    I normally don't comment but thank you! Had car for nearly 4 years no issues, then it told me to top coolant. Topped up and a week later light came back on. Had the same spot where coolant dropped on the tray. Check your video, saw the position of the 2 pipes and found a hairline crack that's making it leak!
    Ordering now and replacing it myself see how it goes thanks again!!

      Thanks I got the part but the long screw where u lock in the two pipes, doesn't seem to fit? Doesn't slide in (3:36 area)

      @@Jay-c8w4z are you using the same screw you removed? I guess you're referring to the gap where the lug from the new cooling pipe is sandwiched between the metal?

      Sorry all working now! Just read my typo, actually not the screw. It was the tube + washer that fits the gap. I actually loosened the other bolts on the bracket, and used a tool to wedge the opening wider to fit the new coolant hoses in. Then tightened it all up. Thank you!

    How did you remove the clamps on the power steering line

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's been a while since I worked on this car. I don't recall having to remove the power steering lines. Should be able to replace the coolant pipe without removing power steering lines.

      @@DrivingIntelligence my apologies I was referring to the two clips that holding the power steeering hoses to the coolant pipe

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry for late reply, your question is catching me for a loop. I did not remove the power steering lines. If you're referring to the two clips I show at the beginning of the video, I simply used needle nose plyers or a curved pick to pull the clips.

    Had a section of this pipe break off while trying to undo the snap fitting between the top and bottom pipes. Ironically, I was trying to undo said fitting to prevent a pipe breaking if I put too much pressure on the top pipe / pushing the bottom pipe onto something that could cause a fracture or split.
    Just the section that this fitting was attached to on the bottom pipe from broke off, but it started gurgling coolant. have it sealed up with gasket maker now, just waiting on the replacement and new coolant to arrive. gonna go ahead and do a flush while I'm there.
    Also had the Air Intake Hose rip (why they made it out of fabric I will never understand), and the Timing Chain Guide slide rails snapped (why do we use plastic in the engine?).
    All this while trying to do a simple VCG change. should have been quick and easy, but now it's looking to be a week long process waiting for this stuff to arrive.

      sorry for all that! This is why I buy American vehicles, not because I have anything against foreign cars and trucks, rather, I know how to work on American vehicles and they generally seem to be less complicated. I had a BMW Mini in my garage a few years ago and could not believe the utter complexity and over engineering in that car.

      @@DrivingIntelligenceshould have seen me when I was looking for the battery the first time I popped the hood. A solid 30 minutes of me questioning my sanity.
      I've done some professional auto work as a plain lube tech, and I've done some work on my old 01 Camry (re-did the whole EGR system, whole exhaust, head gasket, valve cover gasket, radiator swap, transmission fluid and filter change- the works),so it's not like I've never had to poke around under a hood. Nothing about the Merc is that much harder, it's just... Different. A lot of bolts, a lot of beauty covers, and a shameful amount of plastic.
      After this car, I think I'm going back to a Toyota. Maybe a Ford a good one happens to be available at the time I start looking. As long as it doesn't have drum breaks, I'll be happy.

      @@in_haunt amen... my '02 F150 has been great, in fact I have two '02 F150's and they run strong. I've cut my teeth on a lot of first time projects with this truck including a transmission rebuild, timing chains, and on and on... and these trucks are seriously reliable. I have very little confidence in new vehicles. The constant quality issues I hear about with new vehicles tells me to stick with the old stuff.

    The only thing I'm missing is the hose clamp you replaced the clamp that you cut off. What size is it and do you have a link for that?

      Hi, thanks for reaching out. I believe 1" hose clamps should work. These are high quality: 1 Inch 304 Stainless Steel T-Bolt Hose Clamps: amzn.to/3SZoGuH

    I have had a coolant leak with no evident sign of leak under the engine cover. One of the mechanic is suggesting to replace water pump he seems sure about that.

      I would think a bad water pump will leak fluid on the ground. Do you see anything under your car?
