I grew up in a rural area, then lived in other rural areas through most of my 20's. I moved to the city for dating and friends, as a non-religious person. It has been fun, but also expensive, and urban commuting can eat hours out of one's life.
I want to move rural again, but I'm waiting till after this November election in the US to make this decision.

A better life for your dog sounds like a great mind set. I'm so glad to hear you speak positive about seasons and nature. I live in a small town but one of my children lives and works in the northern Canadian wilderness with much of the same attitude as you. Live and learn in life as learning makes life fun. Great job on the video .

The transition was a gradual process in many years; like weekend picnics in the countryside, buying produce in the farmers market or straight from a farm, joining the nearest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), starting a small garden with two raised bed, and buying 3 hens and a rooster. There was a funny incident when someone posted a picture on the community Facebook page of Freddy the rooster leading the hens along the sidewalk near the bus stop. Concerned citizens were worried and we got knocks on our door for that. But no chicken got hurt or ran over. They were very good at staying safe. Then in 2016, we bought an abandoned small farm. We sold our urban house and moved to the countryside with the chickens and a dog....Slow living shit tested our marriage so the we/became just me at the beginning of pandemic. I was left with a lot of house repairs, and a forest to clear. But the grandeur of nature grounded me. The quiet winter nights with the Northern Lights were magical. I have a childhood memory of Grandmother sending her grandchildren (including me although I was not sick) to the countryside to heal from whooping cough. I had many allergies plus the headaches; I healed living in higher elevation and less human activity. I was also considered a "tin foil" hatter😂😊. Now I have a big area to grow my own food. I watch birds, squirrels, some deer, and sometimes the elusive moose pass through my yard at night. I walk in the forest with my dog and go down the salmon river to sit and listen. I love spider hunting and foraging in the woods ever since I was small. It is a Joy to eat wild fruits and pick mushrooms. In the house front, I did DIY renovations. I never thought I could do it...alone. But yeah... 18:52 That little sense of accomplishment is a very good thing. I wish you a happy journey. Blessings!

Moved to the countryside here in New York State a few years ago. Was born out here but moved into a suburb then into a city when I was 6. Have wanted to get out of the city for a long time and have moved in and out of the city several times but never into the countryside until now. Had to move quickly on a small budget so didn't take as long as we should have looking for a place. So we are now just outside of a small town. Its about an hour out from any major city here. So many positives getting out of the city. I love the solitude and peacefulness. However, I would advise anyone if possible to take your time looking. There are several things that we cant change unless we move again that we don't prefer and didn't realize until we were here. I would still like to be out in the country but closer to the city. For access to medical facilities, friends and to be closer to my job if we ever get pulled back to the office.
Also try to think of situations that may change in your life and how you would handle them and/or spend some time in the area to see how things actually are compared to what you think. For example we have a lot of farmland near us which I don't mind but the machinery is very loud at certain times of the year. We live next to a business that is like a daycare and recently put up bright lights that are on all night. I understand the reasoning for both situations just didn't think of these things. Even with the negatives I have mentioned and the challenges we have faced so far I wouldn't move back to to the city if you paid me to. I also take them as lessons so if we do decide to move we will have a better idea of what we are looking for and hopefully have the time and budget to find it. I think our ideal location would be just outside the suburbs but still in the country now.
