Caruso, awaiting the birth of his child, was working while his wife labored...one of the sweet scenes in this movie. Superb singing and fun acting.

Excellent. I have that exact scene on a framed vinyl album hanging in my living room. Incomparable Mario.

Great scene, everything, everyone zooming in on an excited and expectant Mario-Enrico... I remember the day when I first discovered (being still a teenager and not a native English speaker) that ML was actually singing „a girl“ and „yes, a girl“... It‘s not to be heard here, but it‘s in the movie - and you can see him utter the words when you pay attention... 💖⭐️💖
Thank you for sharing this musical, vocal, and scenical delight! 🙏🍀
I definitely must watch this movie again...!!!

I watched this movie again - and I realized he was the best tenor of all times - his ease of singing is unparalleled - no other tenor ever since got even close -
too bad he died so young - I can watch him sing all day long -perfect!

Thank you for your kind and inspiring answer!
It‘s always a great experience to not only hear Mario Lanza sing, but also watch him on screen! He wasn‘t the greatest of actors in front of a studio camera, but he was so spot on, fully there, grew beyond himself, when acting and singing came together! Like a real stage animal. The stage should have been his world. Through his movies we get at least tiny glimpses of what could have been... and I‘ll never stop loving and re-watching Lanza‘s movies... ⭐️

Even though I love this Classical Masterpiece, I would find simply hilarious if someone were to sing it while he was drunk.

The principals are smiling during a tragic moment in the opera. Hollywood.

If you know opera, this is prime comedy. Everyone is happy, but the scene they are signing is supposed to be extremely tragic. The girl is supposed to be depressed and Mario Lanzxa is playing someone heartbroken. So imagine them in character. And if you understand Italian it makes it doubly funny.

That is what I love about this clip. Several of the players try to stay in character, but Alisa steals glances at Lanza and grins away. Hilarious.

I suspect Hollywood directors didn't think audiences could handle a long opera sextet without a gimmick.

Lanza should have stayed clear from Donizetti especially Edgardo. His voice wasn't strong enough. Shame , he's beautiful in most things

why oh why do they do these things, this is not good the voice is not strong bordering on weak in the piece, if you want to hear how this should be sung listen to a recording by Galli-Curci and Caruso (not a great fan of Caruso but this recording is special), you might also like to listen to the Bergonzi Scotto recording it is near perfection, and also listen to any of the recordings on TH-cam featuring Pavarotti total perfection again, we all have our own views on certain artists and pieces but any of the ones mentioned would put the Lanza to shame, cheers.

Not sure if everyone quite sounds in time there. However, maybe that's just me. Lanza was my mother's idol, and I think he had a great voice. I know De Stefano thought of him as a great tenor. Unfortunately he was not destined for a life in opera.I appreciate his voice, and his recording of E Lucevan le Stelle is one of the best I've heard.

Yeh, the timing was a lil' odd, and "Hollywoodafied" and considering they were miked the sound balance seemed muffled. But it was a lovely listen. I will check out "E Lucevan le Stelle" by Mr. Lanza. Thanks for the tip.
