Food for thought for everybody if you don’t want a plug to snap off and break do the plugs when the engine is warm instead of cold saves you a headache been using this method for a long time as a mechanic and it works awesome
Great video brotha! Just to note, the old plugs have more of a gap because the electrode burns down over time and increases the gap. That will lead to stuttering and sight misfires if they burn down too much and the gap is too large. If the plugs don’t want to budge or are too hard to turn, spray some penetrating fluid and let it sit for a few minutes and try again, this will greatly reduce the risk of breaking plugs off. I just picked up a 2011 Raptor a few weeks ago, changing the plugs out right now and this was a great reference video. Extensions and a swivel head are your best friend for sure haha. Also just did the front/rear diff and transfer case fluid change as well as an oil change, I always do a full service whenever I purchase a new to me vehicle.
Did spark plugs on my friends 1st gen raptor today, extensions and swivel adapters are your friends, took about four hours ... Bit time consuming the first time ( 4 hours) .. The 2 Fire wall top ones are bit tricky, bottom close to the firewall just bend the splash guard, the semi pain in the ass is the one behind suspension tower .. I use 3/8th swivel adapter and a flat screwdriver to align socket ..this video was of great help guiding me..thank you
It’s a great time to change out the ignition coils/wires when doing plugs….they only last about 100K miles as well. Also a good idea to use a Shop Vac to vacuum out the crud in the spark plug holes *before* you remove the plugs so it doesn’t fall into the engine. Also a dab of anti-seize on the spark plug threads prevents seizing the next time that you replace them.
Nice to see the pan back to an e92 in the garage. I have a 335is. Just picked up my Ruby Roush a month ago and planning to knock this out. Thank you for the helpful vid 🙏🏽
The painted mark on the tip is original plugs from the factory. Antiseize for the plugs and dielectric grease for the boots are your friends for next time service...
I had a shop do mine at 108,000 miles. Look similar to yours. They handed me back my original ones and I noticed that there was 8 that were all white and 8 with the blue ring. Wasn’t sure if previous owner did only the top 8 or the shop did the top 8 and handed me another random 8. But now seeing yours, I can be confident that’s how it’s factory.
Thanks so much that info because after I filmed this I realized that half had blue and half did not. Which made me assume 8 might have been changed. It actually sounds like it’s possible they were all original after what you said. I guess regardless it’s good to have them all done now!
If you have an air compressor, blow out area of spark plug to remove dust/dirt and small rocks. Last thing you want is dirt/pebbles in your cylinder bore.
Not a bad job with a universal adapter and different length extensions. The front lower plug on the passenger side was a pain. There is little room (I have small hands) and the plug is hard to see even with a mirror because of how recessed it is. I had a hard time starting the threads during the install. The other 7 plugs are easy to get to It didn't help that my spark plug socket did not have the rubber piece inside it. I also put anti-seize in all of them, since all the old plugs came out hard
Great job! And thank you for the guide I will be doing mine soon also at 50k! 😳. I’ve had mine new since 2014 and it’s at 48k but the years is due I think 🤔. Do not want to deal with a jammed spark plug if I wait to 100k. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Again thank you for this video, great idea to just set the truck low to work on 👍🏽
I just changed the plugs in the 6.2 in my 15 F350. The top plugs were different than the bottom. Someone got lazy at some point and just changed the top plugs and left the plugs on the sides.
If you are mechanically inclined, I would do it. Just set aside part of the day to get it done. Otherwise a mechanic would probably be pretty expensive for a job like this.
In my 06 mustang gt ... I snapped 7 of the 8 plugs ... Those bitches were not my friends haha I did get the tool for removing the broken half, Lisle or something like that is the name of the tool

About to do the same as well to a 2012, any recommendations or special tools?

From the Ford OEM Service Manual:
Torque : 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)
Spark plug gap 0.042 -0.046 in ( 1.07 -1.17 mm) 😐

Nice engineering FORD! My 5.7 hemi has 16 plugs also and its easy to change them.
I will be taking this to a shop for sure
what did they charge? some places are saying like 2k
Very Helpful Vid. Getting ready to do my new to me 2011 with 94k miles. Thank you!

How much did it cost if you dont mind me asking
Great video , What’s the recommended gap on the NGK 6509 to use on the 6.2 liter Raptor

Thank you for the very well made video. I’m at 118,000 and I’m starting to do mine as we speak.
Hi, Did you put WD 40 before loosing the plugs ?

Dose not help on the 6.2 super charged
Just did mines yesterday took 10hr lol but still feel weird for some reason I dont no! If im just paranoid
the most critical tool in your tool chest. BEER

It’s definitely a pita where the strut towers are. The secondary plug placement is definitely bad. They could have done like the Ram pickups.
Hello , What’s the size of spark plug socket ?
Do you guys recommend using the anti seize for the new spark plugs going in?
no it shouldn't be necessary
Are you going to service your transmission at all?
I serviced mine. I changed the pan out with one with a drain plug. I also put an engine bay accessible transmission dip stick on as well.
Autozone 4x... 😂 ur just like me. Is it worth having a mechanic do it?
If you are mechanically inclined, I would do it. Just set aside part of the day to get it done. Otherwise a mechanic would probably be pretty expensive for a job like this.
Always check the gap. You never know if the box of plugs were dropped
I’m wondering if that slight idle issue you described is from a dirty throttle body.
that could definitely be possible.
What brand spark plug socket is that?
amzn.to/3oVylkL
I also have a similar longer socket
Would not recommend using the autozone gaping tool buy the wire spark plug gaping tool
Nice job
In my 06 mustang gt ... I snapped 7 of the 8 plugs ... Those bitches were not my friends haha I did get the tool for removing the broken half, Lisle or something like that is the name of the tool
Do you run premium or reg fuel?
87 octane
@@ShiftedPerspective doesnt the gas cap acutally say not to use that? or do you have a tune?
@@vincentalejandro3023 there is no gas cap and they can take both. The computer compensates
Ive never seen an air filter that bad.
Alot less terrifying then doing spark plugs on the 5.4
Geez louise i MIGHT just take it to the DEALER. Ford should be ASHAMED of themselves for the BOTTOM LOCATIONs🤨
Was just quoted 800 bucks from the dealer
@@salt7379 can here for the comment. I was quoted $1200 today 🙄
That’s crazy but easy than german cars
Screw thay im taking it the dealer lol
Good god NGK is for import vehicles. Motor craft only you’ll regret it.
I've swapped peoples NGKs for the factory recommend plugs hundreds of times
Why are NGK not good for 6.2? thanks
