I picked up a 2019 Ridgeline Sport leftover in January. I am very impressed, and I love the ultra smooth and quite ride. I drove a 1992 Nissan Hard Body pickup for 14 years, I than bought a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport Hemi 4X4 and drove for 14 years. The Honda Ridgeline rides so smooth. Very comfortable seats. Not to big so my wife can drive it.

Realistically, you guys nailed it. My wife and I have 1 kid and 1 dog. We don't need a 3rd row. We really don't need a carpeted back end to get dirty at the beach, on a ski trip, or going camping. Ridgeline is the Pilot for the family that fits in it, and is maybe a bit more adventuresome than the Pilot family.
I've towed at least a dozen times with my Ridgeline. If I needed to tow more, I could rent a bigger truck. That said, I never need to tow more.

This is actually one of the best reviews of the Ridgeline I’ve seen. Hits every point on why someone would buy this or not. I’ve owned the full-size large half tons for several decades and just bought one of these recently. It does everything that I need it to do and has a very comfortable ride and great gas mileage. It’s not for some folks, but 90% of the people that need a vehicle that they can throw some mulch, gravel, sod maybe move a piece of furniture now and then this is going to be the best option. I throughly enjoy owning this truck even after owning a large full size truck that admittedly I rarely utilized for the intended use.

I need a pickup occasionally to pick up furniture or perhaps a ladder or some plywood etc. My favorite truck was a GMC 1500 Sierra. However, I am on my second Ridgeline in 16 years and I don't just love it for everything you talk about in the video but because it is well built. Pretty much nothing every goes wrong with my Ridgelines (first generation and now my second generation Ridgeline) unlike the GMC I owned years ago and got rid of because I got tired of paying the extreme and constant repair costs.

Great review, guys. I have the 2020 black edition and it's all the truck I need. I pick up a lot of sheets of plywood and having 50 inches between wheel wells is amazing. I only have 2 complaints so far: tie downs in the bed closest to the tailgate are 4 inches from the floor. I now just take a 4ft 4x4 with me when I'm picking up lumber to assist the ratchet. My biggest complaint is the engine idle stop feature. More often than not it doesn't turn the engine back on in time from when I release the brake to pushing the gas. Causes a stutter and feels like it's going to malfunction. I feel like the button should be to activate it, rather than deactivate it. Other than those 2 issues, I couldn't be happier with my truck.

Like the other day I was getting my van serviced and saw a used 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2 door on the lot. I’ve always loved them and decided to check it out. It was a lifted Rubicon and the effort required to get in it disqualified it automatically. The interior is simple, but overly Spartan for me at this point of my life. It made me realize I’m likely far better suited to the Ridgeline or Passport than I how I envision myself. Great review.

I am glad I was able to watch this before actually buying a truck. By far, this video has been the most informative and realistic amongst all the reviews of the Honda Ridgeline TH-cam videos I've seen. The honest conversation answers the underlying questions truck/car buyers like myself are actually wanting to listen to while in the process of making a decision. In contrast to other reviews I've watched about the Ridgeline, this did not waste my time on information that is already available from the Honda website itself (or dealers) (i.e. measurements, price, the volume knob) which are quite honestly superficial and redundant - unless you don't want to do your own research. Thank you Everyday Driver!

Great review! I currently own a 2008 Ridgeline RTL. I’ve ordered a 2021 Ridgeline RTL-E. Should arrive this month. Great vehicle, meets 98% of all my needs. Excellent utility. Pretty good gas mileage as it has been my daily driver for the last seven years. Easy on maintenance issues as well. A couple of negative things about the 2nd generation truck that I see: 1. the donut spare tire space. Honda removed the spare tire space so that customers can not opt for a normal spare tire. 2. Start/stop feature - the option should be to allow the function, not to disable it. Bummer.

Hey guys, have always loved your straightforward reviews. Last pickup I owned was a Ram 3500 Megacab diesel dually with 6.7 Cummins. Was a Resistal Laramie edition, interior like a great car, could pull a house but rarely used it for that purpose. Retired now and was re-thinking my 'fleet'. My commuter is a 2019 Bolt EV, older Montana van in great shape for the rougher winter weather up here in 'great white north'. Summer car is 2006 MB SL500 Roadster (+ 3 motorcycles). I know, way too much hardware :)
Am going to downsize the fleet, Montana is a good vehicle but pain removing seats to move stuff occasionally. Bolt not being driven much.
Was thinking about a pickup again.Montana would be given to friend for his son.
Got thinking I don't need a full size pickup and if I start travelling again, maybe small travel trailer, R-Pod or similar for me and my dog.
Finalizing a deal on a perfect condition, very low mileage, 2020 Ridgeline Touring.
Rides like a car, easy to get into, able to carry a load or tow a small trailer.
Fits the want and needs without going bananas on full size pickup.
Thanks guys for the great review here! Helped to make my decision.

I like every argument you made for it. My needs for this truck fit all of them except one - long distance towing. For the same price I can get the Colorado with the Duramax which will meet my long distance towing needs - saving me money during my towing - thus helping me pay for the truck. I know I will not have that comfy ride but I have to look at the end game when I want to do a 6000km trip towing a 4600lb trailer every year. Otherwise the HR would be prefect 90% of the time.

Excellent review. I missed watching this one until today but better late than never! I like the innovation and reliability of the RTL and might consider buying one if Honda would warranty their paint for 10 years or more as I tend to keep my cars for over 10 years and Hondas have had serious paint peeling off issues.
I own a white 2008 Odyssey van that paint started peeling off in chunks 6 years after I bought it new (it was always garaged and always waxed) and after I complained for several months the local dealership and Honda corporate offered to pay $600 to fix the paint. WTH? They said white vans weren't covered by the peeling paint problem they covered other colors for free. Again WTH?
I knew it would cost $10k or more to repaint the entire van as that's really what was needed so I said no thanks and told them ill probably never buy another Honda again.
Bummer Honda didn't do the right thing as there's many vans, pilots and Ridgeline with peeling paint.
Also they lost a lifelong Honda customer (I've owned 4 hondas) not to mention all the people I told. Google Honda peeling paint and you will see a bunch of posts.
Hopefully they've fixed their paint issues but until they put a 10 year paint warranty as standard I won't ever consider buying another Honda. :(

I bought a 2020 RTL-E for a Christmas present trading in my Infiniti QX-70 and my Nissan Titan. I feel I made the right move, something comfortable, durable, and fuel effieicnt. My QX-70 was quick and sporty, my Titan had a drinking problem (gas stations) and my Ridgeline is thriftier and rides better than both. My Ridgeline has room for passengers than my QX-70 and the tonneau cover is locked when the tail gate is up. I don't tow much (1100 LB mowers a 4 wheeler and golf cart, obviously not at the same time). It was a pragmatic decision, the z convertible maybe not so much. It fits my needs, no more, no less. I don't like the fact that you have to deactivate the auto start/stop button every time I get in, but I would make the same decision on the purchase.

To me, it's interesting how people define what a pickup truck is. For me, anything with a pickup bed is a truck. Its just a matter of whether it's a good, well rounded and engineered truck. That's it. As an owner of a 2020 Ridgeline, I can tell you it is very much a truck, especially for people who need a truck but not a mountain climbing, tow monster. A split in the body looks nice but not needed to define a truck.

  • @mikegirard4388

It’s styling is simply a cost savings. This way they save a few hundred by sharing more sheet metal with Pilot. Without it, it’s probably not cost effective to produce at the quantity they project to sell. Honda sells this mainly to keep households in this dealerships that own a small truck and an CRV, Civic, or Accord, not to make money.

Six-speed transmission vs. the ZF-9-speed transmission: Who cares, you ask? Those of us who deliberately chose to buy a 2019 with the 6-speed tranny. You need to compare the repair/replacement history of the two transmissions. Yes, the 9-speed gets slightly better mileage, but that's its only advantage. Also, it "hunts" in traffic. Now, had Honda chosen to add it's in-house built 10-speed tranny, then the 2020 would be a better truck than the 2019s. But they didn't. So, if you're gonna get stuck with the 9-spd truck, you may as well buy a 2021 for it's appearance upgrades.

    • @rl6210
      @rl6210 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hmm I was going to choose the 9 speed over 6 because I live on mountain and need 3rd gear to hold speed - the paddle shifter allows this. The 6 ( I think) allows you to only select 4th or 2nd gear going down hill-big gap in speed.

The conclusion always is, that since most truck buyers only use their truck occasionally for towing or off road, the Ridgeline is the best choice since it behaves so well on pavement as a commuter vehicle. So, if we weld a 3 foot box on the back of a Prius, it would become the best pickup ever built. Got it.

the ridgeline doesn't share the same running gear as the pilot, if you are going to give info, then give the proper info.

im in my late 20s (getting p close to 30)
and i and lots of my friends always loved the gen1 ridgeline
one of my friends even bought 1 as his first car when he started working
i think a lot of millennials and younger appreciate the utility/efficiency of the ridgeline (but prolly only those of us who r aware of the ridgeline and the diff btwn unibody and bof etc)

I would rather have the Tesla truck but I can’t afford it I mean two motor it’s above my pay grade. Monthly payment would have me selling blood 🩸 and sperm every week.

You guys are bonkers if you think the first gen looks - in any way - good. It's horrendous.
