Agreed! Three home consoles that were all very good, and sold 80 million plus, each. That's never been seen before or since. Not to mention the handhelds at the time, the DS, the PSP and the tail end of the GBA. Awesome times.
Since, yeah. But it still it was a smaller jump than PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/Dreamcast coming from PS1/N64/Saturn. And the 5th gen coming from the SNES/Genesis etc. And it's only going to be smaller and smaller, diminishing returns.

100% agreed. I remember my best friend Colin got a PS3 and invited me over to play some GTA 4... Dude, when he booted it up and handed me the controller, I was shocked. They looked almost like real life. When I boot the console up and play PS3 games nowadays, at times I am still impressed. It was absolutely the largest leap from generation to generation, no doubt!

I think it's the only generation which kept the competition on its toes. The Wii,ps3 and 360 all were highly successful even if there might have been some setbacks

PS3 has a huge library of single player games that I enjoy playing to this day. It can even play PS1 discs as well and it's also a pretty good DVD/Blu-Ray player as well. My PS3 collection has been expanding recently and I'm happy with the collection that I have.
also it's in a time when politics wasnt severely injected into everything. plus most of the games can run without internet. though some games need that patch just to iron things out. but most of the time everything is on the disc. especially the goty/complete editions.

Unfortunately I didn't get that feeling with my PS4, I don't think I could tell you what games I played first sadly. Whereas I can remember every PS3 game I played over those first few months. The PS3 was difficult to make games for, but it was still great because of its high definition visuals. It was a precursor to modern-day gaming and consoles. And of course, there were some of the greatest games; Uncharted, The Last of Us, Demon's Souls, Tools of Destruction, Infamous, Resistance Fall of Man, LittleBigPlanet and Heavenly Sword to name a few

A few weeks ago, I got a backward compatible PS3 at a thrift store for $55. I took it apart and put new thermal paste in it. Surprisingly, it had very little dust in it considering it had never been open and being 18 years old.
The free online experience beats everything! The reason why I never switched to ps4. Also, playing splitscreen online without having to log in to another account :)
The slim model 2000-series is the way forward, not the phat (which has known hardware manufacturing faults). With CFW a 2000-series slim can do ps1-2-3 and lots of homebrew/emulators etc. and won't fail 10 minutes after you buy it. Swap in a 1TB SSD, load up with 250+ games etc. The psn exclusives are pretty amazing, Outrun Online, HOTD4, many others.
I have a launch 60GB Phat PS3 and I have not figured out anywhere to get it repaired. It powers off with a beep 1 second after trying to power on. (No YLOD, only the red power light). I would love to get this working again as it was the most fully-featured console, EVER
The Xbox 360 was my first console, and I sold it years later after finishing all the games I wanted to play. Then I bought an Xbox One, which I still have today. I still have 30 games in my library that I want to finish on it. That said, I’ve always wanted to play some PS3 exclusives, so instead of getting an Xbox Series X or PS5, I bought a PS3 Slim for just $40. I spent an hour cleaning and repasting it, and now it’s working like a charm. It’s been 18 years since the PS3 FAT was released and 15 years since the PS3 Slim launched. It’s amazing how much fun it still brings in 2024, while users are already complaining about games for the PS5 or X/S. My recommendation is to buy PS3 before it gets much more expensive. PS3 and Xbox 360 are probably the best retro consoles on the market right now and you can buy them for pennies...

I got 2 slims and 1 super slim, just in case. Thinking about buying another super slim just to be safe. Also recently got gold on all GT5 races inculding Vettel where you play 3 maps. Ring, Monza and Suzuka took me 3 weeks to complete these 3 races legit with a damn controller. Was doing circles everyday for at least 5 hours. What a rollercoaster of emotions it was. I'm only left with 24 hour endurace races to reach damn lvl 50, what a grind. Wish me luck :D P.S. love format of your video very entertaining, please do more. If you could do Killzone 2 Multiplayer video that would be bonkers! 😂
The slim and super slim systems are bullit (and summer heat) proof. 3 systems should be enough for this century I think...😄. Having had big trouble with two "fat ladys" from 2007-2012, the "slim ladys" works perfect since 12 years, without change anything (laser, disc drive or what ever). Got 1 slim (k-chassis) and 1 super slim. PS: Good Luck with GT5 and your dualshock 3 controller 🤪😝, that´s a little bit crazy.
I also had fat lady that got ylod on which was my GT5 save from 10-15 years ago. Recently got back into it, playing from Scratch after all those years using slim and super slim ladys with PS+ just to back up my save file. I hate paying for services I don't use since ps3 online is free. But back up cloud save is a must have for me. Love those summer heat free systems 😅

Fortunately, various saves can be copied to usb and can continue to be used on a second PS3 without PSN (Last of us, Dead space, etc.), but it depends on which game. I had exactly the same thing with GT5 and the "great" ylod 😵. Does your PS3 run as well as before with the latest firmware (4.91 I think?), haven´t found any negative on the net. "My" latest fw is 4.88 😁, so haven´t been logged in my PS3 for a long time...🥱😉. (Game updates are possible to download with older fw, as far I remember).

Until 12 months ago, I could play it (battle royal, etc.) freely (in warzone 1-3) at any time. Won´t give them a cent just for online gaming. All the better, then from now on only PS3 multiplayer, until it becomes a perishing service. Have fun with GT5 and happy holidays at the end of the year.

For some reason I liked the xbox 360 more than the ps3. Still both were amazing. I never understood these why you need a ps3 in 2024. The graphics look incredible bad on a 4k display. Yet with moving some stuff around, I created some open space at my desk where my pc is and I filled that space with the ps3, 24inch full hd screen and I was actually amazed how good it looked ! So yeah , i get it now :D
Ps3 2500 models are the best for everything. It has the shrinked rsx, good cooling and can still be jailbroken, also overclocking is a thing. I do love those phat models but sadly those will die if you don’t swap the rsx
Yeah, so the majority of ps3 games actually don’t run in 1080p. 720p was the standard for that system due to how hard it was to develop for. Just take a look at the back of the game cases you own and you can check to see which support 1080p or not.
Have a 80gb fatty, and the problem that kills it for me is the jet engine noise, I changed the 15 blades fan for the 19, change the paste and the ram pads. no dice Also have 1 slim and 2 super slims and the hdmi output died in all 3 of them
That's a bummer, is it that hard to fix the hdmi issue? If not then at least you have a salvageable consoles, I know on some hardware it's an ic that breaks but if it's the ports it's best to get someone skilled to replace them if you haven't done it before, if it's a case of replacing the ports someone who is skilled can do that easily.

the best thing about the PS3 is you can easily mod the shit out of it, i mean you can literally put in a laptop HDD (i got superslim) and it works like normal. You get tons of homebrew content on internet that may help you get always something new to your gaming experiance. And also when moded you can emulate PS2, PS1 games with smooth fps,,, its perfect for someone that doesnt have a computer with NASA hardware installed.
Ive had my family PS3 for years but I finally got my very own PS3 phat in 2021 I had to buy one considering the family PS3 was used way too mutch and sounded horrible I was supposed to buy the new Nintendo switch lite but I said they didn't have any in stock lol 😂
Most importantly (for me) is the media player, music player. The PS3 is by far the most elegant and pleasing to watch for hours on end while the system plays music with that perfect screensaver without any text or blocks to burn in your tv... Sadly, the newer models ps4/5 don't have any function to just listen to music and watch something nice, they force text and boxes in static and if left on for hours (like we do with music), this can and will burn in your LED tv... I don't know why Sony went backwards with their media players. The PS3 is the best media player of all playstations and justifiable to buy one for that single purpose. ...imo, the best combo is the ps3 for media, and a ps5 for new games and higher frame rates,...but also the future will probably be the ps3 and ps6, 7, or 8 until they return to a good media player.
Personally, I wouldn’t go for the PS3 Fat because of the 90nm and 65nm RSX chips (except maybe a Frankenstein one with a 40nm RSX). They will fail eventually; it's just a matter of when. The PS3 Slim with a 40nm RSX is a better option. Softmodding is possible, and overclocking to a good extent too. The PS3 SS is nice with its 28nm Chip, but no modding
I love the ps3, my girlfriend got me one for ny birthday a couple months ago. I grind silent hill, killzone, fallout 3 / New vegas, world at war, all the gory stuff
…except that, apart from around 10 games, you may as well have saved your time and just waited for the PS4 remasters and enjoyed a much better experience. Then of course, there was PS3 Skyrim. That’s 300 hours of my life I won’t get back 😔.

I'm currently playing the God of War trilogy and Uncharted trilogy on PC using the emulator in 4K/60fps and it's really nice.
Still own PS3 250GB Slim model since 2009. revisited GT5 this (hot) summer and never serviced console or change paste, still works fine... ;-)

It’s been 18 years since the PS3 FAT was released and 15 years since the PS3 Slim launched. It’s amazing how much fun it still brings in 2024, while users are already complaining about games for the PS5 or X/S.
My recommendation is to buy PS3 before it gets much more expensive. PS3 and Xbox 360 are probably the best retro consoles on the market right now and you can buy them for pennies...

Love my ps3 slim, still use it and have hen installed. Playing ps1 games is fun too and with hen I can play burnt ps1 games easily.

I got 2 slims and 1 super slim, just in case. Thinking about buying another super slim just to be safe. Also recently got gold on all GT5 races inculding Vettel where you play 3 maps. Ring, Monza and Suzuka took me 3 weeks to complete these 3 races legit with a damn controller. Was doing circles everyday for at least 5 hours. What a rollercoaster of emotions it was. I'm only left with 24 hour endurace races to reach damn lvl 50, what a grind. Wish me luck :D

The slim and super slim systems are bullit (and summer heat) proof. 3 systems should be enough for this century I think...😄. Having had big trouble with two "fat ladys" from 2007-2012, the "slim ladys" works perfect since 12 years, without change anything (laser, disc drive or what ever). Got 1 slim (k-chassis) and 1 super slim.
PS: Good Luck with GT5 and your dualshock 3 controller 🤪😝, that´s a little bit crazy.
I also had fat lady that got ylod on which was my GT5 save from 10-15 years ago. Recently got back into it, playing from Scratch after all those years using slim and super slim ladys with PS+ just to back up my save file. I hate paying for services I don't use since ps3 online is free. But back up cloud save is a must have for me. Love those summer heat free systems 😅
@@berka05 yeah, the one with the copy-protected saves is Sonys stupidest idea in the PS3 era. But, multiplayer all for free..😘🥴?! Fortunately, various saves can be copied to usb and can continue to be used on a second PS3 without PSN (Last of us, Dead space, etc.), but it depends on which game. I had exactly the same thing with GT5 and the "great" ylod 😵. Does your PS3 run as well as before with the latest firmware (4.91 I think?), haven´t found any negative on the net. "My" latest fw is 4.88 😁, so haven´t been logged in my PS3 for a long time...🥱😉.
(Game updates are possible to download with older fw, as far I remember).
Yeah I tried to transfer files with usb for GT5 and realized I can't 😂 my ps3 runs same as before with latest firmware, I think there is nothing to worry about
@@berka05 O.k. thanks for the quick response. Yesterday I wanted to load the new warzone (4) on my PS4, but apparently it only works with PS-Plus lately. Until 12 months ago, I could play it (battle royal, etc.) freely (in warzone 1-3) at any time.
Won´t give them a cent just for online gaming. All the better, then from now on only PS3 multiplayer, until it becomes a perishing service.

For some reason I liked the xbox 360 more than the ps3. Still both were amazing.
I never understood these why you need a ps3 in 2024. The graphics look incredible bad on a 4k display. Yet with moving some stuff around, I created some open space at my desk where my pc is and I filled that space with the ps3, 24inch full hd screen and I was actually amazed how good it looked !

Ps3 2500 models are the best for everything. It has the shrinked rsx, good cooling and can still be jailbroken, also overclocking is a thing. I do love those phat models but sadly those will die if you don’t swap the rsx

Yeah, so the majority of ps3 games actually don’t run in 1080p. 720p was the standard for that system due to how hard it was to develop for. Just take a look at the back of the game cases you own and you can check to see which support 1080p or not.
Have a 80gb fatty, and the problem that kills it for me is the jet engine noise, I changed the 15 blades fan for the 19, change the paste and the ram pads. no dice
Also have 1 slim and 2 super slims and the hdmi output died in all 3 of them

That's a bummer, is it that hard to fix the hdmi issue? If not then at least you have a salvageable consoles, I know on some hardware it's an ic that breaks but if it's the ports it's best to get someone skilled to replace them if you haven't done it before, if it's a case of replacing the ports someone who is skilled can do that easily.
@@jriffin6331 nah, you just need to swap a chip, but I don't know how to do it and is around a 100 dolar repair in my coutry, for that money you can just buy a used one in a pawn shop with a original controller and a couple of games

the best thing about the PS3 is you can easily mod the shit out of it, i mean you can literally put in a laptop HDD (i got superslim) and it works like normal. You get tons of homebrew content on internet that may help you get always something new to your gaming experiance. And also when moded you can emulate PS2, PS1 games with smooth fps,,, its perfect for someone that doesnt have a computer with NASA hardware installed.
The super slim also has the most advanced node which made it a lot cooler and less power hungry. Sadly it just looks rough
Ive had my family PS3 for years but I finally got my very own PS3 phat in 2021 I had to buy one considering the family PS3 was used way too mutch and sounded horrible I was supposed to buy the new Nintendo switch lite but I said they didn't have any in stock lol 😂
Most importantly (for me) is the media player, music player.
The PS3 is by far the most elegant and pleasing to watch for hours on end while the system plays music with that perfect screensaver without any text or blocks to burn in your tv...
Sadly, the newer models ps4/5 don't have any function to just listen to music and watch something nice, they force text and boxes in static and if left on for hours (like we do with music), this can and will burn in your LED tv... I don't know why Sony went backwards with their media players.
The PS3 is the best media player of all playstations and justifiable to buy one for that single purpose.
...imo, the best combo is the ps3 for media, and a ps5 for new games and higher frame rates,...but also the future will probably be the ps3 and ps6, 7, or 8 until they return to a good media player.

Personally, I wouldn’t go for the PS3 Fat because of the 90nm and 65nm RSX chips (except maybe a Frankenstein one with a 40nm RSX). They will fail eventually; it's just a matter of when. The PS3 Slim with a 40nm RSX is a better option. Softmodding is possible, and overclocking to a good extent too. The PS3 SS is nice with its 28nm Chip, but no modding
360 was just so clear this generation
Not to mention that if you've never connected the PS3 to the internet you can crack it so you can play PS4 games on it😊
