As people who know me, they also know I knew very well was a good friend of the late tenor Richard Tucker for many years, as he once told me when I first heard a record of Lanza's," I thought he has the greatest voice in the world" Contrary to what you heard about Tucker, in truth when you knew him like I did, he was not egotistical, but totally honest, and even blunt in his thoughts, and he didn't mind telling you if you asked him about other singers, and that was his answer for me when I asked him long ago about Lanza, also Terry Robinson gave me a picture of the two tenors, (not the published one you see from 1958) of Lanza backstage in London, in 1958 in Tucker's dressing room after Tucker was singing in Tosca with Covent Garden opera, and they both where with their wives, Betty and Sara, then they went out for a private dinner at Mario's hotel suite that lasted most of the rest of the night, with the two Americans becoming friends. Mary Cocozza and Terry both related to me in the early 1960's how Mario and Betty enjoyed the Tucker's and Richard and Sara Tucker not long after that told me how much they enjoyed that dinner with Mario and Betty, also since I knew both the Cocozza's and Tucker's so well, I had heard from both families about that night in London. Mario actually had on the phone in conversation talked with his parents about it, and how he enjoyed seeing Richard singing in the opera, and then meeting and hosting the Tucker's that night.

He sings with his soul. No other voice like his. In Dio, mi potevi…, an almost recitative aria, Lanza matches no one in voice or interpretation. In O Paradiso, Lanza rhapsodizes about the New World, that shows all the awe Vasco da Gama feels of its beauty. I can almost feel the warmth of the sun on my face, his wonder of a land he claims as his own, in this wonderful aria. Mario Lanza never gets old.
Yes, "a cascade of charisma" --- and a bounty of brilliance! Glorious stuff, young Vince, and so creatively edited!

Some singers have charisma, but only a mediocre voice. Others have a great voice, but are quite boring in their performances. Mario Lanza had it all... the voice, the looks, an enormous talent for fine interpretation... and charisma! ⭐️💖⭐️

One of the very special tenor voices, no matter what and he gave us an appreciation for the tenor voice at it's best, by his passionate warm singing, few had his beauty and warmth of voice, in so many Recordings, Films, Radio, TV and live Concerts. RIP.
