After playing this game for a week, this is a genuinely funny video. Control is super sandboxed and the designers.... well they control the environment but they do it in a way that makes the player feel like they are ultimately powerful. It feels like you could bring the entire damn building down, the way everything is so destructible. If you haven't played the game yet... you will quickly be completely destroying corporate offices like it's a regular thing. It is such thing that you occasionally look back at a room after a fight and knock over that one last table that for some reason is left standing. Control doesn't like offices... lol wtf
Control is a very well done game - Overall good graphics, good story and fun gameplay. I like your review, my biggest noticable complaint: some of the npc facial expressions and animations kind of reminds me of Mass Effect: Andromeda and could use updating. However unlike ME:A, this game has a story/gameplay that makes any complaints seem trivial. It's clear developers put a lot of effort into this game and wanted it to be great, I'm sure they'll put a lot of effort into their updates as well.
Just finished the game after a handful of intermittent sessions. I kept putting it down because it was such a terribly executed and boring story. Gameplay was okay, shooting, flying around and throwing stuff was fun. But the story, map and level design, checkpoint system, character models and graphics were some of the worst I've seen this generation. No idea why it has gotten so much praise. It's a solid 4/10 for me. I definitely won't be playing it again. Luckily I got it for 50% off.
Micro stuttering only occurs with certain Ray tracing features turned on. If you really have issues, play in DX11. Im playing in dx12 with 2 of the 6 ray tracing features on at 2K and max settings, and its incredible. The game starts off slow with the usual 1 hour tutorial and story prologue, but then....the game starts to blossom and unlock. and it becomes incredible!

When things get tricky. The shield actually helps. Plus if you upgrade other stuff first and do side mission upgrade missions, you WILL unlock the ability to launch the shield.
the level design is amazing. like you look at certain aprts of the scenerey and you have no clue later u can reach there. it reminds me of those times when in a 2d sega game we ewre trying to figure out whether we can reach a platform or not! It also reminds me of Half-life and Prey 2017
This game IS PHENOMENAL!!! The environment destruction, the RAY-TRACING, the weapons/powers, the entire concept as a whole... AND.... the "Ashtray-Maze"!!? Omfg WHAT?!!! The Ashtray Maze was a crazy surprise that totally kicked ass and knocked it out of the park. The second Jesse put on her headphones and the maze got into motion I kept thinking to myself that this is one of the greatest things I've seen in a long time in a videogame. I wish it would have went on for an hour.

It only took me less than a week to get Platinum on the PS4 with this game, but I loved every second of the game. I'm a metroid/vania fan so that may be one reason, but the combat was solid. Also the story I loved, I just crazy mind F#@K stories, so I collected/read every thing in the game.

Control really needs a skill level setting like they did in Allen awake. Because I suck and there are two bosses I cannot get past which screws up the entire storyline
Did you beat them? It does have loads of difficulty options now. You can even do invincibility or one shot kills and it doesn't mess up trophies as well as sliders to set difficulty how you want it really.
Not a difficult game? Have you battled some of the bosses? A couple of them are pretty solid especially since you lose 10% of your currency every time you die. I hope in the next game they remove the part around losing currency. Other things aren't too bad overall though.
I might be remembering this wrong, but I *think* there's an option in the accessibility section that lets you choose how much currency you lose when you die. I knocked that off and had a much better time playing the game afterwards! - Liam

"A looter shooter for the impatient." Yes! I'm trying different builds in replays because the game just whizzes by. I'm on my 5th playthrough, and it's still fun.
I really hope the sequel opens up the world more, would be so fascinating to see how the hiss can effect the environment and explore other places that are as trippy as FBC, not to mention the wider spaces Jesse could manipulate & wreak havoc in.
I may be totally blind but I keep getting board countermeasures about using weapon Modes (not mods) and I can’t find anything about them in game or online. Could you point me in the right direction?
The modes are the different forms, I think? Like grip/pierce/shatter, etc. It will give you countermeasure before you have unlocked required things - you can accept them and then cancel to get new ones (if I remember correctly).
Nervous about my 2080 super being hampered by my i7 6700k with this game :(. I want Ray Tracing but that hitching is definitely due to the RT features.

Okay. I’m about 2 to 3 hours in and wow. You are right it is a destructive sim from hell. I have wrecked many an office space, but not mine..causes it’s mine. It is a slow burn kind of a game. I have a couple powers, 2 weapon forms and a few nice mods. Slowly discovering the story...which is amazing, it’s interesting, it’s weird in all the right ways. I’m running the game on a laptop with a 1060, with most settings on med and it still looks great and I’m hovering in the 60fps range so that’s great. I am NOT a fan of their button layout and have reconfigured most expect the standard movement keys...I have a Naga trinity and am using the 7 side button config and it’s perfect. No crashes at all. Am enjoying the crap out of it and if you excuse me I have to go throw a hiss around. (Is that still a hissy fit?)
Okay way more in, but no idea how far and no,spoilers. The pacing of the story is great, the reasonably free rein to explore is nice and rewarding. I found my first fights awkward and non productive (insert joke here) but even not fully powered up I love the options I have. My only minor quibble is the limit to two active loadouts at a time, occasionally annoying, not a deal breaker. The story has its hooks into me.
I'm having a hard time with this game. I'm around 7 or so hours deep and I find it very fatiguing and repetetive. Maybe its the similar locations in most places, idk, but its very tiring and hard for me to play for more than a couple hours at a time. Idk, I'll keep pushing and see if i start enjoying it more.
She is definitely a right-handed, It could be great if she could use both hands or even the left hand from time to time, in despite she is using the left hand in the cover? what a heck??? it gets monotone rapidly.
I can't help but find this a dull game. Repetitive gameplay, the dripfeeding of a story that is not in my opinion a story, the revealing of the history of a character that seems to be unable to actualy go anywhere, and graphical excellence that is subservient to being a muted office colour pallet for 95% of the game (with only one excellent visual setpiece that I can remember after completing it in just over a week).
It's perfectly self-contained, although there are some fun nods to the wider Remedy universe. Probably worth playing Alan Wake either way as it is fun.
I probably would have bought it day one if now for the silly numbers over the enemy heads. So much for immersive games these days. Gotta pound the AR concepts into the masses.
Lol I finished the game playing with only health, energy , mission marker, and aiming reticle enabled only to find our later that enemies had different levels too
@@rockpapershot the game took too long for me to take to its style, the way she just walks in and the guys dead on the floor and doesn't bat an eye. I get that stuff had gone on before but as the player you're thrown in and Jesse is just talking to 'herself' it just felt kinda cringworthy at first. When things become more clear and the story and abilities progress i enjoyed it a lot more though. For me though AWs story and characters were a lot more engaging. I really like the combat in that too but I could see why you might find it repetitive though

It's the complete opposite. Exploring the world's many interesting corners and piecing together the lore through the many documents and video files is absolutely the best part. And that's not a part of the game you get through reviews.
I wanted a game, a proper Alan Wake sequel or a proper Max Pain sequel which would make us forget that MP3 ever existed. Instead, I get a "look what our new engine can do" demo and a RayTrace "look how pretty I am". As much as I hate IKEA (actually, I don't but its something "edgy" to say in an age without values, I guess), I prefer my stories to have at least some semblance of the building blocks of proper narrative. Oh, and a bit of slightly challenging gameplay would also be appreciated. This, whatever this is, feels more like a demo for a shinny new Engine than like a story which I want to explore. Is it fun? Yes, very, but for a very short time. After all, how many rollercoaster rides can you go on before it becomes old (boring)... Very fast? Cheers.
But I think the story shows way more maturity in the way it is told - not just cutting to cut scenes and allowing you to piece it together from back story and smaller details. It's a much more interactive story in this way. (Although I agree with you about MP3.)

The closest thing I’ve played to a new Half-Life game in atmosphere and storytelling. This is a classic. Incredibly underrated.

Shield Rush seems to have flown under some radars in this game. It's incredibly satisfying...and strong, very strong.

The motion blur is so bad, needs a patch to turn it off
On pc there's a mod to turn it off
I felt the same way when I got a hard as fuck to reach box n got a random non special personal or weapon mod instead of a skilled reward.

Okay way more in, but no idea how far and no,spoilers. The pacing of the story is great, the reasonably free rein to explore is nice and rewarding. I found my first fights awkward and non productive (insert joke here) but even not fully powered up I love the options I have.
My only minor quibble is the limit to two active loadouts at a time, occasionally annoying, not a deal breaker. The story has its hooks into me.

I loved the Evil Within. Very different game. Much harder than Control - a survival horror instead of power fantasy.

I'm having a hard time with this game. I'm around 7 or so hours deep and I find it very fatiguing and repetetive. Maybe its the similar locations in most places, idk, but its very tiring and hard for me to play for more than a couple hours at a time. Idk, I'll keep pushing and see if i start enjoying it more.
She is definitely a right-handed, It could be great if she could use both hands or even the left hand from time to time, in despite she is using the left hand in the cover? what a heck??? it gets monotone rapidly.

I can't help but find this a dull game. Repetitive gameplay, the dripfeeding of a story that is not in my opinion a story, the revealing of the history of a character that seems to be unable to actualy go anywhere, and graphical excellence that is subservient to being a muted office colour pallet for 95% of the game (with only one excellent visual setpiece that I can remember after completing it in just over a week).
This is actually gonna be my first Remedy game. Would you recommend their othef titles like Alan Wake before playing this one?
It's perfectly self-contained, although there are some fun nods to the wider Remedy universe. Probably worth playing Alan Wake either way as it is fun.

Lol I finished the game playing with only health, energy , mission marker, and aiming reticle enabled only to find our later that enemies had different levels too

All these games take place in the same game world. Alan Wake is touched on in the collectables you pick up in game in Control.
If you would stop talking once in a while, you could have shortened that video to 25% length and still have shown everything relevant...

Alan Wake is very different. Have huge affection for that world and character, but found the action too one note.
@@rockpapershot the game took too long for me to take to its style, the way she just walks in and the guys dead on the floor and doesn't bat an eye. I get that stuff had gone on before but as the player you're thrown in and Jesse is just talking to 'herself' it just felt kinda cringworthy at first. When things become more clear and the story and abilities progress i enjoyed it a lot more though. For me though AWs story and characters were a lot more engaging. I really like the combat in that too but I could see why you might find it repetitive though

Idk this seems like the type of game that if you have seen the reviews then you have no need to purchase this game.
It's the complete opposite. Exploring the world's many interesting corners and piecing together the lore through the many documents and video files is absolutely the best part. And that's not a part of the game you get through reviews.

I wanted a game, a proper Alan Wake sequel or a proper Max Pain sequel which would make us forget that MP3 ever existed. Instead, I get a "look what our new engine can do" demo and a RayTrace "look how pretty I am".
As much as I hate IKEA (actually, I don't but its something "edgy" to say in an age without values, I guess), I prefer my stories to have at least some semblance of the building blocks of proper narrative. Oh, and a bit of slightly challenging gameplay would also be appreciated.
This, whatever this is, feels more like a demo for a shinny new Engine than like a story which I want to explore.
Is it fun? Yes, very, but for a very short time. After all, how many rollercoaster rides can you go on before it becomes old (boring)... Very fast?

But I think the story shows way more maturity in the way it is told - not just cutting to cut scenes and allowing you to piece it together from back story and smaller details. It's a much more interactive story in this way. (Although I agree with you about MP3.)
