The 1st story reminded me of a story my husband told me. He was travelling home on a train one evening and the conductor asked to see his ticket, which he showed him. The conductor then went to a group of young ladies and asked the same. They said that their tickets were on their phones and the phones had run out of power. They couldn't charge up their phones because they hadn't got the power cables etc. My husband overhearing said "I have a cable you can borrow" and they asked what sort of phone he'd got. They made the assumption that because his phone was different, the cable couldn't be used on their phones.....WRONG!!! My husband has a power cable which has 3 different attachments for different phones. You should have seen their faces :)

that train conductor sounds like an incredibly upstanding person, so many people avoid previous convicts like the plague, especially for crimes like murder, which is how so many end up re-offending; the social outcasting hits hard and doesn't give a chance for a good, honest life.

Up until the end of story 3, I honestly thought Lisa was grinning because she was helping OP stick it to Tom. That Lisa knew about Tom's unreasonableness, and was letting OP chill at the register for a while, while Tom and/or his chosen employee to cover grocery sweated it out in the back. Worked for a beer distributor before and OP is 100% right about store managers being the lords over their little kingdom. I had one store along my entire route that was a nightmare to work because of a male Karen named “Doug”. This dr Phil sounded POS would come up and complain about backstock looking a mess and the cooler not being faced all the time. And I routinely had to explain that I was with the Other company whose backstock was organized and rotated our section of the cooler was stocked and faced. I took pride in it just like OP.
This guy tries to escalate the argument and call our corporate because I didn’t fill a spot in the cooler that was empty (it was our competitors spot). I tried explaining it to him that it wasn’t our product and I’m not going to be liable for handling it. He starts full volume cussing me out on the floor. I tell him it’s not my problem and walk out. Thankfully that store got taken off my rotation and the manager was summarily let go a few weeks later for a multitude of reasons. If you’re somewhere out there Doug reading this. I hope losing everything and having to move back to NM was worth it 🤣

Fluff, on story 3 there may not be a firing in there. but there is a thing. Those two made a calculation of a 2500 loss there were expecting OP to cover, however the tides turned that it was their fault the goods were lost. So the problem got scalated on the end and most likely their boss is gonna make them pay that quantity + any other disciplinary action.

Sweet mother of God! That story about the grocery department guy who had to sit on his till while thousands of dollars worth of goods thawed out happened to me! Albeit the circumstances were a little different but the story is basically the same.
I worked in what’s basically a UK equivalent of Wal Mart in the dairy department and it had the same mandatory policy. Only I suppose some of my managers were smarter than that because there were essential roles that made you immune from checkouts.
One of those was when the delivery came in out the back and at least one person had to do it right away because the frozen meat and chilled dairy items needed to be put in the freezer and fridge within twenty minutes.
Then the day came when the idiot manager came. I’d ignored all the calls to checkouts because everyone else had already been poached and I was rolling these heavy cages alone. He tells me to stop and go to checkouts. I’m very clear about why I can’t and he assures me I’ll only be gone ten minutes. I tell him I want the order in writing, authorising me to stop handling the delivery and go to checkouts. Signed, dated and timestamped.
And much like the OP I’m kept on checkouts for just over an hour and the cages of meat dairy have thawed out exactly where I was forced to leave them. So I rolled them to the waste area, put on the disposal tags and resumed work.
And like the OP I was called up to senior management and asked why I’d let thousands of pounds worth of stock thaw out. I had my signed, dated and timestamped form ready as I knew this was coming. (These forms aren’t used much. It’s basically a way to ass cover should you object and obey under protest.)
I said. “This is why. I made it very clear that there was chilled products out but I got overruled. You can pull up the checkout logs from systems office to confirm.” They weren’t pleased but I was sent back to work without further ado.
I don’t know what happened to the idiot manager or why he overruled me. He was a recent transfer as this was a manager training store. They changed regularly. He didn’t even know me so it couldn’t have been personal.
My best guesses are that he really intended for me to support checkouts just for the rush and forgot, or as a newly promoted manager the new rank and power went to his head. Either way I never learnt what happened to him but I know whatever it was, the punishment was bad. The supermarket chain detested unnecessary losses.
Huh, never figured I’d hear a story so similar to mine.

There's a couple big possibilities. Could be a bad self defense case (either a non-justified use of force *or* a public defender so bad at their job that they couldn't prove the case to the jury), could be a crime of passion, could be a tampered/compromised jury, or he could be outright framed.
If you don't have a good lawyer, a lot of the time you're walking into that courtroom guilty until proven guilty. If you don't have a good lawyer, your biggest hope is that the prosecutor is a complete window-licking mouth-breathing botched lobotomy victim and inadvertently makes your case for you. I.E. OJ Simpson, where the prosecution did such a bad job that, despite the jury being aware that he was almost certainly guilty, 'Not Guilty' was the correct verdict.

Story 3, or may be different but every place I've lived makes it illegal to garnish an employees wages at least without a court case. These cases are highly stacked against the company as it is assumed that said company is attempting to enslave and steal from the employee, the cost for the company to win is often times so high that they will choose to simply eat the cost instead as one of the stipulations is proving malice in causing the damage which is nearly impossible.

    • @nikkiparson7113
      @nikkiparson7113 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not sure where you live, but people from all over the world post to reddit. So where ever this story took place either the law isn't the same or there's some loophole where they could have their wages garnished. I do know in the US many places have policies where servers have to cover costs of meals that they served to people who dine and ditch. Really don't see how this is legal, but it happens all the time. It's not right and is comparable to if retail employees were required to cover costs of people who shoplift when they're on shift. In addition, many restaurants can legally reduce hourly wages because serving is a tipping position. And since tips are taxable they "supposedly" only reduce their hourly wage if their tips reach the minimum wage of that state, but in reality many places don't declare the tips and cut costs through a legal loophole to reduce paying their employees. Now there are some states where you can not reduce hourly wages on servers, but they can still deduct their credit card transaction costs of the business from servers tips. They also have tip out policies for what's called "back of the house" staff, such as kitchen staff and bussers, where they calculate a percentage of their sales to tip out. This is incredibly unfair to the server as they are not guaranteed any amount of tip calculated from sales. So if a server has a bad day, and tipping itself is growing out of practice, they end up tipping out of their own pocket. Just another move for the company to cut their own overhead costs because they're unwilling to pay their back of the house more and make servers out to be the greedy one's for not wanting to tip out.

The conductor always started ticket checking at the front of the train and never got to the last car or two before the train was pulling in at the next stop (most passengers rode a lot further) so we'd get in the doorway and hop out the moment it opened. That person often told the store management that I was to spend at least 3/4 of my time in my department as it was not only extremely profitable but they'd use it as an example to trainee managers/upper management so he wanted it to look as perfect as possible
Store management was furious as he also essentially created where I could get overtime often if I wanted

We do a lot of insurance work and got called for a restaurant fire. The initial adjuster paid $80k. We could not see all of the damage until the demolition was completed. We also discovered additional items while the work was in progress. When the job was finished, the price, and insurance payment, increased to $1.3 million.

I dunno, I’m generally of the opinion that when someone is released from prison they’ve been punished already for whatever they did.
Usually. I’m not sure I’d ever agree with letting a convicted murderer out for any reason. By killing someone they stole that person’s entire future and if the victim was young enough, the lives of any kids they might have had. So IMO a murderer should lose their whole future to prison.

He's done his time, we shouldn't be getting in the way of him leading a better life by the stigma surrounding convicts.
The social outcasting actively pushes convicts back into prisons because they often can't find any work at all, despite already having paid for their crime. And they can't even socialise properly and form healthy connections outside of prisons, so a lot of them find solace in each other, when they can.

Well I did not actually fall through the ceiling from inside the attic, but my right foot did break all the way through the ceiling and into the living space, and I was fired that day. Nice to hear it was Mr. president's residence. Yes, I was new on the job and I did not notice that the planked walkway inside the attic was just that, a small narrow walkway and I over stepped and put my foot down onto the ceiling's sheetrock and almost fell through into the top of the stairs hallway leading to the bedrooms.

There was one time where I had a legitimate excuse for not having a ticket. The station that I left from didn't have anyone to buy a ticket from but just a ticket machine. They didn't have a facility for credit cards; you had to put change into it. I had the right amount of change but in small coins. It wouldn't accept more than 10 coins at one time. When I got to the destination, I explained my situation. They agreed that it was genuine excuse but the fkrs still fined me. They said if I had a problem with that, I could take it to court. Bastards.

OOOOH story 3 reminded me sooo much of when I also worked at the bullseye xD I had been told I was going to get register training, I was fine with it, whatever... then a month passed. I asked about it and never really got a response. Another month. I asked again, nothing. And EVERY time they called for people to come cover registers, I'd begun turning to my coworkers and going "well I would but I'm not register trained." Even with supervisors around, I'd make sure to say it pretty clearly, since I was almost always on the floor (the place being what it was).
I'd stopped asking, and I'd worked there for quite some time when the busy busy holidays rolled around. Every time, I was just gleeful in saying how I'd never been register trained, even if directly asked to go help. It was so much fun to watch people get mad about it, because I literally wasn't able to get into a register without having passed the training course or whatever.
