      Definitely. This is the first time I’ve ever thought about wearing gloves. My time in the Marine Corps. Dirty hands carbon covered hands, throwing dips in, eating, all that.

    Whenever I’m done cleaning my guns I clean the cleaning brushes along with whatever else I use to clean them with such as a rag(etc)- with a mild dishwashing detergent and lukewarm water. I rinse the brushes(both nylon and metal bristles), cleaning rods, picks, scrapers and bore snake until no black residue can be seen. Then I pat them dry the best I can and let them completely air dry. You’d be surprised at how many people who use the same carbon saturated brush numerous times or literally buy new cleaning brushes after each use.

    • @BT_Spanky
      @BT_Spanky 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@linuxinstalled you’re welcome. You’d think or assume that this is commonly known knowledge but surprisingly it isn’t. Even when I was in the Marine Corps we’d often just wipe down our weapons cleaning gear with a rag and just reuse them later and when they’d get too dirty we’d just go to the armory to get new cleaning gear. I got out in 2007 and it’s crazy to think that it wasn’t until last year when I saw a TH-cam comment myself where someone said they just rinse their cleaning brushes(both nylon and wire bristles) after each use to clean them. I was mind blown 🤯 by such a simple hack. Now the bristles on my cleaning brushes stay clean and white or copper color.

    I have a CZ so it's a bit different from this but still there were some solid points that I didn't think of.
    I usually like to clean my gun very thoroughly after every range session because cleaning the gun to me is quite relaxing and somewhat therapeutic. I just turn on some music and start cleaning so I pretty much do the deep cleaning every time.
    I have also used the stuff that both cleans and lubricates but I probably will try these or similar to these products in the future.

    For Glocks, all you need is the nylon bore brush that comes with your firearm. With that said, a phosphor brush is still a good alternative. Myself....I have a little mixture of odorless mineral sprits and CLP in a mason jar. I'll pour some in a small foil pan and put my barrel in it to "marinate" while I'll clean the rest of the weapon (I'm not big fan of the word 'gun'. Blame my father and the Army lol. It's either a firearm, pistol, or weapon). After I get the frame and slide clean, then I simply pull the barrel out, run the nylon brush thru, a couple patches, then hit it with some RemOil, and we're gtg.

    I’ve learned over the years it’s not necessary to give your guns the white glove treatment after every use, especially with the ar-15 platform. However, my ocd nature prevents me from doing it any other way. Especially with my handguns. I have found that with a proper amount of lube especially in and on the barrel definitely lends to the finish lasting much longer. I’ve got a gen 5 19 with well over 5k rds through it and the “smiley face” mark appears much much more pronounced and much quicker on my barrels that I did not show quite as much care with while cleaning. To each his own I guess, but for me I probably go a little overboard with it and it just makes me feel better when I put them back in the safe.

    You would have to have a pot metal barrel to do any damage with brass or bronze which are way down the hardness scale compared to the 4140/4150 barrel steel.
    (With a very worn poorly applied chrome lining that's already chipping maybe a small truth to it)

    • @jrmbayne
      @jrmbayne ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the idea comes from the hundreds of thousands of rounds necessary to shoot the barrel out. Copper is softer than steel, yet still wears it down, but uniformly. The general brush concern is brass (harder than copper) exhibiting non uniform microscopic wear, leading to accuracy degradation

    My first handgun was a Springfield XDS Mod 2 at 18 I still carry it today and I’m going on 25 and I’m looking to replace it but I really can’t decide. I’ve shot so many CC guns and I’ve been running tests with the XDS, p365, shield, and the hellcat. There’s so many things I like more about them than mine. The skimmer grip, the stippling, sight apertures, trigger, higher capacity mags (stack and a half). I shot half dollar groupings with all of them at 10 yards and quarter sized groupings at 5 yards with a relatively rapid fire test. All of them are high quality firearms

    I keep a 3 gal. (you could use a 5 gal.) bucket of sand near my bench into which I test/dry fire when cleaning, emptying or just checking triggers, etc., at least for that "first pull" and your weapon is safe.
    I'm really surprised more people don't think of/mention this. A 3 gal. bucket of sand will effectively stop pistol rounds and take (most of) the oomph out of a rifle round. When I'm doing a lot with rifles or *know* im going to discharge a round, I use a 5 gal. bucket full of "play sand" (about $6 for bucket, lid & 20lbs. sand at Home Depot). Water works but it takes a *lot* larger container.
    Buying a "certified" commercial bullet trap is a pretty expensive venture. If you want something a little more "fancy" than a home depot bucket, you can build an effective "bullet trap."
    You can order an 8" x 24" pvc pipe and add an end cap and screw cap assy.
    I glued on a flange over the hole on the inside of the screw cap and attached a short length of 1.5" pipe to the flange, which helps guide the barrel of an inserted weapon, stops sand from splashing back and aids with sound suppression (absolutely still water ear/eye protection!).
    Building this out of steel is a commitment in resources and is not readily (but not impossible) movable and may require some fabrication skills but can be cheaper than a commercial bullet trap.
    A next (to some, preferable) option in steel is a length of 4" "square tubing" between 1& 2 feet long. It will require basic welding and fab skills (local welding shops could knock it right out but, can be pricey) to welding a plate to the bottom and, if desired, top and cutting a 2" round hole through which to shoot and add/empty sand and lead. A portable stand would also be a wise addition.
    It just depends upon what access you have to materials and your skills/local tallent you have but, ultimately you can build a bullet trap a lot cheaper than buying and if you go with the plastic pipe and use a great amount of awareness when using it, you can get the job done for a reasonable cost of money and effort.
    Didn't mean to go into a diatribe but, I hate giving (and reading) partial info in the comments section that usually leave you with more questions than answers. 😀

    I suggest that you DO NOT spray any solvent into the underside of the slide on any Glock, while the slide is inverted. And do not spray any solvent with force into that area. Since the striker (firing pin) channel is open on the bottom, spraying solvent into that area, will result in the solvent carrying some of the gunk that accumulates from shooting into that channel, and then it will evaporate, leaving the gunk behind. When the level of gunk builds up over time, it can slow the movement of the striker. In severe cases (and this can happen with prolonged firing without cleaning, or over the course of time) it may cause light primer strikes and failures to fire. This malfunction can't be cleared by tapping and racking. The gun will have to be disassembled to clean it.
    When testing with dry firing, the gun will seem to function normally - it will go click when the trigger is pulled, but since the striker has been slowed down by the presence of the gunk, it won't hit the primer with sufficient energy to fire the round.
    This issue can be prevented by holding the slide on its side or in "normal" position (sights up) when applying the solvent and by not spraying the solvent with force.
    Occasionally the slide should be completely torn down for cleaning to clean out the gunk that normally builds up in this area.

If you have some spare steel you can make one for fairly cheap and just need to fill it with water or sand and it'll stop pretty much anything. (Do keep in mind that sub sonic ammunition penetrates further in water then other kinds of ammo)
    Keeps your desk and floor safe as well as anything else around you. Also helps get rid of that little wrong feeling I get whenever I have to pull the trigger when I'm not at the range or with something I'm intending to shoot while keeping the feeling for any other case

    I use to shoot a lot of competitions and one thing i saw was people running straight up grease for lube. When you shoot a large quantity of rounds grease sticks around longer than oil. The down side is that cleaning become so much more important (and messier). You never want to drop your gun in the dirt because dirt will stick to that grease and scratch everything up. I got to thinking about that for the G18 we have at the shop and sure enough grease is the better option.
    As a side note, you forgot to lube the rails (Glock Armor class said to do that), and your shooter lube works well on carbon but not on copper or lead. Copper usually isnt too bad in handguns and lead really is not an issue at all if you are using jacketed bullets; but in rifles, especially overbore rifles, that shooter lube isnt going to cut it.
    Fun fact about lead: it is only harmful if it is in the organic, salt, vapor, or acetate states. The lead you find in bullets is fine for you, touch it all you want. You start melting it or pouring vinegar on it then you need to start taking more safety steps.

    "I run my guns semi-dry" - proceeds to completely cover the barrel in oil.

      I watched this guy oil his ar with a paintbrush, I guess his way is great if you shoot on an indoor range and clean your gun every session. I actually use my firearms in the field and I would never use lubricant in those quantities.

      I have 4 CZ pistols and I absolutely agree with you! I love the take down lever on my H&K VP9 and wish all guns used that method. Still you can't beat a CZ.

    Cleaning? Bro...I'm sorry but if you have to clean your gun you're buying the cheap stuff. I've put over 25 rds through my JA 380 and it's only jammed 4 or 5 times that I can remember. You don't clean them, you shoot them!

      Bro you sound so wack, 25 rounds and had jams is wild , i shoot hundreds of rounds and never jams mayne that 380 being 125 dollars is your issue you should have 0 jams especially in under 500 rounds
