The dedication of the award to Christopher Reeve hit me very hard. Immediate tears. I really miss these guys. I know the world misses them. We could really use our Superman and Clown right about now.
What a mix of joy and sadness to see Robin Williams. I wish that the laughter and happiness he brought to the world could be converted in the love he needed to strive and defeat his own demons. We miss you so much, genius. Rest in peace, beautiful soul.
When you have depression it’s not that easy you know he was loved us his family nobody loved him but when you have depression those demons so therefore I tell you that you’re better off gone and dad I deal with depression every day and those demons always try to sit there and make me hurt myself you know I’ll try to convince me that there’s nobody around and then as you feel so alone it’s really hard to explain to people with depression you know I can kill you and sad depression is a real thing and it takes lives
Super intelligent? Not really. But in Robins case he was brilliant. To make the observations Robin did were brilliant. Most comedians, like most people, are not brilliant or intelligent for that matter.
I agree :) a great comedian has to be smart and has to have knowlegde about the world and people in order to touch the souls and to make everyone laugh! That truly was Robin Williams. RIP may peace be upon him and may his family and loved ones always be happy. We love you Robin. You will be missed..
I used to watch Robin with my dad and older brother. A quiet man, but nobody made him laugh harder than Robin. Such joy to experience as kids. My brother passed away suddenly aged 25, dad a few years later aged 55. I still cry from laughter, but the tears are different.
when Chris reeves and robin williams were students together at Julliard, they became best friends. they made a promise to each other that if anything bad ever happened, that they would take care of each other. When chris became paralyzed from the neck down, and was in the hospital, robin williams stood by his promise and flew to the East Coast and gave his family money to pay the medical bills so they wouldnt have to worry. Chris died several years later, and Robin supported his friend throughout his illness and incapacitation for all those years.
I also heard that after Chris was paralyzed, one day Robin bursted into Chris’ hospital room, introducing himself as a Russian proctologist, to cheer his friend up.
This. Robin was such a beautiful, spirited, kind and genuine human being. What I love the most about him is heart--it's as big and as deep as the Marianas Trench. ROBIN WILLIAMS! Robin has an incredible comedic brain. He says incredibly funny things, he does impressions, he can be 10 people in five minutes. Robin is one-of-a-kind! One of the funniest man ever!
Can you see the absolute Joy on people's faces when he's cracking jokes No comedian I guarantee you no comedian ever gets that response from a crowd. It's like pure unadulterated joy, not just laughter
That moment at 2:27 tho 😢 both Robin Williams & Jim Carrey started out as a comic and they've come such a long way to finally be acknowledged as an actual actor, making this whole appreciation at the Globes for even much more meaningful than just another award to collect, not just for Robin alone but apparently for the entire comic community. Looking forward to see Jim's turn to finally receive his Globe/Oscar onstage one day.
Robin studied theatre, for three years (1970-1973), then trained as an actor with Christopher Reeve at the Julliard School (1973-1976) before he turned to stand up comedy.
It's 2020 I still look at this every now and then for a laugh, when he past this world got a little less funnier, one of my favorite comedians of all time.
It hurts me everytime I watch Robin. He's soul was of pure gold, always wanting to see people happy and smiling. Such a great and truly sad loss. Miss him ❤️
Let's not exhaggerate, it's not like Robin had been depressed for decades. In the last few years of his life, a neuro-degenerative condition (Lewy Body) basically stopped his brain from working properly, provoking depression and uncontrolled nervous reactions, and it was misdiagnosed as Parkinson's disease. The combination of his brain malfunctioning and the (false) prospective of further uncontrolled degeneration, pushed him over the edge. Before the condition hit him, he was not depressed.
Sophia Adcock, I couldnt watch any of his films for nearly 2 after he passed, It was too sad. Now I can and its all good. Always enjoyed any interviews and awards as he just comes up with funny stuff so quick and always have a good laugh and never a dull moment when theres a microphone put in front of Robin
Mr HunterF Yes he was. He was very aware of the fact that it was a privilege that he was able to make people laugh as his profession. To act and to make people laugh was his love and his passion. And he knew that he was the best at it. In an interview with james lipton he said that the reason why his mind was so quick was: that he was always aware that his profession was to be an actor. And to be an actor was to be other people. That was the secret why he could invent 50 characters in a few minutes on spot, because he loved it to play other people. He wasn't sad at all inside. And his strength in comedy and his biggest love and joy and his drive and inspiration was to create something new on spot. That was his brilliance that was his genius. To create a moment that is funny and humorous and to use this new creation to create the next joke and the next and the next and all in the moment and totally spontaneous. I recommend you to find the DVD where he's in the actors studio and is interviewed by James Lipton. There he explains everything, his whole life, upbringing, his parents, his time when he learned acting until his first success and so on. He invents a lot in the show on spot. Involves every young beginning actors that are the audience. Everyone is rolling on the floor with laughter until the tears come out of their eyes. And he explains to them how it works the creating of comedy on spot. This interview is a gem. You will never get to know Robin more intimate and close than in that interview. The famous James Lipton has to raise his hand like a student in school to be able to say a word. Because Robin is so quick that James could hardly intervene when Robin had his runs. No he wasn't sad inside for he knew that most people are not able to do as their professional what they love to do most. Most people rather have a quite boring life and a boring job and are stuck in general habitual living above all those that work in factories at an assembly line. Robin was a great star and a great idol. One of the best actors the world has ever seen with the rare gift to make you laugh and cry at the same time who was very aware of that. How could he be sad on the inside? He achieved much more than an average human, was a star in hollywood movies and the quickest stand up comedian the world has ever known. His sad ending was not because of his depression. Depression was part of it but not the main cause. The main cause of his suicide most probably was the side effects of the combination of the drugs he had to take. Some drugs he took can cause suicidal thoughts because of the huge influence on the biochemical processes of the brain. If I remember well than even his wife said in an interview that it was the effect of the drugs.
He was fine. He got a very specialized kind of dementia, tried to deal with it, and got out while he still could. He took the smart and brave way out as far as I'm concerned.
***** *The kind of sheer energy and creative intelligence that literally electrified audiences all over the world. and a big, BIG heart too.* I think also that it can be said that he bravely fought "many demons" along the way. rest in peace weary warrior.
It's so sad that Robin Williams was able to put a smile on the world's face, except for his own. He put a smile on mine even when I was feeling at my worst. I hope I get to see you in heaven cause I know you're there cheering my mom up. RIP Robin Williams and Thank You for the memories
I still cry, whenever I see these videos of the beautiful Robin Williams. It's 05/09/2021 and today is Father's Day here in Australia. My darling dad, was a Greek immigrant and loved Robin Williams as much as we kids did; even though, at times he didn't understand Robin's rapid fire wit, he loved him, that was a testament to Robin's talent. My dad's birthday was 10 August and Robin died on 11 August, so each time I think of my dad, I can't help but think of Robin too. Time flies, it's already 19 years since my dad died aged, just 65 in 2002. And now in the blink of an eye, 7 swift years have passed since we lost this legend. Robin was yes, an extraordinarily gifted comedian...but like my darling dad, what I miss the most is his humanity, his goodness, his empathy and his generous, kind and selfless spirit. Aside from Robin's rapid physical degeneration, he was also struggling to make ends meet financially. Here is a man who paid all of his best friend's, Christopher Reeve's (Superman's) massive medical bills and yet, towards his own final days, he was struggling. It is so heartbreaking and such a tragedy. So a raise a glass to you my darling dad and to you Robin, "Captain, my Captain…" RIP 😔💔🍷🍷 Here's a sad but insightful read about dear Robin. www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2018/05/robin-williams-death-biography-dave-itzkoff-excerpt/amp
It always brings me a smile and laughter every time I see Robin Williams. This is so funny and touching. And love it how Johnny Depp, Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman, Michael Jackson, Jamie Foxx, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and some others that I might have missed, laugh in his speech. RIP Robin. You were the best.

You can see moments of Martin Scorsese laughing at Robin's jokes in both this video and Robin's appearance at Robert De Niro's AFI Life Achievement Award event...like, REALLY laughing. Makes me wonder what a Scorsese/Williams collaboration of any capacity would have been like, or if Scorsese ever considered him for a film role.
However, I'm not sure it was due to the depression that killed him. Only a few months before this his best friend, Christopher Reeve, the marvelous actor who portrayed Superman, died. The last sentence he says is dedicated to him
Some people say Robin was never the same after Chris Reeve died. They were like brothers and Robin never recover from that. Depression and pure sadness made his neurologic disease manifest and advance faster. I hope they are together now.
RIP, Robin..there will never be another like you. No one will ever come CLOSE. I loved how he mentioned the "Wifetime achievement" award, to his then-wife, Marsha. Eighteen years..she tried to hold it together but his addictions/depression got too much for her.
I don't actually find him hilarious, but he was a wonderful, _wonderful_ man. One of the most worthy men I've ever heard about. It's a shame we can't grant immortality for people like him to have their warm for longer.
Not because he just passed.... He is probably the most talented, genius comedian of all time, bar none. So many people use the word genius LOOSLY, in his case it is an understatement. You have to really pay attention to catch everything.
this is the first time i've seen one of his memorable comedic moments since he passed. although my laughter was tinged with a touch of melancholy, seeing him here reminds me what a great talent he was. he will be remembered for a long time. his exceptional talent will far exceed his final moment of despair. r.i.p. robin
Wow, so weird to see Prince & Arnold in the same shot lol really cool to see a cutshot to Jim Carrey, I always wanted to see Robin & Jim together in a film, I remember when I first got the news on my phone, I had to stare at that headline for nearly a minute to take it in and actually try to comprehend the news then just broke down. He was a father figure to all of us and the years of comfort, laughs and love will NEVER be forgotten! Rest in peace
R-I-P (Mork) Robin Williams and thanks for the memories. As an 11 year old i remember running into my house after school to see Mork and Mindy with my brothers, and as i grew i have seen so many great movies with you starring in them thanks for putting a smile on my face just by being You
I don't know how many times I have watched this speech. Brilliant comedian! #RobinWilliams If there is such a thing as heaven, I hope you are reunited with your friend, Christopher Reeves. Good night sweet prince, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!
So many feels. I never met him but I mourned him and he's the only actor that I have ever cried for. I hope sweet angels brought him to his rest and Chris Reeve
I love this clip...so gorgeous... great robin Williams, so funny, then Jim Carey, Johnny depp, Arnold shwertz, etc... I’m so happy I’m a kid of ‘81... good 90s..... I love and miss Robin Williams!
This man will hold a special place in most hearts who new him, probably because we weren't there for him when he was at his lowest like he may have been for us over the years.
I was doing a pet sitting gig two doors down from his house when he left us. I know he would always hire homeless people to be extras on a set to help them survive. He and Christopher Reeve were besties in the way only a few of us in this world have been blessed with. I hope they're up there just chillin. What a beautiful and complicated soul.
@@wisco9er536 ....he wasn't happy there for sure, but I don't think it had anything to do with Robin. Kudos and respect to everyone in that room that night. I don't actually find him hilarious, but he was a wonderful, _wonderful_ man. One of the most worthy men I've ever heard about. It's a shame we can't grant immortality for people like him to have their warm for longer.
Here was a man with a mind you could not keep up with. An amazing talent. Sorely missed.
Not because he just passed.... He is probably the most talented, genius comedian of all time, bar none. So many people use the word genius LOOSLY, in his case it is an understatement. You have to really pay attention to catch everything.
this is the first time i've seen one of his memorable comedic moments since he passed. although my laughter was tinged with a touch of melancholy, seeing him here reminds me what a great talent he was. he will be remembered for a long time. his exceptional talent will far exceed his final moment of despair. r.i.p. robin
what a legend. A great tragic loss for the world for losing him.
2:32 Man, Robin Williams and Jim Carrey. What a duo had they appeared on the same films as competing main actors.
R-I-P (Mork) Robin Williams and thanks for the memories.
As an 11 year old i remember running into my house after school to see Mork and Mindy with my brothers, and as i grew i have seen so many great movies with you starring in them
thanks for putting a smile on my face just by being You
How lucky are we all to have a Robin Williams during our lifetimes? The mas was a comedic genius.
He is with his buddy Chris now. Super comedian flying next to Superman. What a sight. RIP Robin.
I really like that he mentioned Jim. It is a shame that we never got to see them together in something.
Miss you Robin! We all were truly honored to witness your work! RIP
"Hey, Mork guy. Oh, did you have to walk to the private plane? Life's a bitch, come on let's go." 😂😂😂 I love that part.
...and that line was so funny. To me, anyway. Showing how humble and humbled he was. Never again. 💔
he's a funny wonderful man. rip Robin and Christopher
comedy is a thousand times more difficult to do than 'drama' ...all hail comics :)
well, I don't know if one is more difficult than the other, but one thing's for sure... Robin was great at both. :)
robing did comedy, drama, and horror .. and was fantastic at all ..
and may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, RIP Oh Captain my Captain
Some of the most iconic people in the world are in this room.
He made all of them smile.
He made us all smile.
Robin Williams: The Giant
I will always be heartbroken ove this.he was my childhood hero :( rest in peace legend.such an amazing talent
Goodbye Robin Williams - may you rest among the immortal greats of acting in peace
Rest In Peace Robin. You are missed every day.
RIP Robin Williams, You had the most wicked improv !!
The more I listened to him talking, the sadder i become as I realize that he is gone. RIP Robin
I don't know how many times I have watched this speech. Brilliant comedian! #RobinWilliams If there is such a thing as heaven, I hope you are reunited with your friend, Christopher Reeves. Good night sweet prince, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!
Thanks for posting this memory!
Omg everyone in the audience looks so young and it's been only 8 years
WRONG! 14 long years have past already since this award show.
@@decopiro83 Time flies, doesn't it?
Robert Pinter 15 now (:
@@decopiro83 Wrong! Its been 30 years now.
That's what someone from the future would say to you. Just wait.
Damn about 15 years now! Time flies 🥺
Here @ 2022 , ugh I miss him 😔
The World loves and misses you Mr. Williams. 😔💔
My heart breaks when I watch him. So talented, so loved and couldn't feel it. RIP
He did feel it. He had a disease - Lewy Body Disease - and didn’t like how he was not himself, and took his life before he could get any worse.
So many feels. I never met him but I mourned him and he's the only actor that I have ever cried for. I hope sweet angels brought him to his rest and Chris Reeve
Nice ,have you watch my movies before
god i miss this man. Met him in Vancouver BC decades ago.....such a humble, soft spoken, funny man. God Bless You Robin Williams , love you forever.
"We're a tad moody, isn't that right, Sybil?" "YES!!"
This is called foreshadowing. Goddamn, we miss you, kid.
that was quick and hilarious.....
I love this clip...so gorgeous... great robin Williams, so funny, then Jim Carey, Johnny depp, Arnold shwertz, etc... I’m so happy I’m a kid of ‘81... good 90s..... I love and miss Robin Williams!
Robin we miss you! You were a flash of brilliance in the lives of ordinary people
Greatest thing of youtube is that we will never forget legends and then we miss them we could spend all day here see them again, again and again.
This man will hold a special place in most hearts who new him, probably because we weren't there for him when he was at his lowest like he may have been for us over the years.
After all these years still can’t believe he’s gone, RIP
I was doing a pet sitting gig two doors down from his house when he left us.
I know he would always hire homeless people to be extras on a set to help them survive.
He and Christopher Reeve were besties in the way only a few of us in this world have been blessed with.
I hope they're up there just chillin.
What a beautiful and complicated soul.
How tragic it was to lose you, beautiful soul. Rob you're still missed, even more during these devastating quarantine days!
Prince and Robin Williams and a lot of people who were lost on the same place 😢
Prince looked really pissed at Robin
@@wisco9er536 That's just his resting face.
@@wisco9er536 ....he wasn't happy there for sure, but I don't think it had anything to do with Robin. Kudos and respect to everyone in that room that night. There can be a lot of politics going on in an arena like that, that we mere mortals are unaware. PRINCE was INCREDIBLY talented and did not get his due, and he was amongst artists who did not have HALF his talent, nor did he get to finish his own career but he didn't know that was coming. Hard circumstance to pull off. 💔
Miss you Robin. you were a unique man who made not only me but millions laugh. Gone but will never be forgotten. RIP
Who does not and could not LOVE the amazing talents and life and verve of brother Robin Williams.
I pray he made it to The Promised Land Above.
tragedy sometimes strikes the best of US.
i knew
i knew he was going to mention christopher Reeves. I miss you Robyn. God please welcome him into your home because he made so many people happy and he saw and felt so much pain.
Show him the happiness that he so richly deserves
He was such a genius. He made people laugh like nobody else. Heaven has a new Angel.
I just learned from a friend Robin Williams died of cancer :( omg so sad, what a bright star and amazing human being, loved his movies! RIP
