Dr. Anthony Chaffee - 'Plants are trying to kill you!'

  • Dr Anthony Chaffee is an American medical doctor specialising in Neurosurgery who over a span of 20 years has researched the optimal nutritional habits for athletic performance and health. It is his assertion that most of the so-called chronic diseases that doctors treat these days are actually caused by the food we eat, or don’t eat, and can in many cases be reversed easily with dietary changes.
Dr. Chaffee began his University education studying Molecular & Cellular Biology with a Minor in Chemistry at the University of Washington in Seattle at the age of 15, which culminated in attaining his MD from the Royal College of Surgeons.
Dr. Chaffee is an All-American rugby player and a former professional athlete in England and America, having taken several years off from his education for the pursuit of sports between his undergraduate degree and medical school. Throughout his athletic career he saw first hand the monumental difference that diet makes to performance and recovery.
Dr. Chaffee almost accidentally came across and practiced a fully carnivorous diet from age 20 to 25, having first learned of the toxic nature of plants during his University education. Since then he has rediscovered this truth and more and has dedicated many years and a large part of his professional practice to the study and education of diet and nutrition. He personally practices a fully carnivorous diet and currently resides in Perth, Australia where he does private consultations and clinics in functional medicine and nutrition.

I was vegan for over 10 years and recently started seeing these lectures on plants. I dropped the vegan stuff a year ago and went carnivore. To my surprise my health has done a 180 turn around. No one believes me when I tell them what I am doing. No vegetables now and I am IBS free, lost almost 40 lbs and now type II free. I have thrown away my juicer and no longer tell anyone to eat a salad. Thanks Dr Chaffee.

Actually, benefits are from sugar and carbs removal, not meat itself. If you ate meat + certain vegetables like green salads, onions, peppers etc it would be much more healthy diet, rather than some people who tell that they are forced to take pills and supplements because meat itself does not contain all nutrients body need, its mostly protein, iron, and some lesser minerals.

Completely false. Your statement is assuming people are eating ONLY one cut of meat and not including organs. Eating an oz of liver a day in addition to meat covers all of your vitamin needs and wants.
On the other hand a vegan diet is wildly unhealthy because the nutrients are not complete or bioavailable (such as plant protein)

I studied horticulture after high school. I remember on a tour of a extensive walled garden estate here in Ireland and we asked the head gardener how he kept the walk ways so clear. He said walk past them daily brushing into the growing plants, trees etc and they will inevitably start to avoid the interaction and shoot off in different uninhibited directions. Plants are wired to avoid us.

Thanks Dr. Chaffee! I've been strict carnivore for eight months. No cheating. I used to eat a lot of dark chocolate every day. A couple weeks ago I saw and bought a bar of 100-percent chocolate. No sugar, no dairy, no soy, nothing but chocolate. I ate two squares. Within an hour every joint in my body hurt and muscles felt sprained. This lasted for three days. That's enough proof for me to never try this again! I'm 74 and have no time for aches and pains.

Some just have built up a higher tolerance to the toxins in different foods. Some would argue this is good so that you can have more variety in the diet which is what I have a hard time believing. It has toxins but as long as I continue to include it in my diet then I do fine with it. Street drugs work the same way.

This is so interesting to me because I used to be a strict vegetarian back in the 90s and early 2000s, and after about three to five years of that I became extremely sick, and I think there are different reasons for it but when he said that some plants destroy your mitochondria that struck a nerve with me because I had severe chronic fatigue syndrome. And chronic fatigue syndrome is a mitochondrial problem! I literally wanted to die when I was sick with that illness because every system in my body was messed up. I was getting chronic infections, I could barely get out of bed every day and I was trying to work full time. I had hormone problems intestinal problems. You name it, and even neurologic symptoms that was suspect to be MS . Thank God I didn't have that Illness but when I began to eat meat again I did a complete turn around within 2 weeks after a 10-year disastrous illness! However I've gone back to eating less meat and more plants and I am having more health issues. Thank you for posting this video because I'm seriously considering going full carnivore.

One thing I notice about vegetarians/vegans is that the initial impact of the diet is very good for them usually because they lose a lot of weight and they lose it quickly and feel great because of it, but then you look at a vegetarian/vegan who has been at it for 2 years or longer and a lot of them start looking more and more emaciated, grayish/odd colored skin, weak and just overall sickly looking. I think I've read somewhere that vegetarian/vegan should really only be used as a weight loss diet for six months or so and not carried on as a long term diet. The longer you are on it the more sick you get. Now, I'm not a 100% carnivore myself, I'm not religious about it but most of my diet is meat, whole foods, or dairy and a big part of that is that I'm a weightlifter/bodybuilder so that's literally part of my fitness goals (eating big and lots of meat is as important as lifting the weight in the gym). I occasionally have junk on a weekend and I do like beer/alcohol so I'm definitely not trying to proselytize like this guy in the video but the whole veggie/vegan thing has always raised red flags for me. Just talking to someone or seeing someone who is veggie/vegan, they always seem unhealthy. it's like you can just see it or smell it in the air.

Me and my partner even set up a Organic Groceries business, so we could easily have the best fruit and vegetables available for our selves pluss friends and families.
In the last 5 years my health and training as been on the decline. I could not understand it im doing everything right. Or i thought i was been delving down the exact things this Dr is saying and it appears he's 100% correct from what ive found. Ive been adapting gently into carnivore because my issue was oxalates creating all sorts of autoimmune issues and if you come off them to quickly it can be very dangerous because of oxalate dumping.
Its a slow journey but i feel like ive been duped. Vegetables are not our friends.

What gets me is the “health” advice which is ubiquitous is “eat a large variety of fruits and vegetables.” We actually live in a bizarre ecosystem that gives us epigenetic signals that tell us that we live all over the world at all times, and it’s simultaneously all seasons all at once. @az stuff Cholesterol status isn't a reliable indicator of risk for developing CVD. If your arteries are on fire (metaphorically speaking) due to inflammatory responses triggered by numerous pro-inflamatory compounds (glucose, lectins, etc.) and pro-inflamatory metabolic pathways (poly- and mono- unsaturated fat metabolism) then you will find Cholesterol at the scene of the crime, but that is only because cholesterol is used by the body to repair damage to the arteries! Secondly Cholesterol itself can become damaged by the same pro-inflamatory compounds specifically the lipoprotein(a) that is present on the outer wall of the cholesterol. If you didn't know this is the key that the liver relies on to identify cholesterol as well, cholesterol! When lipoprotein(a) is damaged it causes a build up of cholesterol in the circulatory system, the body gets rid of it by shoving these damaged cholesterol into the arterial wall for later deconstruction, causing plaque to build up and stiffening the arterial wall.

I am not surprised to hear about the various plants having toxins. I have studied this in my various research on healthy eating. I am not effected by the various nightshades and think that everyone is different in their cellular makeup and their microbiome. Maybe some people can digest lots of different veggies and not get cancer and then some could be on a carnivore diet and get cancer. I am not so sure our bodies are so black and white. I think their is much room in between for diversity of our digestion.

It is possible to be a smoker and still feel good at 61, this shows that health depends on a variety of factors. The human body is complex and there is a variety of factors that effect our response to plants. However the evidence shows that plants for the vast majority of humans are carcinogenic and make us sick while meat has no downside and has better nutrition. Also there is no way of knowing you have the correct gene for a specific plant food without a genetic test and even then its likely the gene only provides a partial protection.

Thank you for featuring Dr. Anthony Chaffee on the channel! Among the pantheon of great doctors in the low carb arena, he has quickly emerged to be one of my favorites because of two reasons. First, he really embodies the efficacy of this way of eating. The guy looks like something out of a comic book. If the arguments for carnivore don't convince you, this man's impressive physique certainly will. Secondly, Dr. Chaffee has a talent for getting to - if you will excuse the play on words - the meat of the argument. He doesn't overcomplicate things. For someone unfamiliar with these concepts, Dr. Chaffee provides a very accessible primer on all things carnivore and low carb. I highly recommend his podcast - The Plant Free MD.

This is fascinating. I was trying to follow a plant based diet but after a really bad fatigue and stomach episode I consulted a nutritionist and it turned out I had sensitivities to many vegetables and legumes - especially nightshades (due to high lectins) , lentils and beans. This started me on a reluctant path of thinking maybe plants are not the benign things that we think they are. I must say the people on TH-cam who advocate the carnivore diet all seem to look healthier than the plant-based people. And it is interesting how children don't tend to like vegetables - and children are more intuitive and more in touch with their instincts. I didnt like vegetables as a child either. So, if humans are not meant to eat these plants - just who, or what, is? Because something will be, as everything is here on this planet for a reason. Hmm, maybe salad really is just 'rabbit food?'

A lot (many? Most?) Vegetables at the grocery store didn't exist 75 years ago, or at least not in presence form. Everything has been selectively bred. The wheat eaten today is not what Jesus ate.

      @tillwill3232 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Plants are trying to kill us, really? You really think vegetables are bad for you instead of healthy for you? They are the most important food source for most living things on the planet... How could it be that they are toxic then? Ofc it depends on the exact type of plant and the amount you consume but thats about it.
If plants are really so bad for you and you as a carnivore dont eat any plants and only meat then do you realize that you are eating animals that eat plants, herbivores...? So these herbivores consume the toxins from the plants and then you eat their meat, so if the plants were so bad then youd still consume them through the animals.
I fully agree with cutting out processed foods and the keto way of avoiding stuff like bread and pizza and noodles and whatnot, but why the flaming of the vegetables I do not understand.
Also honestly it would disgust me if we were to be living in a world thats designed in a way that the only healthy way to live and survive is to kill animals and eat them.
Lastly I want to mention that if you search in youtube for "vegan diet changed my life" you will find countless of videos too and the comment sections are all also flooded with positive comment about how the diet changed their life. So how on earth can this be possible might the rational person be thinking. Is one side lying about their diet being good? But then why is there so many positive comments about the diet? Heres my thought: Maybe, just maybe, there isnt ONE solution and ONE diet, and different things work for different people. And maybe (certainly) there is harmful foods but those arent plants or meat in general, but processed foods etc.

As I stated in my comment, we as humans are the only species on this planet that cooks its food, killing the enzymes in the process. If we ate our food raw, what food would you eat ? Grains are not a natural human food. All seeds and nuts have enzyme inhibitors that prevent the seeds from sprouting before it’s time. Soaking is the only way to remove these enzyme inhibitors.
Humans are not designed to be carnivores. You mentioned children using instinct. What would a small toddler do with an apple and a mouse? What would the baby do, try to bite the apple or bite the mouse?

    • @Tony-un3vf
      @Tony-un3vf 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The real human food is fruit. Humans are not carnivores nor are we herbivores. We are fruit eaters. Fruit is the easiest food to process as it usually only stays in the stomach for about 15 minutes. Bananas can take up to 45 minutes because they contain less water. Fruit is actually digested in the small intestine. Our salivary gland’s produce enzymes that break down sugar. Carnivores don’t have these enzymes.
Now, it is true that Eskimos lived on primarily meat and the only plant derived food they consumed was from what was in the gut of the animal they killed such as caribou.
However, Eskimos ate their meat raw. In fact, they would actually let it putrefy on purpose until it would turn into a soup. This conserved their enzyme bank account.
Now, consider another culture some would call a lost civilization but they are not lost.
I’m speaking about the indigenous people in South America. The jungle tribes who still live in the jungle separate from civilization. What do they eat? Do they survive on a fruit diet or whatever they can find? I’m sure they are not afflicted by the same diseases that afflict civilized societies today. I’m sure they have no cancer, no diabetes or heart disease.

After two months of my newer eating habits, i dropped about 60 pounds of excess fluids and body fat, and reversed pretty much every health problem that plagued me for decades, including the COPD symptoms. I feel healthier and stronger than i did 10 years ago. I have been doing pretty well with how i have been eating, and if i change anything from now on, it will be adding more animal fats and proteins, and less veggies / nuts and see how that goes.

Dr. Chaffee- When my daughter was young she was diagnosed with oral allergy syndrome. I learned that during some growing environments, plants were more defensive than under different conditions (temps, sunlight, dirt & water toxicity, pH, undesirable weather conditions.. ) These plant growing conditions affected plant "protein" behavioral defenses & had their effect on my daughter's lips, skin, sometimes lasting up to 10 days. One of her worst offenders were combinations of exposure to high birch pollen in the air mixed with eating apples, pears, apple pie, applesauce, ice pops, made with those fruits. We were told that birch pollen "protein" was similar to that of apple & pear so they were in the same "family". We were not eating organically back then but I can say she is a healthy young adult that "grew out of" that diagnosis. I appreciate this teaching.

I started filling my mouth and leaving the table on the premise that I was going to the bathroom and I'd spit it all out! I believe now that my body was rejecting them. My mom was patient and tolerant to a point, but like all moms she wanted me to be 'healthy' and based our meals on the new Food Guide that was in full swing by the late 1960's. She was an advocate for REAL food though and only allowed us to have candy on Saturday which included all the sugary cereals that she called JUNK CEREAL as early as the 1960's! Shopping with her in the 60's and early 70's was always an education too. She would pick up packages, examine the ingredients and proclaim "This is NOT real food. If you can't pronounce what's in it, don't eat it." Love ya Mom! Happy Mother's Day 2024.

I have noticed that the more I stop eating plants the better I feel. And lately in USA most of our plants and grains have been genetically altered to have more oxalates, phylates and chemicals in them and on them. I used to eat vegetables. I simply cannot eat most anymore. GMOs, roundup, pesticides, and our country has allowed triple the amount that was stopped just 5 years ago. I am no longer diabetic, lower blood pressure. I am off my medication too. Carnivore was a crazy idea to try . Now I am happily staying this way. Thank you Dr Chaffee

Why are people scared of the likes of phytic acid, which has numerous health benefits in the diet?
"The published peer reviewed literatures searched showed that phytic acid, though an anti-nutrient, plays an indispensable role directly or indirectly in several disease conditions.
It exhibits antioxidant function, a property that qualifies it to possess multiple medicinal values like: anti-diabetic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory properties to mention a few.
Its chelating property affects the absorption and toxicities associated with essential and nonessential heavy metals, a scenario that could prevent neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson diseases and other related diseases.
The medicinal values of phytic acid outweighed its negative impact."
This is definitely an eating disorder this carnivore nonsense. Don't get me wrong many of these individuals have genuine intolerances and issues, but many don't and the fear that drives this nonsense is based on pseudo-science.
It's one thing being scared of nutritional compounds which can actually result in poor health, but being terrified of nutritional compounds which largely confer benefits, as I say carnivore is an eating disorder at this point for most of these people.

    • @anthonychaffeemd
      @anthonychaffeemd ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@TheNaturalHealthBlogger phytic acid is only one of thousands of chemicals in plants, so you're cherry picking. Even if phytic acid was good for, that didn't mean all the others are. There's phytic acid in hemlock too, does that make it for for you overall? Of course not. Take phytic acid in a supplement if you think it's so good. But in reality, all of the benefits there come from chelating heavy metals and toxins IN PLANTS, but if you don't eat the plant, you don't need the chelating agent. And just saying it's an antioxidant doesn't actually mean it's helpful in those disease process (all of which are caused by plants) so you really haven't made a very good case here, and neither did whoever you copy and pasted that from.

@@JanoyCresva-bu1gw I agree - it is important to do what you can and not be binary about this, for sure, at first. I have heard this from multiple sources, including those that are keto. The vast majority of issues from toxicity or processed foods has to do with the amount ingested.

If you want the truth what diet is healthy and will make you live a healthy long life going by the data of the last 200 years don't listen to the presentation because it's is full of cherrypicking and misleading by not mentioning facts about veggies and fruits.
      1. Why Is the Carnivore diet so beneficial for some or even many people?
..because you avoid sugar in high dosis. That is the main reason. Many health problems are related to sugar. When you stop eating sugar on carnivore diet and only consum sugar in natural form like in meat you will automatically notice improvements. Same would happen if you would only eat veggies and avoid sugar.
      2. People who have a deficit in e.g. collageen, B12 vitamin etc., because of avoiding or not eating enough meat will see huge benefits with carnivore diet but that is not the majority of people.
      3. Take a look on the asian countries like Japan. They all eat fresh plants/veggies , sea fruit and some meat. Japan have one of the longest life expectancy! Look up for "Ogimi" town: th-cam.com/video/8QXS5e8j-XE/w-d-xo.html
Don't let you mislead by the presentation! A balance diet eating fresh veggies, few fruits (many have to much sugar!), little bit milk products but also meat is they key here.

Was gaining wait no matter what diet I tried and never had energy to workout. I’ve been eating carnivore for just three days now and in that short time ALL of my back pain is gone, I have no cravings I feel full and I’ve had energy to go to the gym! I’m excited about how quickly I’m seeing results and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I’m logging everything I eat, my workouts and Other factors and in a couple months I’ll be making a video with some before and after photos and a breakdown of all the numbers. Just three days ago I was 280+ pounds, last night I was 276, already loosing weight in just three days!

Four and a half years ago I went on the keto way of eating, which then meant at least seven cups of vegetables per day. Seven cups a day....I like vegetables a lot, but that would be as much as I would normally have consumed in a month! My body went into full-blown rebellion, and now there is not one vegetable that I can eat without serious repercussions. Of course, stubborn me, I kept thinking it had to be me, it was my "fault" that my body couldn't process all the vegetables and the few fruits I was still eating (I really only like apples), so I tried hard to make myself think all the right things to overcome something I now know was far past my puny mental power.
Tomorrow, Sept. 12, I'm starting carnivore. I've emptied my kitchen of all the wrong foods---the vegetables, the nut flours that I thought all this time were "just fine," the cocoa powder I thought was ok to use in various keto desserts, the sweeteners....they may not be sugar, but they're most definitely plant-based, every one of them. I've had to give up coffee and tea, both of them making me cough for hours after drinking them---but they're plants, too, so my body really and truly is on the defensive against all plants, and is forcing me to eat right.
I'm already well stocked with meats, fish, eggs, cheese, heavy cream (I do want to try Dr. Kiltz's iced cream---carnivore recipe, him being a carnivore eater---not ice cream as there's no sugar/sweetener in it), and butter, so am off to a good start.

I am trying a low-carb diet to stop seizures, (around 20 - 25 a year) caused by a blow to the left temporal lobe in 2004 through Domestic Violence. I did research into Keto but was told Atkins or specific low carbs can help stop seizures. I am praying as I stopped the meds 10yrs ago as they were not working or causing side effects. The Drs have been trying to get me to try Keppra again but I am trying everything possible to stay off these drugs as they can cause seizures as well. That does not make sense to me, I have also stopped alcohol along with sugar & most bread.

Try to find a dietician who knows how to apply a ketogenic diet for seizures (eg in epilepsy). It’s a very high fat type of keto. I think the ratio of fat to protein (in terms of calories) is something like 4:1. Also know as a “therapeutic ketogenic diet”. A knowledgeable dietician would be the most efficient help, I think. Or Dr. Annette Bosworth (Florida), or maybe even The Charlie Foundation?
