    I don't go off road and I don't haul pallets of cement, what I do haul is minor stuffs for home improvement from my local Homedepot.
    It drives like a SUV and it's comfortable on long trip, it's perfect for a city slicker like me.

    Just a reminder as to why people who aren't making fashion/masculine statements buy trucks including myself: we buy it for that 10% of the time that we need a real truck. I love camping and I tow a 5,500lb trailer over mountain passes several times per summer and of course I need and am very happy with a real truck for that 10%. Just putting out a reminder as to why people get truck's and that's for the 10% of the time that Ridgeline forums are so against

    The thing I love most about this is that it seems to annoy truck purists, only because the designers chose practicality and comfort over manliness. For the average Joe (pun intended) who just needs to move furniture or grab stuff from Home Depot every now and then, the Ridgeline is more than enough. If you're hauling thousands of pounds of equipment all day, then ok, have your Tundra or Ram 1500...

      @dp4auburn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lucas you nailed it for sure. It’s basically on par with every other midsize truck in capability and beats some of them in payload and towing. Ignorant people seem to think of trucks only as half tons and up, but they sell a ton of midsize trucks and most people with half tons never tow or haul anything more than what they could do easily with a midsize.

    Switched out my 2004 Dakota SLT for a 2020 Ridgeline RTL-E. Roughly the same size as the Dakota, extremely smooth ride (feels like a luxury car), and something few people mention for some reason; FRONT wheel drive until AWD kicks in! Which is a must up here in MN. Then if you don't realize it's slick, you aren't fishtaling when you realize the other two wheels are needed/when the other two wheels kick in. Love my Ridgeline.

    I've owned several pickup trucks over the past 30 years. The most recent truck I sold was a Ford F350 diesel 4x4 that I used to tow a heavy fifth wheel camper. Each vehicle I've owned was a tool to do a job. I only bought that diesel, for example, because it was big, heavy, and had massive torque. Those are things you want when towing a big trailer and it performed that specific job flawlessly. Because that's what it was designed for. When I wasn't towing the fifth wheel the truck wasn't doing what it was really designed for and it was terrible at everything else. Terrible at driving without a full load due to the stiff suspension, terrible at parking, terrible on forest roads, terrible in the snow, terrible ride quality on bumpy dirt roads, and very expensive to work on when things broke.
    My Tacoma was far more reliable and easier to park in the city but it rode like a brick too. But hey, it was also a tool that I needed because I wanted to do some hard-core wheeling on the weekends. This truck is regarded by most people as the best off-road pickup there is and with good reason. IF you want to do serious off-roading. I didn't mind the fact that it had a terrible factory stereo, didn't ride very well, had a cramped interior, no storage, somewhat dated looks, (though not as bad as the Frontier), and had a lot of road noise. These days I have ATV's and dirt bikes to go off-road with and the Ridgeline tows my 4,000-pound trailer full of toys like butter thanks to the nearly 300 HP and 9-speed transmission. So now all I care about is having a truck bed to get stuff at the local hardware store once a month (like most people) and one with a quiet interior, a really nice stereo, a plush ride like a Cadillac, great passing power, reliability, and really good gas mileage. All of those boxes were ticked when I test drove the 2020 Ridgeline. I bought this truck after test driving the 2020 Ranger, Colorado, and Tacoma. I felt the Ridgeline interior was substantially wider (it is, by 4") and the overall ride quality and road noise were FAR better than the competition. (no contest) But the truck "trunk" was the number one selling point for me though because I like to carry a lot of gear in the truck and don't want to worry about it getting stolen. We all know thieves will break in if they see any gear in the backseat. They'll also break into truck toolboxes really easily. But most people don't even know the Ridgeline truck trunk exists. It's under the bed by the tailgate, and it's massive. I keep 2 motorcycle helmets, a pair of jackets, 2 pairs of gloves, riding boots, tie-down straps, a hiking backpack full of gear, 4 hiking poles, a tackle box, and 2 fishing rods in that trunk and lock it then close the tailgate. People walk by the truck, see nothing in the bed, nothing in the seats, and move on. Call it a truck, call it a car with a bed, I don't care. I wouldn't attempt to do any serious off-roading in this vehicle but I can say it handles snow and mud on forest roads and mountain trails really well and I've never gotten stuck. As far as what I want from a truck nowadays, there's just nothing else on the road that comes close to this Ridgeline. It does everything it was designed to do VERY well. Do like I did, right before you buy the truck you think you want, test drive the Ridgeline. It will change your mind. That's what happened to me. LOL

  • @james2042
    @james2042 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Honda Ridgeline is the literal definition of a crossover. It is a cross between a car and a pickup truck. Structurally it is 50% Pilot and 50% Ridgeline with some reinforcements in the middle. People who say "this isn't a truck its an abomination" are correct, but at the same time 90% of half ton and midsize buyers would be happier with a crossover with a bed and full time awd than an an actual truck. Too bad the social stigma around this vehicle is the worst thing about it.
    I wouldn't mind a new Avalanche from Chevy based on the C1XX (traverse/blazer) platform. The payload on that platform is already disgustingly high (around 2000lbs, more than most half ton trucks) so it would trade some towing capability for some absolutely crazy payload in a midsize pickup crossover. They would even be able to bring this pickup to Buick or even caddy which would be a huge plot twist as an upscale crossover pickup would be a one of a kind.

I just feel that they might have more ultimate reliability. I work in a company where all of the field staff drive a great deal. 250-400k+ for the vehicles, and they have all held up very well. When will you review the 2023 Ridgeline and upcoming 2024? I have a 2019 RTL-E, which I improved by adding a tailgate lock, hard Honda tonneau cover and later fixed the poor rear door openings by replacing the door stops with those for a 2020 Ridgeline. The vehicle has performed well during these past 4 years and it has exceeded EPA mpg estimates. Now, I'm looking for more. I'm looking for Honda to provide full LED lighting, hybrid power while still maintaining 5,000 lb towing and not going too crazy on pricing. Thanks for past and future reviews.
    Scott

    So where is this additional $3,900 spent? They haven't even added the volume knob that they've added to every other Honda. As far as I'm concerned, the only things added were a locking tailgate, rear doors that open wider, and a upgraded transmission.

    As mentioned it went from a 6 speed to a 9 speed transmission. Also it looks like a Pilot not a CR-V and shares many parts with the Pilot. There is one thing everybody doesn't get about this truck. I'm a contractor and it is by far the best mid size pickup for real world work. That's because it is 6 inches wider than the other mid size trucks. In fact it is less than an inch narrower than the f-150. But it is only as long as the other mid size trucks almost two feet shorter than a full size. Why does this matter? Because you can slide 4x8 sheet goods in the bed (which is why I could never work out of a Tacoma or the others), the interior is not cramped like the other mid sizers and I believe the width contributes to the great cornering. The two way tailgate is amazing. I almost always swing it open for easy access. The trunk safely carries all my usual tools for the job like a job box but I don't have to jump up in the bed I just reach right in. Lastly it's cold in Minnesota and I have a heated 36x24 foot garage with 2 foot shelves along the back wall and I load and unload this truck in comfort. I could not do that with a full size. The full size trucks have gotten too big this Ridgeline is the same size as full size trucks were a couple of decades ago. There are only two things I don't like; the Pilot front end and the towing limit of 5000lbs.

    The hardest part I have for deciding which mid-sized truck to buy is weighing out the positives and negatives for my lifestyle. I drive on average 30 miles daily M-F to and from work. But on the weekends I drive a bit farther when hauling my 14’ fishing kayak and gear to fishing locations. I currently car top my kayak, hence the need/want for a truck instead. Having 4x4 or all wheel drive will make it easier when launching from the beach. Of course I’ll need a bed extender which I’m aware of. So my thoughts that if I keep my activities low, drive more city roads and highways, and use my bed for lightweight hauling. A new 2020 or 2021 Ridgeline would be a decent purchase.
    Where as I’m also stuck on the price and lack of off-road capabilities as compared to a Toyota Tacoma TRD off road with technology package comes in at around $43k. Although I’m not a huge fan of how they drive and inside cabin space. And for not much more at $45k, a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 looks bad ass and is more than capable for my lifestyle. Since I also often go on road trips with the wife into the mountains, so having something more capable for off-roading would be more beneficial in these situations. Giving us access to more remote areas that are less traveled or crowded.
    So I’m still stuck on deciding which one to buy brand new. 2020-2021 Honda Ridgeline, 2021 Toyota Tacoma Trail edition or TRD off-road. Or a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2.

    I've had a 2017 Ridgeline for 2 years and 40,000 km. It tows well, hauls well but most of all it rides like a big smooth sedan. It goes through deep snow even on all season tires and It's just super for long trips even on twisty challenging roads. Back up camera failed after 1.5 years but so far that's my only complaint. On long trips I've got fuel consumption of as low as 8.3 l/100 km (28 miles/usg). What is it with the volume control problem? Besides the control on the display, which is easy to use, there is a volume control on the left side of the steering with up and down buttons with good tactile feedback. There's no need for a volume knob. I wish it had a couple more inches of additional ground clearance to handle occasional rough roads with high centres.

  • @andreasm2882

    I owned one for 3 years and got rid of it at 53,000 Miles. Transmission overheating issues, variable cylinder management never working correctly,and then there are the adaptive motor mounts that fail way too often and are expensive, fuel injection problem and God forbid you want to go to the mountains and you get hit with one tiny Stone your acoustic windshield will crack it is very thin and so is the paint job. And as soon as temperatures start going below 40 make sure you have silicone spray with you so your windows go down and don't forget to apply it every two to three months. And as cool as the rear tailgate is because its swings out so you can open your trunk eventually your rear backup camera will not work because always opening the tailgate that way you are always pinching the wire harness. But yes it drives wonderful but that will not help the headache it will give you.
