I was a Registered nurse in the US for 42 years. Three years was in a neuroICC, I witnessed it all. We had a teaching technique regarding how to perform certain procedures. Watch one, do one, teach one. It never left me. You emulate that philosophy. I recently retired to Italy, a full time resident. I left America behind for a life in a beautiful small village. No guns. I have struggled to learn the Italian language but tomorrow i have a lesson with my language tutor. Your video is so helpful, I will engage with your network because I believe her instruction along with your information will be a combined effort to make the most of this opportunity. Grazie mille.

Practicing the FAST method helped so much, I'm a senior software engineer and I kept skipping over topics in my interview studies because I learned them at some point in the past and it stressed me out to review them again. Now I'm re-learning and re-mastering these topics with a fresh mind. Thank you.

Three stages of studying: Before, During, After
    1. Before:
    - Begin with the end in mind: What are the outcomes of this studying?
    - Relax your by listening soft music
    2. During:
    - Avoid distractions: turn off cell phones, do not study in the bed
    - Manage time and energy using pomodoro technique
    3. After:
    - Active recall
    - Teach others people

Really helpful tips, thanks Jim. On a little note about brain fog, for some people, brain fog is not just about getting enough oxygen in their bodies. It is a bigger issue that can be very debilitating. Words and letters get mixed up, and sometimes reading comprehension is not even possible. Audio learning can also be impacted by brain fog. I wonder if there is a way you can express temporary lapses in concentration and learning because of oxygen or environment vs a debilitating condition so as not to minimize the impact brain fog has on those really struggling.

    PRINCIPLES OF EFFECTIVE NOTE-TAKING
    Be active.
Learning is an active process, not a passive one.
The same principle applies to note-taking.
Know your purpose. Knowing why you want to take notes will help you do it well and remember more.
Have a hierarchy. Have a way to prioritize what’s important.
Be organized. You remember better when the information is organized.
Use your own words. Other than not taking notes at all, taking notes verbatim is the worst way of taking note.
    Develop a system.
The best note-takers have their own systems, which improves the speed of their note-taking.
    Use abbreviations, symbols, etc.
Filter. Differentiate between what’s important and what is just fluff.
