So I’m going to answer all the problems you mentioned. I have 180k with no transmission issues at all. I’m also still on the original fox shocks too but the fronts are leaking a little, no rust I’m from Houston tx, I also have never jumped my raptor, I have never done a donut in my raptor I’m still on original power steering pump. I have never had fuse 27 blow, but always hearing about it I have always kept a couple of fuses in my truck. Cool and heat seating still work, i have sun roof I leave my truck outside in Texas heat I have had a issues and use sunroof a lot. I changed spark plugs at 100k, I’m only on my second set of breaks, third set of tires original ko2 0-60k nitro ridge grapplers 60-150 nitto ridge 150k-180k where I’m currently at now. I change Coolant at 100k, I have never changed the transmission fluid, diff fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid. I have never changed any ball joints tie rods or anything to do with suspension. Never have had a engine problem either. Now problems that I have had is ac compressor went out around the 150k. I’ve have to replace 6 out of the 8 coil packs. Ac blend door actuator twice
That’s awesome information! This is why I bought the truck, it has a great track record just like this. Thanks so much for the update and makes me feel plenty prepared to reach over 200k at this point.
I'm also in Houston, TX. However my Raptor was badly beat up before I got her. I drove her to Florida on week one. I wanted to see what she could do. Oh boy, the shocks and struts were original. So my truck is a 2011 and I got her with 164k miles and I offered the seller 17.5k. So yeah, my shocks and struts felt like I was rolling on wobbly stilts every time I went over a bump, worse if it was a pot hole, I replaced the shocks n struts right away. I purchased new ones and the old ones I will be sending in for a renew at some point. On day one when I got the truck, I went to open the sunroof ... I was told that it worked. But it got stuck all the way open. I got my truck in July so right in hurricane season. My Florida trip was 3 days away. I ended up having to cut a cardboard out, wrap it in plastic wrap and I used packing tape to try and seal it. But that tape would keep pulling up during the drive and I had to keep stopping and getting more tape. Till I stopped at a Walmart and got some gorilla duct tape. I took down the whole sunroof assembly to fix this issue and disconnected the controls so that I don't accidentally open it. I replaced all spark plugs, all coils, upgraded coil internals and coil wires to Granetelli (I noticed the performance right away) all fluids, I added a cooler to my steering pump (got it on Amazon) upgraded the tranny cooler, replaced all brakes and brake parts. All of the stuff I have done was preventative maintenance, considering nothing had been done to the truck. I did have to get some work done because of actual repairs. Like I was going into limp mode a lot. Took it in had tranny work done, but the problem came back ... Turns out that the wire harness that is near the exhaust manifold was laying on it and the heat was melting/causing all my issues. A zip tie took care of that. Never have had an issue since. I didn't do it all at once, but as I was able to. I did all the work myself, I am not a mechanic. I did all the research on raptor forums and TH-cam. I will say, that I have had to drive back and forth to Cali 8 times starting in 2020 till 2021 and she has never left me stranded. Most of the work I have done was while I was in Houston. Recently I completely replaced all of the front suspension, along with the 4x4 components. I love my truck and I'll never get rid of her.
For 10 years now, I've had a 2003 Ford F250 with the 6.0 diesel. For the last 5 years or so I've wanted this Raptor. This trucks "issues" seem like a walk in the park compared to what I've dealt with. At one point my wife reminded me that "we've paid this truck off twice" between the loan and repairs. Any how, I'm glad I came across this video, just let's me know I won't be wasting my time or money on one.
These are finally becoming affordable. When I've been searching I am seeing tons with 130k miles plus so that is a good thing. I think most people baby these and should be pretty easy to see if they kept up with the maintenance.
Have owned a Raptor for nearly 8 years now. Using it as a daily driver so I have 220k miles on it. All of those miles have been driven in nordic climate. I have had in one point all of the issues you listed. Latest was a full gearbox rebuild. Addition to those I have: *changed the starter motor (It failed due to dust buildup inside) *changed cooling radiators 3 times, original one had a small hole in the middle, second one basically blew out. *broken rear diff. the rear diff core was broken so only 4 small bolts of the lock was holding the 2 halves together. *2x shock absorber rebuild *some play in steering rack- Had it serviced/refurbished. *issues with air filter and air sensor. Air filter was sucked up on to the top part of housing and unfiltered air could enter my intake. That had issues with map sensor and truck tought that no air is entering motor so no fuel was needed. *Exhauhst manifold has a crack in it *rear camera lens is cracked, dusty and overall poor picture quality. Probably have forgotten a few things, but it still is a fun truck to drive daily. Future plans include: *total repaint/rust removal *maybe a supercharger, but I don´t want to create issues somewhere else with additional power.
Great vid!! I have had a 2012 Raptor since brand new, and have had most of these issues... Going thru the trans issues right now, and wasn't sure what was going on... Now I know! Did the plugs myself at 50K, did all the fluids and the shocks at 75k... Did the doughnut caused power steering fail last winter... All in all the truck has been awesome, it's #3689 of 5126 Tuxedo Black Raptors, born 6/22/2012!!
My 2011 had the rear Fox shocks leaking at 40 k. Replaced all 4, new end links and 2-inch ready lift on the front struts. Also installed 16 E3 spark plugs, Granatelli spark plug wires, 8 MSD coil packs and made an incredible difference in performance and MPG.
Yes my last 2012 Ford F150 Platinum had a sunroof leak and transmission problems after owning it for 10 years. I had 130,000 miles on it. 😊I traded it in for another F150 with no sunroof.
Great review ...Absolutely true. I´m located in Patagonia south of Chile and had to get a new torque converter and had to overhaul my transmission. Found water inside my whole transmission and had to change my radiator. Now I'm having issues with my power steering pump and starter motor. I've had it for 6 years and done 120.000 miles on it. Besides all of this I still love it and don't want to get rid of it yet. Fuel consumption is reasonable vs driving pleasure. The new 2023 Raptors (F150, Ranger) are just tooooo expensive.
Hopefully picking up my 2014 raptor this weekend! I lucked out and I know the previous owner really good and he babied it. All the issues you mentioned he already fixed. He did put a new transmission in it about a year ago.
btw if rear window doesnt roll down or lock, the wires break in the door simply pull the rubber garment off where the door harness meets the body and you will see broken wires
Looking into a couple 2013-14 raptors now that are over 100k miles to replace my tundra. I used to be a tech for toyota , so its defintly good to know what common issues the Raptor has and what to look out for. Luckily in the south, I drove my tundra for a winters in Vt and just from 1 season , the effects of the salt/ brine show up. The list on this is fairly small compared to most lol. absolutely every vehicle on the road has know issues to look out for so good video., much appreciated.
Also a former Toyota tech from VT with a Gen 1 Raptor. Don’t hesitate to buy one, but do yourself the favor of buying one from a southern state with no rust on it. Cab corners, rocker panels, front and rear bumpers get very rusty in areas with salted roads. 2011, 2013, and 2014 are the best years to buy. 13 and 14 you can update to the latest ford stereo/head unit affordably. You can’t with the 2011. Mine has 174k on it but it’s still running solid
Going on 73k miles issues/maintenance so far: Tire replacement 50k Spark plug out of socket Power steering out (fully clocked donuts) Had transmission upshift and downshift clunk (tune fixed clunk/jerk)
I have a 277000km 2010 just swapped out what I think could be the OEM or shocks rebuild from 150000km as the first owner kept the owners manual stamps from Ford. The transmission and engine seem fine when I first got it I noticed a leak the last guy didn't tell me about whatever it was 500 bucks to fix. Very minimal rust all just surface mostly in the wheel wells and on the diff. Bed gap is uniform. Not sure what happened to the back left tail light looks like someone bent the top flange that holds it 🤷 and the license plate lights shook themselves out on my first trip off road and shattered one of the bulbs as well as shaking the back left upper tail light bulb wires probably do to it being held on loose to begin with. Small leak above the back window I'm assuming it's with the sunroof drain. Still doesn't have the fuse 27 relocation and isn't melted. AC for the passenger side only blows hot unsure why just yet.
Check out the spots I highlighted in the video and take your time with walking around it.Wouldn't hurt to have a second set of eyes come with you as well.
If you can; set aside some money and get the extended warranty. That way you can actually use the truck for what it’s made for, without the worry of braking something. Beautiful truck though! 🤙🏿
I'm a gigantic raptor fan but have run in to massive amounts of problems despite low duty, street use, garage kept, washed religiously. Other things to consider, - trans cooler line connector corrosion - rust belt problem probably with caliper pistons seizing - blend doors, like you said, 4 - a/c, not sure if its wide spread though - never heard of the torque converter problem but lead frame issue with 6r80s. Whats funny with the rust is that they have the outer shell withstanding corrosion, its the internal rusting thats the problem, partcially from the draining system they have running through the back cab from roof to cab corner and no method of draining out, so cab corner and rocker panel take the damage.
lol thats awesome , Im a Brandon as well and a huge car nut ! so curious how many used first gen 6.2 Raptors have been jumped ? or extreme offroaded ? we live in a world where 90% of people are posers and do not use vehicles as to what they are intended for , lots of people are about status only , I dont wanna go Eco Boost , heard bad things about the Engines melting and it sounds like Sh!t
Hey man I got a quick question. I’m in a situation where I’m deciding on a gen 1 raptor special edition ruby red with only 100k miles on it and it’s stock for 34k or a Fully loaded luxury packaged 2016 Lariat with the 5L V8 with 54k miles also for 34k. Which one would you recommend?

Would love to hear more about the process you used to buy the truck that was so far away. I have been looking local WI/IL and would be great to get FL truck no rust.
it's simply looking up individual (usually smaller) dealerships in random cities in sunny states. Look at their websites and call them directly. They don't always list their vehicles on autotrader for example which could work in your favor. It's more work, but it's worth it and you can find some good stuff. Be patient!

First unzip your pants. If you see less than 4 inches your good to go. Sorry just never understood these. There are terrible work trucks, they are not good grocery getters, and lets be honest..... for you could build something that is twice as good of road for half the price. So... what does that leave?
I'm not going to "build" a truck. For me I want it ready to go, fun, reliable, and hold value. That ticks all the boxes for what I was looking for. If you want to build a truck, more power to you man.
Special ordered one in 2012 with no options. 43k off the dealer lot. Still have it. 52,000 miles and going strong. Best truck you will ever buy.
Sad these people are still trying to sell them for MSRP from YEARS ago.

As a daily would you rather a 2013 first gen raptor or a 2013 Silverado
1st gen raptor of course. It's much more truck and will hold value better.
Don't forget the ball joints. They get worn out pretty regular on ford trucks
So if fuse 27 is such an issue why didn't ford do a recall and stand behind there product.
My fuse 27 was done by a dealer but done incorrectly :(. He wired it to the blower motor relay. Always good to see if the new Fuse 70 kills the pump.
I just bought a 2011, and the transmission started slipping. Good thing I got full coverage bumper to bumper
any thins else wrong? i’m looking at one

Nice truck bro. I’m looking at buying one with the smaller cab 2010 with 95k miles for 23k out the door. Am i getting a deal or ripped off? Lol
