride is extremely comfortable.
The advantage of the spare tire location in the Honda is that it keeps the spare free of salt/mud/dirt since it will most likely never be used. Also protects against theft. Regarding the push button shifter, I have that same shifter in my Honda Clarity. Took me maybe 10 minutes to get used to it, don't mind it at all.
I've had trucks throughout my life. I used them for work and play. At 60, I just want something I can haul a kayak or mountain bike in. The days of heavy yard work are behind me. I'm looking at the ridgeline because its reliable, fuel efficient, handles well and parks easily. Would I get it to haul gravel? Nope, but it's perfect for what i need at my stage in life.
It'll haul your gravel too. Without damaging the bed!
I've seen 2 motorcycles, an atv, dirt/top soil, sod, on the bed of a ridgeline. Oh, and gravels as well.

You will not regret it,go test drive it. I love big truck like everybody else but it's overkill for me. I love the trunk where I can leave my expensive tools and not have to worry.

To be clear: AWD Drive Honda Ridgeline will TOW 5000 lbs. and comes with a Transmission Cooler. Prewired for Brake Controller and class two hitch and 7pin standard. FWD can only TOW 3500 lbs.

@@tebibyte2357 Not many folks. Very few FWD Ridgelines are sold. The only buyers getting the FWD model are the ones who genuinely only bought for appearance. I love the appearance myself, but there is still no way I'd buy without other supporting reasons.

The ridgeline is a truck. It has a bed and is far more capable than vehicles everyone would consider midsize trucks from a couple years ago. Like you guys mentioned, its capabilities exceed the needs of 90% of buyers and comes with a lot of creature comforts missing in other trucks. Unibodys can be made much more rigid than body-on-frame vehicles if they are engineered to do so, which neither of you know if they did. The only reason this thing is being hated on is because it looks like a minivan. Honda severely screwed up its styling on this one- had it looked a little boxier, even just more like the old ridgelines front end with a hair more ground clearance- everyone would be happy to call this a truck.

Reminds me of a mini Avalanche! I worked for a construction company that all superintendents drive the ridgeline. Pretty reliable and some have crazy amounts of miles on them. I have a 93 ranger 2.3l 5sp 2wd with 478000 miles on it that i drive to work everyday. Has been reliable as a hammer!!!
What they did with the bed is amazing. I like storage innovations.

You guys forgot to mention the back seats fold straight up. I have put my expensive mountain bike back there a few times so I can run errands without worrying about theft. Very convenient!

You're right on. I thought the same thing. The problem with the Navigation system wasn't the system as much as it was the person failing to use it as directed.
The computer literally tells him each time how to use the command function, he just chooses for whatever reason to totally ignore what she saying.
Well I drive a Ford and when you hit the voice button you literally can just say "Navigate Snarfs" and it will immediately search for that. I use it quite often as it works very well.
Been planning to buy a new truck to replace my 2003 Taco and have watched all the videos on youtube and decided on the 2020 Ridgeline Sport AWD. I wanted to tow 3,000lbs and do some boon docking. The Ridgeline is more than capable. Thanks for your reviews. The Ridgeline is a truck.

Not everyone needs a RAM power wagon, I didn’t need a truck capable of towing 10,000 pounds. The other day I ran into a guy with a 2.5/ 4 cylinder long bed regular cab manual 2 wd GMC S15, owned it since new 173k and still loved the lil truck, it was all he needed! I don’t care what truck, they all are so useful, depends on what you need! Great comparison guys! New videos from TFL is like getting a Christmas present, wonder what y’all do next!!!
I agree, I think Ford quality has dropped a lot I know I would not trust that engine to last forever with out huge issues. Honda will last forever. I have friends with newer Fords and they're having a lot of dumb issues and quality control problems like leaks and other crap they had to replace a hood and things.

Great review guys...A little known fact about the Ridgeline is that it actually has a frame rail running in a double 'Y' configuration as part of the unibody construction...It also has a steel beam incorporated into the rear cab wall as a safety feature in the event of an accident. Finally, together with the class matching payload capacity (and a 50" wide bed) it has independent rear suspension. I'm looking to tow a 3000 lb trailer with good manners as a daily driver with good gas mileage...This might do the trick. I wish the towing capacity was just a tad higher (6,000?) - this is not an off-road vehicle - more rough road!
The Ridgeline comes with a trailer brake controller wiring harness and there is a plug under the dash above the parking brake. You can purchase any brake controller you want and wire it to the harness and plug it in. Easy! Takes only a few minutes.
Literally installed mine tonight. Snap in and then two screws to mount my Tekonsha. Pretty easy.
Took our 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E to Colorado last fall for some cold weather camping at Taylor Park reservoir. Handled everything we threw at it with ease. Deep snow on the mountain passes, washboarded dirt roads, easy trails off the road to the campsites; all while hauling two kayaks and a trunk full of gear. It’s fantastic at 99.9% of the truck stuff. If I want to go serious off-roading, I have a Jeep. The Ridgeline is hands down the best all around in the midsize market and it only got better for 2020. Hoping they add the front vented seats and rear heated seats they get in Canada next year.

I have owned over a dozen trucks from a Chevy c65 dump truck to a first year Nissan compact pickup that I owned for 11 years. With this small pick up I moved a heaped load of red bricks 🧱 and I towed a mcgreger 25 foot sailboat from N.H. To Virginia ! I also hauled a Kubota backhoe and trailer that was 6,000 pounds with a Tacoma 4 cylinder automatic for years. So I’m sure this little Honda will do what 90% of people need to do !
Note, LED head lights on RTL-E does awesome work at night. For those 45+ can be a game changer. BTW F1 cover (same as on Ranger) is available for Ridgeline. Ridgeline is a city DIY truck! Love it :)
soooooo i got the black edition.... took it to the dirt roads with some tacomas/4runners/jeeps and i was prob having way more fun than them... was able to go faster, obstacles were deff more tense (which means more fun) and when we chilled to sight see everyone gathered around the bed that had audio and drinks..i love the look on peoples faces when they see vtec climbing sand hills haha.
i was very impressed with how it performed I have also done a trip pulling a little camping trailer climbing up Mt. Taylor in NM. Best DD i own, smart cruise control with line that line lane assist is amazing, oh and when we air back up the ridge would honk to let me know it has reached the set PSI. I just got more aggressive tires and a lift coming with some underbody armor and a cold air intake... im actually having more fun in this thing vs my Rubicon jeep..

I’ve owned a 2006 Ridgeline and I have to say I wouldn’t trade it in for anything out right now. Fits all my needs and damn reliable. Keep up the great work Honda.
I owned a 2006 Honda Ridgeline for 13 years, great truck ,I hauled a 4500 lb Trailer Plus all my gear, probably overloaded, all over the country ,no problems, put 150,000 miles on it sold it to my friend he's still driving it, they are supposed to come out with a trail sport Honda Ridgeline it's more Trail worthy it has skid plates and more ground clearance that's what I'm waiting for, there's another Ridgeline in my future.
I don't think the spare location is bad! Sure you have to remove the load, but once you do you know the spare will be clean and easy to remove. WIth under the bed spare storage the lowering mechanism will probably be rusted and jammed. The tire will also be covered in all sorts of nasty junk too.
Honda makes a kit to mount the spare in the bed.

To be safe, your supposed to unload the truck before lifting it anyway. The jack is usually only strong enough to lift the truck unloaded.

Love your videos guys! Watched them a ton when I made my first truck purchase a few years back..... which was a '18 RTL-E! Bought it, for sure - but I don't offroad or tow much of anything. Lots of around the house chores - and I'm a big guy - so the width and CEILING HEIGHT really sold me on my first truck.

On my second Ridgeline and love it. The guys are right, buy it for your needs. I don’t tow, ever. It does a great job with my fishing gear, coolers and hauling junk to the Dump. It’s also very comfortable in both city and highway driving. I paid 39k for a fully loaded RTL-E in 2018. Great, honest video.
For people who don't need hard-core towing, the Ridgeline is more than tough or powerful enough for occasional hauling or towing use, yet be comfortable enough to be a daily commuter or long-distance ride. If you can afford only one vehicle, this is a pretty good one vehicle to have.

I often load three full size dirt bikes in the back.
In the trunk we usually put 3 pairs of dirt bike boots, gas can, tool box and some other small equipment.
In the cabin with 3 adults, we put the gear bags under/over the seats and everything fits very comfortably.
I don't think any other midsize truck could fit all that.

My 2006 Ridgeline RTL with 188k miles just pulled a 4,600lb 24' Tritoon (32' overall trailer length) from Dallas to Mid Missouri. Original engine, transmission, 4WD/AWD drivetrain. Btw second most reliable truck ever made according to reports (all hail the Taco), plus 1,700lb payload, not sure how much more these things need to do to prove they're "real trucks".

Guys, you should use the sport mode in the ranger to disable the little lag you felt.. I have a 2019 ranger and it really does make a difference when you drive. Normal and Sport mode are a really different world!
Do you notice a difference in gas mileage with that on all the time?
I dont know I use it on short periods only when needed its a nice feature. I will do the test someday.
With the ranger, you are limited by hardware well above where the software is cutting it off. Most of the perception change happens in transmission tuning in the switch from normal to sport. However, there is a lot of power on tap to be used. With the fuel system present and not being near boost limits, you can quite literally command more power and it will make more power.
With a naturally aspirated motor you can increase timing or clean up the efficiency of the tune but nothing like telling the motor to make more with the abundance available.
When you do tune it, sport mode is even more convenient because it can be just that, sport mode. You can leave normal alone and change the tables in sport only. Then sport would actually make considerably more power than normal while maintaining all the positive characteristics of normal mode.

@@danh8302 I just got done tuning my ranger with the hptuners program. There's is no sport mode outside of transmission settings. The stock tune is awful, I was getting fuel knock because of how rich it's setup and timing was pulled till I cleaned up the maps but I didnt see a separate map for sport mode. Did I miss something?
One thing that you overlooked was that the Sync 3 navigation system asked you to say "Find" your destination. Andre said "Navigate" to... I believe if you used the words it asked for it may help. I could be wrong, but it could make the difference.
Other than that, keep up the good work.
I have the 2020 Honda RTL-E and I really do Love it. I am not crazy about the styling but the function of this car/truck (we call it a Crunk) is all I really need.

Yea pretty much sums up my needs. Might throw some hunting/fishing gear in the bed (that bed cooler looks lovely for fishing) but other than that it won’t be getting any skids of concrete or anything like that. This is basically a vehicle for people who love their car/suv but wish it had a bed to throw the more awkward items into. I’m really liking the new 2021 look.

I have a 2013 Ridgeline sport, love it, crossover comfortable, half ton sized interior, but having a truck box is super useful, typical Honda engine performance, she goes hard above 3,000rpm.

Maybe not, but you'll see someone pulling a fully wet camping trailer, with a bunch of stuff in the bed, and a family of 5 in the truck with the big dog. thats pretty much the same payload wise.

I looked long and hard at a Ridgeline, it's the only midsize truck that's really capable of hauling 5 people. Heck, its back seat even sits a few inches higher off the floor than an F-150 and seat cushion width is within an inch or two, so if the legroom is OK it's actually pretty comfy. Its AWD is far superior to traditional 4x4 systems in winter conditions, and its payload is more than a lot of full size trucks, including most Tundras. But in the end, I got an F-150 similarly equipped for about the same money as what Honda dealers wanted. The Ridgeline didn't make much sense unless I really needed that small size, which I didn't.
Damn this is exactly how I feel. I actually like the storage under the bed on the ridgeline and hear the ride comfort is nice but for the prices you can get a crewcab.. I am for sure getting a slightly uded f150 or ram crew cab for a next vehicle for mid $20k.. Wish i did before gettin my new kia optima in 2012.. Went from a 2001 ranger to a car... Never again
plmn93 F-150 are a dime a dozen. Probably the resale will be better in five years on Ridgeline, via scarcity.
Note, backup camera with 3 different angles and cross traffic alert in Rigeline. It is just so much nice have for city. :)

@@oakleyfreak45 guys, I do value utility of Ridgeline truck bed as DIY. Can't care less of others "seeing" or "real truck". My needs may be very different from yours. So my choice is Ridgeline. You may prefer Ranger. It's OK. Our needs are just different. Please cool down with "real truck" thing. "real" has almost no value for me. Yes, for commuters in the city with periodical dirt loads. Trailer is not a convenient choice for me. I got it for convenience + comfort = utility :)
I’d take a Ridgeline over the Ranger simply because Ecoboost engines are an absolute nightmare to work on. Turbo cooling lines leaking, turbo oil lines clog, intercooler leaking etc... Honda 3.5L V6 is very reliable. Honda is the way to go, at least over a Ranger. If I was to buy any new midsize, I’d go with a Jeep Gladiator. Honestly %99 of truck owners should own a Ridgeline because they don't even use or need all that size and capability. Always funny seeing guys spend 50k on a new truck just so they can look cool and go to home Depot 4 times a year.
Depends. Half-tons are also faster and can get much nicer like the new Rams. Raptors and GMs with the 6.2 are pretty fun to drive, sports car level acceleration with plenty of Room for the family and still have decent sized bed.

I bought the RTL just to keep the volume knob and the touch screen on the higher end models is awful.
It has always been covered under warranty, but its been in the shop more than it should have. Transmission pressure switch, engine fuel injector troubles and a clicking cabin blower.
I totally went with it because I do not need a truck but I love having the bed.
I’m on my second Ridgeline I started with a 2014 and upgraded to a 2018. I really love this vehicle. One thing, towards the end, he talks about the depth of the ranger bed as though it’s a disadvantage. The only thing I don’t like about my newer ridge is that the shallow bed is a pain in the ass when you have cargo of minimal height and want to close the tonneau. You can’t the bed is so shallow a lot of household work gear won’t lay down and still allow you to close the tonneau
I love this vehicle. My friend owns one (actually 2). It can do a lot of stuff which people may not believe.
I do however wish they make the frontend of the Pilot and the Ridgeline a little more rugged.

I would classify the Honda is an El Camino or Ranchero type vehicle. And as far as the reach on the bed I use my pick up to go to the dump I want a higher sides so my trash doesn’t fly out. At 73 years old I’m just old school give me a shifter in the center consul over buttons any day. Love your videos keep up the good work
The Ridgeline is more like the current Ford Explorer, which also has unitized construction.
I have the same V6 engine in my 2011 Acura TSX. It really is a jewel of an engine and will last a long, long time. I actually get 28-29 mpg on long road trips doing about 80-85 mph and just a regular 5-speed transmission.

I've only filled that space to the tippy top with soft stuff (like blankets). Not really a big deal to move one or two items to get to the spare. I love this spare location. I don't need to get under the vehicle to access it. No stupid cable to play with either.

Yea they meant if you put a skid of something above the cooler location. But lets think here. If your truck is filled with a load, should you really be trying to jack it up and throw a spare on? The spare tire will never be used anyway. Most of the time the tire can be refilled with air and last for a day or two. I don’t know of anyone who has ever needed to use a spare tire. It’s probably a one in a thousand year event. Unless you carry a tire inflator the spare will be flat by the time you’d ever need it.
Owned 3 RLs now. In bed spare only bit once in 400k mi or so. Used to two 6500# cargo trailer and oft loaded bed. Got a flat on interstate towing and had to unload @ a dozen boxes to get into trunk. But laying up under a nasty underbody may not have been a lot better.
Yes. Also, the story is the same with almost every family sedan ever. If you load up the trunk, then you'll have a day of it getting to the spare in the trunk floor.

I think every time someone talks about a "truck" they refer to things you would do with full-sized 4x4 off-road capable trucks. The Ridgeline is a mid-sized, I had a Frontier and traded for a Ridgeline. I miss the 4-low, but this last summer I did a 5000 mile trip with a 4800lbs travel trailer attached, and a motorcycle, generator, gas cans and gear filling the bed. It was clearly at max capacity but handled it all amazingly well, even in heavy winds and mountain passes. I bought it because the Frontier was uncomfortable, the Tacoma doesn't have enough pull (in my opinion) and I don't trust American brands to not break in the middle of nowhere. I put on 30k miles per year, and just passed 100k with only a couple of minor hiccup issues covered under warranty. I might eventually upgrade to a Titan if I want to bring a 2nd motorcycle, but otherwise I'm good. For the off-road needs I have my old TJ and a Yamaha WR250R.
beoldziewski , it’s been great for road trips . I’ve hauled an engine/transmission, engine hoist, compressor, tools, cooler and jacks. It drove smooth, accelerated fine, and was able to go 80mph and average 25.9 mpg during that trip.

I would like to see you guys compare actual tasks you would commonly do in a "real" pick up.
Other than off-road activities like rock crawling or undulating trails, I would argue the Ridgeline will do anything a "real" pick up can.
The off-road capabilities of the AWD Ridgeline Is just as good as pick ups with 4X4 with the same ride height when it comes to mud and snow with the same tires. Show us why the Ridgeline is not a "real" truck. I'll bet you won't find any real reason you call this not a "real" pickup truck other than your opinions. I enjoy your videos. Keep it up.
The ridgelines tranny heats up when driving up steep hills off road, fully Independant suspension is awesome if it has sufficientl wheel travel, but this has limited wheel travel, you are stuck with those tiny tires, zero aftermarket support, so no long travel suspension kits or lift kits, if you aren’t going off road it will be an awesome vehicle to own, it’s basically a car with a bed, to be fair I don’t like any midsize truck, although the jeep truck is the nicest but I’d never spend the money they want.
Its mostly a family hauler that happens to have a bed. The abuse that people put on more dedicated trucks it doesn't hold a candle hence why its geared for the people that don't really need a truck but like the idea of having the bed when they do find they need it. If you need a midsize almost all the other brands are better like the Ford Ranger/Toyota Tacoma/Chevy Colorado.

As a tow vehicle it's worst in class, so that's at least one "real" pickup task it doesn't do as well as others. But I do hate when people try to ask if things are "real" whatever, simply asking the question implies they are not a "real" whatever and only invites trolling. This is a "real" truck by definition but does not use a traditional truck architecture, which has positives and negatives.

We have had our Ridgy for 2 years, 36,000 miles. I get 26/27 cruising at 65/70 mph. About 20 combined mileage. My only con is that my mother in law has trouble getting in because of ride height.

@@zachl6918 The 6, after all, how many do you really need? My thought is that it is better for the longevity of the engine. The more gears the less change in RPMs as it shifts. I think it is better for the engine to rev up higher and then lower as it shifts.

Great video guys, I love the independent suspension, the versatility and the on road manners and the interior of the Ridgeline. What it and all the mid-size trucks need are more power and torque from a 6 cyl. gas plant.
I tow a travel trailer and have a 2017 Ridgeline which has been perfect for me. Looking at options now for what I tow, the new Ridgeline is still a match.
You have the option to remove the spare and screw it into the truckbed wall behind the drivers side. You can use a security screw for antitheft purposes. Can fit fullsized or spare.
...or mount it on the top of the cab in a roof rack for that matter. If you think about it, a spare tire is typically mounted in a most inconvenient space in most vehicles! Mounting the spare outside the expected space gives you that newly emptied space for other things to hide. ;)

Picking up a 2020 RTL in a few days. Our definition of a truck is a truck bed, able to use that bed and also be able to tow within the payload and towing capacity of that truck. We are the DIY home type and also minimalist RV travelers. We think we're going to love the Ridgeline for its comfort and extras. In the past, we've owned the Colorado and Tacoma trucks.
He mentioned that if the ranger had a manual transmission it would be the perfect truck, and I agree with him. Luckily it just so happens to have one here in Australia, though it is only available with the 3.2 litre I-5 turbo diesel.

Thanks for the video. It is funny I recently bought a truck and I narrowed it down to these two. I am Honda guy so I thought for sure I would go with the Ridgeline. I was graduating from a minivan to a truck. I share that because it is a big reason I went with the Ranger. When I test drove the Ridgeline it drove and felt just like my former minivan and I wanted something that drove like a truck. In addition the Ranger’s power was a lot better. It is always instant on torque. The Honda’s v6 was very nice but not a truck motor - great when it got up in the rev range but so so at the lower range.
For me both of these truck suck! If it doesn't come with a manual, it's a minivan. Lol

I currently drive an '18 CRV that I bought after my beloved '01 Tundra was t-boned. The CRV is awesome, but turns out it's not my cup of tea. I miss my Tundra terribly, so have decided to to get either a Ridgeline or Tacoma Sport. The more I watch videos of both, the more I'm leaning toward the Ridgeline.
This video is really enjoyable. So much so, that I paused it at the midway point and jumped over to Amazon to buy that gorgeous Hula Girl the guys have on the dash of this Ridgeline. She reminds me of the Hawaii vacation we had to cancel this year because of covid. I'll just keep her on my dash until this covid bs passes. Anyways, love the video. Great job, guys!

Whenever people talk about the price of the Ranger I have them looking at this way. I had a 2016 F-150 XLT supercab sport and it was 43k being a middle of the road trim level.
If you get the fully loaded Ranger at 46k in an F-150 that would cost you roughly 60K. Personally I love my Ranger and honestly no regrets on the switch.

My 2006 Ridgeline had the ability to mount the spare tire to the inside bed wall. Never did it, and never had to use the spare in my 10 years of ownership. My brother & friend both have Ridgelines with over 200k miles.
I understand that Honda sells a kit for the 2017 and newer Ridgelines to mount the tire in the bed wall.
Hey guys, awesome video once again! I test drove the same trim ranger and found it to have adequate power. Then I put it into SPORT mode, and it felt like it completely changed, significantly more aggressive off the line! I noticed when you tested the ridgeline you put it in sport mode and got the 8.8sec. I didn’t notice if you had put the ranger into sport mode as well or not? Might have gotten a better time then 8.9 if you had?
It’s an older review, but I bought a 2021 Ridgeline. I definitely like the improved front fascia and my truck was already lifted 2” at the dealership! It had 265\60\18 tires on factory wheels. They were BFG KO2s and were hard!! Load range E is 10 plies and too stiff, I went to a Good Year Wrangler Adventures that are P metric or 4 ply. They can handle the payload and as such are just fine. The ride is like factory now. So smooth for a pickup. It is the nicest driving/riding truck I have ever owned. My last full size truck was a 2019 F150 Raptor that rode well also.
The Navigation system, if you are an owner, works just fine. You don’t have to touch the screen. You may do better learning the navigations system for each vehicle before trying it out. Every actual owner will have done so. You are not accurately representing the every day usability of the product by failing to represent it as an owner. I have said this before.
I go fishing a lot and tow a 6x12 V-nose cargo trailer that weighs about 2500 lbs the trunk and the under seat storage is excellent to be ready to fish without the inflatable boat and camping gear. When I want to get out there, I can by just hooking up to the trailer! I have 2 x 6 foot bunks in the trailer so I am all set! I have not been using my F150 for fishing at all. The Ridgeline has been so much better off-road than I anticipated. It’s no serious off-roader, but is much better than I thought. I was torn between the Ridgeline, Tacoma, or Ranger. The height in the Ranger was an issue, I have some permanent injuries. The Tacoma was not nearly as comfortable, was somewhat underpowered, reliability was not as good as the Ridgeline and only compared similarly well to the Ford. The Ridgeline is more useful (payload!!! Less than 1000 lbs Toyota???? Ughhh), much more comfortable and a nice height to use, even with the 2” lift.
Is the Ridgeline a truck?? Yep! Drop 3000 lbs into the back?? Tow 2,000 over the rating?? What the h*ll?? You can’t do that with any of the midsize trucks!!! Get a grip! The frame is there, confirmed in a Tacoma for example, but the actual structure combined on a Tacoma vs the Ridgeline will show the structure is more rigid and capable in the Ridgeline!! I’m an old farmer that had a ranch and tire shop so have had over 200 full size trucks for my crews and myself. I’m not so blind or narrow minded to rule out the fact there is a different structural design but the vehicle is still as capable structurally even though they are designed differently.
The Tacoma has a composite bed so no way you are dropping a load of gravel in there unless you want it to look seriously used. It’s a truck, so that’s ok. I have hauled gravel in my Ridgeline, but used a tarp to protect the bed and trunk.
The Ridgeline is a truck! I am ok with crossover pickup due to the design, but not for the examples listed in the video,,,,. I have never in my 45 years of truck ownership, including with the Ranching, dropped something 3000 lbs over the payload in a truck, half ton or full size.
Love your videos ,Wife drives 16 CRV and me a 07 titan ,I know it is paid for,but I am getting to a point were I do not need a big truck anymore , and I have been thinking of the ridgeline as a replacement and it is something the wife would drive,she hates driving my truck and the older I get so do I.
The Ridgeline is way more quiet, smooth, comfortable and practical than any other pick up truck.

Glad you guys mentioned the speakers and the cooler like cargo space in the box of the Honda. Should have turned the speakers on and filled the box with beer, everyone in the comments would change their minds about it.
I was appalled at the quality of the Colorado and the ranger. The interior feels rental grade at best. All the switchgear felt chintzy and cheap. I went with the honda.
Are you happy with the Ridgeline?
I have a 2016 Colorado Z71 with the Duramax. Agree 100% that the interior is shabby, cheap and poorly designed. Love the 2.8 diesel, but the transmission is just so-so. It has a ton of potential hampered by questionable design choices and parts bin, penny pinching materials selection.
I was shopping with a limit of about $30k, and I felt that the Ranger was the best option. I agree the Ridgeline is in another class, but it is priced there too. Of course, I agree with your perspective that the Honda is a better value compared to a comparably priced optioned-up Ranger or Colorado. My 2020 Ranger XL FX2 looks and feels worth it's 29k MSRP IMO, although I paid less than that and more than the $26.5k I first offered. Test driving XLT models, I could see the worse value proposition, exacerbated on a Lariat no doubt. I thought the Colorado V6 and interior was just too boring and rental car-like as you said.

Nice video. One point I'll argue. Having the spare in the bed, although problematic when the storage is full, is so much more convenient for us in the frozen north. Trying to unfreeze a spare covered in ice and slush, on the side of the road in a snow storm is much more problematic:-)

Great review. The MSRP on the Ranger is high, but that's just the starting point! Most truck people add a LOT of accessories: wheels, tires, suspension level/lift, bed liner, tonneau cover, fender flares, etc in addition to more basic things like LED headlights and fog lights. The aftermarket for the Honda is pretty limited, but thankfully it doesn't need a lot to be useable. Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of Honda or unibody trucks. I love my F150, but the Honda makes a great case for a vehicle in the way MOST people use one.

Not saying the Ridgeline isn't capable. The Honda rep at the car show I attended last year said the Ridgeline is a "city truck". Based on the rep's statement, I am sure Honda is catering this truck to the more non-off road people who live in a more urban area who need pick-up truck capabilities from time to time.
My friend in Northern, BC Canada had a Honda Ridgeline as a courtesy vehicle while his F150 was being repaired. The Honda Ridgeline handles amazing in the snow. Better than his F150.

Gotta understand these guys are way into off roading, if you're off roading a hard to access spare is a PITA. That doesn't mean it's a big deal for most people, but it's something guys with off road sensibilities are going to notice and care about.
I’m glad truck beds are taller, when working in construction I hated when coworkers were reaching into my 93 Dakota’s bed by the side... even though I asked them not to , and it ended up all scratched up because of their belts, pockets knifes or whatever, taller beds problem solved...

Love your videos and channels but you shouldnt rate navigation systems when your not using them correctly. Both Honda and Ford would of found Snarf's hands free if you would of said the correct prompts at the correct time.
Were all thinking the same thing. Its frustrating to hear specific clear instructions being read to both of them and yet to watch both totally ignore all instructions. So, definitely not the smartest men on TH-cam.
Ended up getting a 2019 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E and I'm loving it so far. Has a 6 speed, overall an incredible truck for daily use. Id take my Honda's reliability over Ford any day, only thing i would knock is looks, needs knobs. Looks aren't bad would just prefer something more aggressive, other than that its wayyyyy more comfortable than all the other trucks and I'm a car salesman

I'm with others here in saying that the place for the spare in the Ridgeline is a lot better than underneath the car where many are stored. Just a lot less messy and easier to access.

The Ranger has a more useful bed and the suspension can take more of a beating. Hopefully it proves to last 200-300,000 miles like the previous models.
