5:06 This point sums up what I agree with. Pve games are meant to be fun first and while different people have different ways to have fun, feeling powerful in a game is just fun
If you ask me i think that what killed dauntless is also whats hurting games like destiny right now, the developers not understanding how to divide the endgame gameplay with the casual gameplay. I honestly think for the devs to add stuff thats challenging to dauntless is perfectly okay, but you need to know how to divide that up in a way that doesn't shove competition/challenge down the players throat.
I think a lot of people my self included, tried monster hunter world as their first hunter game since it was finally on modern hardware with a big budget title and bounced off that game toward the end game. I picked up rise and didn’t even finish it and I’d be willing to bet the broader casual audience that played world probably won’t even get the next Monster Hunter game. I had like 6 friends that bought that game that either returned it or didn’t finish even the low rank campaign.
@@gizmo2445 I agree, however MHW is hard, that's how it is, dauntless is much easier because it should be, MH is and always has been hard, I'd you aren't up for that then you're in the wrong genre.
@@gizmo2445 it's not as bad as you think, at least if you have a friend to play with, sure some things are annoying, but that's where the game becomes fun imo. Dropping it right after doing high rank is kinda boring.
As a OLD Dauntless ( was apart of the Open Beta Launch ) player who played Axe and Hammer ( mostly Hammer ), for me it felt like weird when the game when Open world with monsters spwans, I was stuck on riftstalker cause of the speed of the behemoth and well other hunters getting downed over and over, It was a wall for me but now, everything feels ethier too easy or too " Spongie " and well there really isn't a middle ground anymore, I can't even get to trials runs in Dauntless cause of I have to hunt a certain very rare part from a behemoth and its ones of its hardest parts to drop
@@HammboneBob Dude this is years and YEARS ago, I can't remember the last time I played or even the playstyles anymore, It be me like starting all over, thank you for the offer but yeah I already have Sunbreak to worrie about and my love for CB weapon on that game series soo lol I believe it was a Umbral monster I just can't remember what and what part lol I suffer STML anyway ( Short Term Memory Loss )
Ahh yea, I rember being terrified of fighting riftstalker and radiant beetle. Back when they were the pinnacle of hunting along with the Scorch stone hellion
Dauntless was a game that my best friend and I would play a couple nights a week. We would help each other farm mats, make gear, then try to go crazy-mode in escalations. It was fun when one of us got a nasty combo of perks and that made it so we'd want to go back in over and over to try and top the last run. After the escalation nerfs, it was simply less fun to play, and we stopped playing.
I completely agree I play on Nintendo because that’s basically my childhood so why not be biased 😂 But aside from that I’ve only been playing for 100 hours and doing the same thing over and over again.. it takes so much timeeee to get to where these people are dealing like 16k damage The biggest I can do is like 3k💀 I believe it’s the trials and how much time consuming this game is
Most Devs in general (aside from a few exceptions) need to realize that there are other players other than competitive players. Most free to players are casuals that just want to play for fun none of them are going to spend their hours of free time on a mind numbing mode like Trials that just keep piling on difficulty and adds to the stress they're trying to get rid of in the first place
this is exactly the reason i quit playing it was fun for a couple of months and my interest for it slowly dies down…and now i just use my pc for movies which honestly made me even more relaxed then hunting behemoth lol
This nailed it on the head. It was reforged that did it, that was the breaking point. They completely scattered the two groups you discuss: the die-hards and the casuals. Now there's certainly a group similarly minded group to you, but it's not nearly as large as either the general player base or the trials only players. Reforged introduced forced public hunting grounds and completely reworked the power scaling. Making all the public game modes a shitstorm while making trials nigh-impossible for any non-competitive player. Their only chance is to make everyone powerful again and make getting new gear and new perks meaningful because it could be the next "op" setup. However that will likely never happen.
i remember when reforge came out and i kept on talking about how shit of an idea/system this is in the dauntless discord and all these trials nerds would talk shit on me but now they realise how shit of a system reforge is. Reforge itself was a pain in the ass when you go into islands with 5 other players with level 1 gnasher gear, what a great fuckin idea
@@avaritia6766 it was so depressing to log into the game after school just to see that update come out. At that point I wasn’t the best but I was good. The reforging was such a pain in my ass that it was just boring. Dropped it and came back after a year and man.. dead lobbies, harder monsters all for shit drops seeing all that work go to waste just killed the game completely for me. Just wasn’t fun
@@Chris-vh8dv This was my same experience tbh. Like I've had games in rotations for when I would get sick of other games. In 2020, I was hard into Dauntless because Friday the 13th just sucked my last bit of passion with that Jason rage stun thing, and Paladins had the worst metas in 2020. So I was super annoyed with those games, and found relief in Dauntless. It was just simple fun. I could play based on my mood. If I just wanted to play for like 5 minutes, I'd simply go on a heroic hunt. If I had a bit more time, or wanted to play a bit more, I'd go on Escalations. If I wanted to just have fun or farm multiple gear types, I'd go escalation. If I wanted to farm specific gears for trials, I'd go on Heroic+ Patrols. Trials were fun to farm black ink and to show off your crown. Though other than that, I stuck to the casual modes. Yet that update put me off that game. I was in a depression for a bit until I got a Switch.
@@avaritia6766 I hated them on Reddit tbh. It was like they just wanted to make every mode hard, but in a trash way. Like for Thrax, they made him a lot more annoying to go against. I don't solo escalations. I either play with my friends or with randoms. I don't want to struggle even more on Thrax because I'm not a tryhard that's Godtier, nor do I want to work even HARDER to carry randoms.
After finishing the game, I did have fun, but the fun went in a downwards slope. There wasn't many things to do, and introducing more escalations to complete the game was nice. But the main problem was the weapons; there were so few. I remember revisiting the game to play the new aether strikers, which were pretty fun. I also HATED the fact that there was only 1 combo with chain blades that was viable for damage; before AND after the rework. After that, I think the main devs weren't there anymore, maybe working on another game. Now they just add filler quests and events, which isn't entertaining enough for my time to be spent on it.
4:55 separate from dauntless but, you do actually need balance in pve games, even single player ones. Example: there's a game called the last spell, a turn based they are billions basically. U got your heroes to kill the zombies with walls and active defences like ballista to help with the horde. There are penalties to having buildings destroyed, which included walls. This lead to players just building an army of ballistae and ignoring walls for the most part, which honestly would get ridiculous at the end cuz you could go do whatever you wanted with your heroes and your ballista would pick up the slack. So devs nerfed ballistae and got rid of the penalties of buildings being destroyed for walls, leading the game back to a more defensive playstyle where you now have to focus on the strategy and risks you take with your heroes rather than go semi afk with ballista
Ballance is important but fun shouldn't be removed. In DRG some overclocks are fun, some aren't. Minor increase in stats are also boring. Generation Zero has loot that only gives you 1% of an effect.
For me, the thing that made me walk away from Dauntless is the lack of social interactions. If the hub area would work more like a chat room, then for me that would have been a big reason to keep logging in. Add a reason to keep grinding like the alchemy system and maybe an in game market to sell these on and you might have something there. We see this whenever there are glitches with the crates. People goof off in the hub and grind together all night.
I used to play Dauntless a lot but after Reforge, the game just wasn’t fun anymore. It would take up to 20 hours just to get one aetherheart to upgrade one piece of gear, repeat this 4 more times for your full load out, just for the devs to nerf your powerful build so you have to restart all over again. I will never understand why they decided to nerf strong builds - when you invest so many hours into a game you should feel powerful, like nothing can stop you. Now you just feel mediocrely stronger, and the difference is negligible at times.
I like your idea of trials and feel like the game doesn't need to be balanced because the more funky and unbalanced the game is, the more fun it will be. Making the game balanced just takes away from the content creation side of the game and that's the most important part, that's just IMO tho.
Yeah I’d love to play again, if they’d add more actual content and build variety. I wanted so long for more weapons and nothing. I never wanted to play trials and barely did, just want to kill monsters and build cool armor and weapons haha
I really wish they did trails similar to what you suggested. I remember when I use to play dauntless I always viewed trails as content that didn't matter. It was boring and aside for a select few cells it offered, the game mode didn't really have any relevance. It always felt like a content island that all the sweats would congregate too.
I thought what killed the game were scrubs that liked bragging about one around a giant empty ass zone killing a copy and paste creature. Because they can't play mhw without trying and wanting to be carried. Than they tried reinventing the wheel with hunting grounds and xp. Than recycling styles behemoths and escalation like its new on Hunting grounds. This game had so much potential. But hey playing dress up and wearing bk crowns and killing bot behemoths is what peak gameplay
What really killed the game for me was, how many ways u can boop the behemonth nowaday. In the past, we all had a role...now you can do everything with any weapon.
I really like your idea for trials, it opens up many possibilities, how about having two teams face the same strong monster but the team with most damage wins? and if they manage to kill the monster before times runs out, is an instant win for the team, or simply divide them in two arenas, give a time limit of 10 min, throw weaker monsters but the same ones in the same order for each team and the team with most kills wins, it really sucks when they add modifiers that are more annoying rather than a challenge
the thing is, tryhard to casual ratio is like 1:4 or 1:5, but tryhards play x5 more than casuals a day. So most matches wouldn't have a 75% chance to encounter another casual team, it would be close to 50-50 because casuals play a few matches and leave, while tryhards play the entire day. So there's fewer tryhards but they paly more, which "balance" the ratio. Now where's the fun for the casuals in that? You have a 50% chance to instantly lose simply because you have a life and a job outside the game. This would need a rank system, which is very hard to make and balance. But then another problem arises, tryhards (the high ranks) would only play against other tryhards, and they'd have to wait longer queues for the trials. Look at LoL challenger streamers, they wait 30-60 minutes for just a 30 minutes match sometimes. So tryhards would never be satisfied
Also the prestige system sucks balls, as someone who played since the very begining and only reset once (for the story update that one time before Ramsgate getting exploded) I maxxed out all my gear and now I have to grind it all up again???? It was/is a stupid system to me.
I'm not kidding when I say that the only time I even played dauntless is when Russianbadger played it and after he stop making dauntless videos, so did Dauntless's popularity suddenly diminish, I mean there are some Dauntless TH-camrs that could've keep the new player base entertained but alas....there was nothing saving it....
Whats killing the game more is the fact that they have yet to provide any new content, talked about how they were going to look into valomir and change whatever but have yet to provide any info on that or show anything about that, and constantly listening and catering to trials when the game isnt all that competitive. I've been playing forever since early access, throughout the beta, to console release, the multitude of fun stuff they nerfed is just... well killing the game. The lack of content in general makes people not want to play the game, and hell I cant even bring myself to play the game to even an hour and a half. So much crap has happened to the game that its now unfun for me. Bring back patrol hunts, bring back the ardeint cyclone(spelled wrong most likely) meter regen when hitting a behemoth, BRING BACK OLD CHAIN BLADES!! The "veterans" are just a bunch of sweats that have nothing to do in their lives other than just sit on trials and avoid anything fun too and decide to nerf fun, make it competitive and unfun. Trials is crap and will always be crap. Oh cool im on a board but its short lived and oh look trial armor and crowns. YIPPIE.. the game is dying because DEVS do not care for the game anymore nor anyone TRYING to help them. As you said, these are the reasons why the game is failing and i'm 100% agreeing with every word because I cant enjoy the game that I use to love and look forward playing. I looked forward on making a build that has the potential, along with certain amps in escas, to oneshot behemoths. Cant do that no more, cant become OP like we use to, and decide to ruin the game to favor trials.
The crazy part about Virulent Impact is you have less chance of getting it in shock escalation, bc its legendary, in terra escalation the rarity isnt legendary, its rare therefore you get it more in an escalation that its not from rather than the original
I enjoyed playing "Dauntless" but eventually lost interest in the game. I think it would be cool to have more exciting dungeons, like in Diablo 3 where they are completely random or as you mentioned, ones that can be played against friends with the same map and see who can complete it faster. For me, Dauntless has always been a fun game, and I was never particularly good at it because I'm not a tryhard :)
loved the game when it was about monster hunting... now the monster hunting is an absolute afterthought and its all about time trials. like what the fuck. i just want to run around a map looking for 1 monster and kill it than go into an arena and kill a monster as fast as i can... that isnt fun.
I started playing dauntless in 2020 after my friend told me to. I became a chainblades main. 2021 came in and that rework on chainblades killed me. I have played with warpike and the dual gun alongside with CB, but man, that rework made me deleted the game. I assume that cb rework wasnt reversed today. now looking at this is like looking at my ex who have changed for the worse.
What killed dauntless was them never dropping the bow. Trials was dope for the head crown after that is booty. Was crazy once the trials nerds opinions was being more focal. All the trials stuff was exclusive to trials was in the other game modes and did absolutely nothing to affect game play change I love dauntless cause during early access the game felt like monster Hunter & fortnite had a baby. The cosmetics back in the day was elite. Umbral escalation was epic.
The devs for Dauntless just need to make a Dauntless 2 or maybe do a whole remake of Dauntless because the game was fun at first it just needs a bit more reworking in several areas in my opinion but none the less Dauntless is overall was a good game
remember when that laser lance got a nerf. man those day were so fun. I left Dauntless for D2, i needed more MMO RPG and i got it, didnt care much about melee weapons, didnt even try any other monster hunter game only Dauntless. Really Loved Dauntless, was a pike main switched to hammer, hammer Decimated ALL i really Learned the hammer Perfectly such Fun Days those were.
so my buddy and I just got into the game barely even have 100 hours and as an axe main I look back at some of the builds where one shotting was possible... i really loved playing but i wanna one shot and feel powerful!!!
Coming from a trials competitor, i can definitely see your pov on this. Dauntless is not fun in its current state and just got worse and worse over time, and now the meta has been murdered in cold blood by impulse. One place where i will have to disagree with you is (at least in some cases) where you said that trials players influenced the devs enough to nerf things in escalation. You also say "how does it effect our trial times" which is honestly a weird thing to state considering the fact that almost every trials player does escalations and side hunts to get a break FROM trials. The are some cocky trials players who try to make the game just less enjoyable by saying devs need to throw nerf after nerf into the fun stuff and theres no denying that. I agree with most of the things you said, i think your just generalizing the whole "trials players ruin the game" thing too much. Honestly the community is very friendly and non-judging of broken things at this point, so if theres one thing to summarize this all up, its that were not all monsters mate, were not all monsters. Mainly because we hunt them :)
I just came back after years. Some of my weapons are power level 20, 60, 80. I wanted to upgrade some partially, but as far as I've found, you can only MAX upgrade things. Which requires a stupid "prestige" system from call of duty. Um, someone tell me I'm wrong. Tell me I'm not going to drop this game again because they think I' going to kill 40 behemoths every time I want to try a new armor or weapon with level 3 cell stats on it 😅
I left when the game was no longer about hunting monsters and grinding gear aka when they removed hunts, hunts were the bread and butter of the game and then they made it so you just go into a map that spawns a ton of monsters and grind away, no more chasing down a behemoth as it runs for dear life, it was the soul of the game but they traded that for basically a mobilized version of gameplay
It just kills me because dauntless should have been a slam dunk Granite don't like that are free-to-play. I enjoyed it for the time being that I played it for. Just didn't like the sword rework kind of pissed me off. I like the new idle animation when you held the sword better than the previous one.
Fae Farm (Phoenix Labs' latest project) just released a week or so ago (at time of writing). We've probably got a couple weeks of bug-fixing and patching being the focus of the entire studio before they probably split 50/50 internally on focusing between FF and Dauntless. So if this overhaul is as big as they're saying it'll be, getting started now is perfect. Plus they have video of weapon swap stuff on the website, so even if its BEYOND early access, its still at the very least possible.
This is the same issue of games that try to focus on esports/competitive killing the game as a whole because most players don't care or don't compete at that level.
Dauntless was so much fun in the OG days I did miss the Ragnars Folly event and that was the event I wanted to finish the most😢 But anyways I still play nowadays because yeah it’s sorta dumb but I still persist the boredom so I can get all the good stuff so when the game is revived I’ll be helping the new people Also is there some way I can get Ragnars armor today? Because I really wanted that set
• Dauntless PAST: I farm the parts and do patrols and gradually become stronger until I am the ultimate slayer = (I destroy behemoths in 1 min, they don't do damage to me cause I've becone OP = FUN = ONLY IF I want to challenge myself, I go on Trials mode) VS Dountless NOW: I farm EXP for my weapons but when I hit cap and become strong, have to reforge and redo it all again (I become frustrated = NO FUN AT ALL = LONG AND BORING = I do no damage but behemoths ONESHOT me = NO NEED to do Trails cause game already super hard) #PLAEASE REVERSE THE FROGE
What truly killed the game is the fact that it's plain LAME, it's an incredibly boring MH clone with a very generic artstyle, boring music, boring settings, boring everything. Games like Monster Hunter have a lasting appeal that goes beyond just combat and crafting meta builds, it has a living breathing world with its own ecology, unique monsters, charming humor, CATS & DOGS as companions, and sooo much more.
I remember having so much fun during the beta and then instantly moving on once my friends started playing another new release. I completely forgot about the game and didn’t see anything online about it since beta.
I logged into this game for the first time since maybe 2021 today and so much changed. There are gauntlets now and there is a training mode. Plus, the hub world looks different. Can someone fill me in on everything that changed from then?
As an older dauntless player who was semi-addicted at one point... what killed my interest in the game was the major update that turned the main hunts to semi-open world levels with multiple monster spawns. It turned the hunting from feeling like an actual "go out and hunt big bad" to a moreso bland experience of "oh eempty exploration with some oversized enemies".
Dauntless has to me always been more of an arcade monster fighting game. It was fun getting stupid builds or mechanics to destroy a behemoths hp quickly or in a dumb way like virulent. But there trying to be some competitive but simpler monster hunter like why. If i wanted to be more competitive fighting monsters id play monster hunter. Im playing dauntless to smack big monster and see big damage number
As someone who only recently started playing dauntless with the only goal of slaying the heroic escalation chronovore solo, I am very sad to know that a game with such potential was dropped by the devs after a little while. Whether it be sweaty trials players or a lack of new content, dauntless’s downfall was almost depressing.
Dauntless can't recover anymore. I envisioned dauntless to be crazy with their cells and feel very OP, to bad we get nerfs instead. Monster hunter rise is the most beginner friendly/ accessible in the series. Trials in dauntless. You can get "special investigation" and hazard quest for challenge. The maybe early 2024 we can get new monster hunter game.
DUDE THE TRIALS IDEA IS SO GOOD, having two teams battle is so fun. and much more better, i can see a ton people watching two teams fight. AND TALK ABOUT THE E-SPROTS OF IT. lowkey shit out of an anime. fucking love that idea so much already.
I used to like you but i simply think that your opinion about trials is wrong running escas is always the same and gets boring over time and it makes no sence to run if you already crafted everything so trials is the only game mode you can spent your time in
agree. escas is boring in end game. but u can play with meme build or clickbait build (the reason for his money). but competitive is improved. gauntlet mode allows make more strategis, and guild system created more iterations between players. that is it. so ohdough, if u not like this, change the game. but don't shovel shit about the game that made you money
I stopped playing this back in beta, but Dauntless is the reason why I could get into MHW. When I tried MHW demo, I hated the control system with controller, but when I tried Dauntless, I realized that I simply liked playing with KB+M more for this gameplay style, and really enjoyed Dauntless a lot at the time. I left not long before they made it a sort of open world thing. Anyway, it's sad to hear the game has changed a lot. I really enjoyed the gun hammer and stunning monsters out of dashes.
I stopped playing shortly after trials came out. me and many players were looking for NEW HUNTS new weapons and more story. I spent money on the game, made Many friends, and waited years. But we didnt get much. I loved this game, and it will forever hold its place in my memory as one of my favourite games I have ever played amongst hundreds of others. Enjoyed it while it lasted, :)
A game becoming easy ruins the fun entirely. I like the high octane, be ready at every moment, don't slip up formats. I love engaging my brain to that degree. I hate when games get watered down for players who don't want to spend the time to get good, or who play games so they don't have to think. Skill ceiling should be absolutly unlimited. Skill floors should not be set so low that anyone can come in and just beat half the game.
I picked up dauntless last year with my fiance so i don't have the nostalgia that most people seem to have for "old dauntless" I definitely think one shottimg something is boring if its happening constantly. Easy wins just arent fun when they happen too often as well as wanting it to be extremely easy just to feel powerful is definitely ego. Balance is definitely important and people are not selfish for wanting a challenge, to build up their skills and learn. It is not boring, mostly enraging. For me, fighting something the same level as you is is frustratingly difficult. Even the too easy monsters can down you if youre by yourself or with another person. Getting aetherhearts is extremely grindy, and sometimes youre stuck behind the path or 𝕨𝕙𝕒𝕥𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕣. Its absolutely crazy
I just started playing the game again and honestly it's fun I was never a big player not competitive I only got to valmyur before I got bored the first time then I came back and found the reforge system to be fun and the hunting grounds being just a small open world where monsters spawn is fun because I don't gotta search for them and then others can join me to kill monsters and do events (like the bloodshroud where I got to with axes before I reforged)
That's what happens when you prioritize generally balancing the game around the .5% over the more casual players. I'd say the bulk of the playerbase that is active generally doesn't even care about trials mode - including me. The super casuals don't care at all about trials. Dauntless to 99.9% of players is not about competing with other players. It's about interacting with the combat, gliding around with your friends / children (I played with my son and friends), crafting, and competing with yourself if anything by theory crafting fun and broken builds and items. The respawning hunt islands and gliding were incredible improvements to the game. Escalations and cross platform were also incredible additions but it often feels unimpactful when I place points into amp specs and grabbing amps in escalations. But I remember when that silver sword was released, the community showed up for it, and a bunch of the ultra try hards who are by far a minority about had a conniption and wanted it taken away from everyone who was excited about it and even those who had done all the grinding during the Christmas break to get. So stupid. That's just what happens when a team loses touch with its playerbase and doesn't understand why people play their game.
HI ohdough, are you excited for the next big update that is coming up soon. It revamps a lot of the core gameplay. Even ramsgate changes I think. I don't play anymore but it looks promising so I'll try it out. Hope you do too.
Can anyone give me context on the nature of the nerfs? As somebody who's experience with MMOs and the sort has been "Oh boy, I can't wait to play some casual but not comically easy content!", I would understand why broken builds, weapons, and/or classes need to be brought down so the fight isn't a faceroll.
Chain blades rework was my reason too, i used to play the game non stop even when epic IS BANNED IN IRAN and i had to buy vpn but now it's dead but if the game comes to steam that would save the game
I agree 😢 I used to just have fun playing with friends now I get yelled at for not perfecting or being on their level. I mean yeah I reforged a bunch of times but I still don't know what I'm doing half the time. Plus it's annoying when they rush into everything
Changing the way crafting, leveling armor and weapons was stupid. Hunts didn’t feel like hunts anymore, weapon changes were stupid, cell changes were stupid. It was a very fun 300 hours teaching all my buddies how to play and carrying people. But all good things come to an end, grinding escalations back in the day we’re so fun, tryna get max level to get the layered armor set, so beautiful yet they destroyed the game. Wish they just kept the old system just added new monsters and weapons woulda blew the game up more imo
I try and try to play this game still. Ive spent hundreds if not a thousand real life cash on this & its sad where this game went. Behemoths shouldn't take as long as they do, cells have been changed, the only players are ones with your intro armor..
They took away everyones progress and reseted it back to beginner tutorials this new update. Took most of what people had earned and crafted and placed it behind a paywall. CAN'T EVEN CRAFT NOR FORGE WEAPONS AND ARMORS NO MORE, and remove a whole species of monsters from the game. What a tragic and greedy way to go out.
Yeah I don't understand the playerbase and the devs here. I played from the early alpha tests up until the open world stuff was added. The devs lost touch with what made the game fun even before that point. I played MH and other hunting games for their competitiveness and dauntless for fun but man did the devs actively made the game painfully unfun. That and for the longest time the only real form of progression was the battlepass garbage, just killed interest for me. They would have to roll the game back to an earlier version because man this game just sucks.
What killed my enjoyment of dauntless was that every new behemoth required a million different challenges to face and it wasnt fun anymore after every new behemoth becoming like that, i realistically think they should have let hunt mode be an actual hunt, meaning larger maps and actually have to locate clues to find the nest or something, alongside the hunt we have now which is loads of behemoths just spawning out of nowhere and you can fight wherever. (Kinda kills the grind but it means people can get stuff quicker so its a player friendly change). Frost escalation also bored me because of the frostbite mechanic, i hated it, meant i had to spend most of the game huddled round a campfire and wait for the urska to come to me which annoyingly never happened for long enough.
The progression is what killed this game, the reforging system and hunting ground levels made farming feel more difficult and less rewarding. The progression was less linear and you were actively punished for experimenting with new weapons and builds thanks to the whole power surge and reforge system. Making builds was difficult and felt way less satisfying and I didn't feel the need to develope my play style and equipment more because they removed linear progression, stories, and single behemoth hunts.
This right here is something I have been saying for a while. I amhave been saying this with Destiny 2 as well. So many people asking for nerfs in PvP, but then Bungie does a nerf to PvE as well. The game has become so competitive even in PvE that some people using LFG are kicking their team before anyone can get loot just so only they can have it. Honestly competition is what starts ruining a game which is why a lot of PvE only with no leaderboards being a focus live far longer.
The last time I played was shortly after trials came out, decided to try and hop in today, and man, idk what changed, but escalation is waaay less fun than I remember. Also the new skill tree stuff with the hunting grounds and everything has my head spinning
i was 14 playing Dauntless and LOVED IT, but then the nerfs came and im like WHY? I dont see the poitn of being the fastest in trial and yet the reward that trial gives is something that is NEEDED to progress in the game and get gear. they just made the game "balanced" for tryhards vets and super hard for new players like me
It would be fun to make the Trial like the Arena in Rome, with two teams competing at the same time and the audience betting on them. The waiting time, matching and rewards would need to be worked out, though.
One point in this video is to add more not competitive content to the game that would appeal to not competitive player, this idea directly contradicts that
I don't realy get how trails competitive players have realy affected the game that much, phx labs just did lots of wrong decisions wich affected the most of the player base. Trails have changed (maybe because there were quite a fiew concerns) but that didn't realy affected the rest if the game. To say that its the fault of one particular groub of player base is absolutely wrong... I think the fact that they haven't heard enough about concerns from the whole community/player base is the biggest reason why dauntless is dying. They just didn't give a fuck about the player's and what they wanted and what was fun
Btw having like 8k hours in the game (waste of time) i have also played quite a bit in trails competitive but i just don't see how players like me could ever have an affect on the game...
Another thing that is killing this game is the lack of ambition from developers. I have been playing this game for a year now and the reason Im quitting is due to the pathetic roadmap with nothing to look forward to.
I honestly think for the devs to add stuff thats challenging to dauntless is perfectly okay, but you need to know how to divide that up in a way that doesn't shove competition/challenge down the players throat.
they need to understand what fun means.. i've never understood why they nerfed shit in a non comp game
@@jakubbercik6965 I beat Monster Hunter for the record at least up till what came after high rank, I just didn’t want to grind my life away
@@gizmo2445 it's not as bad as you think, at least if you have a friend to play with, sure some things are annoying, but that's where the game becomes fun imo. Dropping it right after doing high rank is kinda boring.
Trials is the most boring thing to come out of Dauntless. I got my crowns, cells and Twin Suns and never looked back.
Add me Ayway420 I'll help you get whatever
What part I'll help you get it
@@HammboneBob Dude this is years and YEARS ago, I can't remember the last time I played or even the playstyles anymore, It be me like starting all over, thank you for the offer but yeah I already have Sunbreak to worrie about and my love for CB weapon on that game series soo lol I believe it was a Umbral monster I just can't remember what and what part lol I suffer STML anyway ( Short Term Memory Loss )
I completely agree
I play on Nintendo because that’s basically my childhood so why not be biased 😂
But aside from that I’ve only been playing for 100 hours and doing the same thing over and over again.. it takes so much timeeee to get to where these people are dealing like 16k damage
The biggest I can do is like 3k💀 I believe it’s the trials and how much time consuming this game is
@@SydneyssimmonsI've seen players with like 112 reforges, on their weapon, how
If taken too seriously, this game has nothing to compare to Monster Hunter. The most irreplaceable qualities of Dauntless are its ease and comfort.
dauntless's combat is faster paced making it more of a monster fighting game than a monster hunting game.
@@OhDough nah. monster hunter IS a monster fighting game. And it does combat far more better than dauntless.
If you quit a f2p game after couple of months i would say thats actually a game's success @@MOONVES-xy2rr
Literally when the free roam mode came in that's when the game died for me. Why couldn't we have both modes instead of Trials?
hunting grounds and reforge ruined ruined it for me
After finishing the game, I did have fun, but the fun went in a downwards slope.
They didn't even add lore tabs to the segments in some of the rumour quests, it felt lazy
Fun fact about Trials. The idea came from a random guy on reddit. They made it in about 4 months after that post happened.
Then casuals will get stomped by the tryhard
Vine pod modifier is the bane of my existence
the thing is, tryhard to casual ratio is like 1:4 or 1:5, but tryhards play x5 more than casuals a day.
I think the balance changes should've just effected trials. Let that be sweaty and competitive and let the rest be casual.
Also the prestige system sucks balls, as someone who played since the very begining and only reset once (for the story update that one time before Ramsgate getting exploded) I maxxed out all my gear and now I have to grind it all up again???? It was/is a stupid system to me.
I'm not kidding when I say that the only time I even played dauntless is when Russianbadger played it and after he stop making dauntless videos, so did Dauntless's popularity suddenly diminish, I mean there are some Dauntless TH-camrs that could've keep the new player base entertained but alas....there was nothing saving it....
chain blades rework destroyed the game imo, all my friends quit the game.
Cant do that no more, cant become OP like we use to, and decide to ruin the game to favor trials.
welcome to another episode of "e-sports mentality ruining casual/arcade games"
The crazy part about Virulent Impact is you have less chance of getting it in shock escalation, bc its legendary, in terra escalation the rarity isnt legendary, its rare therefore you get it more in an escalation that its not from rather than the original
your version of trials is what Monster hunter 1 versus did.
DAUNTLESS TRIALS PLAYERS ARE THE BIGGEST MUFFETS LMAO THE TRUTH GOT REVELEAD
We were teased for fishing. There is no fishing in dauntless, and there never will be 😔
loved the game when it was about monster hunting... now the monster hunting is an absolute afterthought and its all about time trials. like what the fuck. i just want to run around a map looking for 1 monster and kill it than go into an arena and kill a monster as fast as i can... that isnt fun.
I started playing dauntless in 2020 after my friend told me to. I became a chainblades main.
2021 came in and that rework on chainblades killed me. I have played with warpike and the dual gun alongside with CB, but man, that rework made me deleted the game.
I assume that cb rework wasnt reversed today. now looking at this is like looking at my ex who have changed for the worse.
the worst thing u can do is main especialy in dauntless just use whatever u want its way more fun that way
early 2021 was the end for me
What killed dauntless was them never dropping the bow.
Trials was dope for the head crown after that is booty.
Was crazy once the trials nerds opinions was being more focal.
All the trials stuff was exclusive to trials was in the other game modes and did absolutely nothing to affect game play change
I love dauntless cause during early access the game felt like monster Hunter & fortnite had a baby.
Dang, and I just got into it a couple days ago. Having fun, plan to keep going at least
I just want the update to come out. Hopefully more players join in when that happens too. But I'll enjoy the game regardless.
remember when that laser lance got a nerf. man those day were so fun.
I remember playing this game back when it was starting up. It was fun.
Moved away from the game when they migrated exclusively to Epic.
gonna be honest, when Dauntless pulled itself from steam it was all down hill from there.
That team v team boss fight woulda been top tier choice for sure
I agree but how did you do that to hint with repeaters (dodging and spinning)
twin suns, the exotic version of repeaters
Dauntless was so much fun in the OG days I did miss the Ragnars Folly event and that was the event I wanted to finish the most😢
But anyways I still play nowadays because yeah it’s sorta dumb but I still persist the boredom so I can get all the good stuff so when the game is revived I’ll be helping the new people
Also is there some way I can get Ragnars armor today? Because I really wanted that set
• Dauntless PAST: I farm the parts and do patrols and gradually become stronger until I am the ultimate slayer = (I destroy behemoths in 1 min, they don't do damage to me cause I've becone OP = FUN = ONLY IF I want to challenge myself, I go on Trials mode)
VS
Dountless NOW: I farm EXP for my weapons but when I hit cap and become strong, have to reforge and redo it all again (I become frustrated = NO FUN AT ALL = LONG AND BORING = I do no damage but behemoths ONESHOT me = NO NEED to do Trails cause game already super hard)
#PLAEASE REVERSE THE FROGE
One shotting things isn't always fun
What truly killed the game is the fact that it's plain LAME, it's an incredibly boring MH clone with a very generic artstyle, boring music, boring settings, boring everything. Games like Monster Hunter have a lasting appeal that goes beyond just combat and crafting meta builds, it has a living breathing world with its own ecology, unique monsters, charming humor, CATS & DOGS as companions, and sooo much more.
dauntless and monster hunter play entirely different. there's no need to meat ride a video game bud.
quickest way to kill a fun PvE game... add a competitive/pvp mode.
Good video, enjoyed watching it. What is the game you were showing at the end of your video though? It looks fun to me haha
Completely off topic but what is that game at 5:50? Looks interesting.
xdefiant, new fps that's being developed atm. that footage was from a pseudo closed beta.
@@OhDough Thx! Been looking forward to a few FPS games at the moment. Looked clean. I'll keep my eye out.
As an older dauntless player who was semi-addicted at one point... what killed my interest in the game was the major update that turned the main hunts to semi-open world levels with multiple monster spawns. It turned the hunting from feeling like an actual "go out and hunt big bad" to a moreso bland experience of "oh eempty exploration with some oversized enemies".
dough whats ur opinion on the gauntlet mode i personally find it to be decently fun i just wanna hear ur views on it
Dauntless has to me always been more of an arcade monster fighting game.
I’m i the only one who hates the new crafting system. I’m a casual player and I still don’t get why I have to use aether heart to upgrade anything?
DUDE THE TRIALS IDEA IS SO GOOD, having two teams battle is so fun. and much more better, i can see a ton people watching two teams fight. AND TALK ABOUT THE E-SPROTS OF IT. lowkey shit out of an anime. fucking love that idea so much already.
I used to like you but i simply think that your opinion about trials is wrong running escas is always the same and gets boring over time and it makes no sence to run if you already crafted everything so trials is the only game mode you can spent your time in
it's not an opinion L M A O. check the views on youtube my guy. escalation is a mode you spend time in after you craft everything to...
agree. escas is boring in end game. but u can play with meme build or clickbait build (the reason for his money). but competitive is improved. gauntlet mode allows make more strategis, and guild system created more iterations between players. that is it. so ohdough, if u not like this, change the game. but don't shovel shit about the game that made you money
I just decided to return, suck seeing the state of the game but im honestly still down to play again and relearn everything
Sucks how the developers listened to the worst people in the community which had caused a bad effect on the game. God i hate trials.
Worst thing to happen to dauntless
@@OhDough True.
I picked up dauntless last year with my fiance so i don't have the nostalgia that most people seem to have for "old dauntless"
I definitely think one shottimg something is boring if its happening constantly.
Dough is the Pog Champ. Phoenix labs needs to listen to the community and creators who actually know what’s is best for the game.
I played Dauntless on release for a few months, stopped, then attempted to return last week.
I couldn't recognize the game and stopped after an hour
I’m new to the game and want to farm the highest monsters and can’t cause it’s in an escalation why tf is it not in a normal lobby’s?
Chain blades rework was my reason too, i used to play the game non stop even when epic IS BANNED IN IRAN and i had to buy vpn but now it's dead but if the game comes to steam that would save the game
How can you make so much damage😳 i barely do 200 with level 20 8 prestige (chain blades)
I could never do the fist unlocks, and its repetitive as hell.
Hey Dough I've heard rumors about a Crudge... I think its gonna be a new bohemoth. Idk though.
Well well well
i was 14 playing Dauntless and LOVED IT, but then the nerfs came and im like WHY?
I dont see the poitn of being the fastest in trial and yet the reward that trial gives is something that is NEEDED to progress in the game and get gear. they just made the game "balanced" for tryhards vets and super hard for new players like me
they need to make the trip from early game to end game incredibly smooth
It would be fun to make the Trial like the Arena in Rome, with two teams competing at the same time and the audience betting on them. The waiting time, matching and rewards would need to be worked out, though.
One point in this video is to add more not competitive content to the game that would appeal to not competitive player, this idea directly contradicts that
Nevertheless still a good idea
@@zenith8925 Non-competitive players can play on the spectator's side. The fighters get reward and prestige, and the spectators get a small reward.
Caue they implemented PVP balancing in a PVE game. Stupidest decision they could take.
For me, is the lack of monsters, they release like one monster every year or so? Boring
Btw having like 8k hours in the game (waste of time) i have also played quite a bit in trails competitive but i just don't see how players like me could ever have an affect on the game...
the hours I have in the game also made me money. it's not players like you it's players that had direct access to talk to developers.
if you have ever played dauntless you will realise that the developers themselves dont play the game
are you thinking about returning to dauntless after the revamp
yea
Another thing that is killing this game is the lack of ambition from developers. I have been playing this game for a year now and the reason Im quitting is due to the pathetic roadmap with nothing to look forward to.
