I've had it two years and 50k miles and replaced the hatch handle ($35), a window motor ($70), the gas cap ($12), and rocker cover gaskets ($60). The rest is just maintenance stuff. Three BMW owner here - 740i Sport, 740iL, and 325ci convertible. They depreciate so well. (Depreciation is a gift from the Car Gods to us car guys.). Most repairs on them only need to be done once. I bought mine, all very nice, rust-free 2001s, with moderate mileage (80,000 average) and near the bottom of their depreciation curve. I have personally put about 100,000 miles on the trio in 6 going on 7 years. Buy them for 90-95% off of the original sticker price, fix them, love them. I feel like a know a secret way to buying really nice cars that few people seem to understand. Next on my list: a 750iL or maybe an X5.

lol..! Ditto, but on the bright side by mid-twenties stated chopping what little I had left DIY with a hair trimmer. Now in my 50's must have saved thousands in hair cuts..
There has got to be a way to source pumps that meet the same spec. My Volvo was broke down in the UP of Michigan and needed ;a pump. The only garage in this little town needed to order one and would be 4 days. I asked them to look up GM pumps for small displacement engines. They had a Pontiac pump that worked on 4 cylinder cars. They pulled the Volvo, I swapped the wires, they put it in. Drove it for another 100k.

Bought a 2000 740iL with really high miles about 5 years ago. I drove it to work everyday. Fixed any issues (there were many) myself and kept it on the road. The craftsmanship and luxury in that 20 year old car is amazing. My new car is a 2018 Challenger RT. I’d rather drive the BMW.

lol that is NOT true. I just returned my Toyota avensis that I leased in 2016, the worst car I have ever owned. Loud motor noise, crappy electric steering, too stiff and bumpy suspension, super cheap interior like door handles and such. And it broke down one time per year. After that I invested $2000 in my old e39 and now I have a fast and comfortable car that is better in every aspect, except for age. Oh yeah, my old bimmer uses less fuel also :)

Tyler, I just did a google search for "BMW 760 high pressure fuel pump" and I turned up several refurbished units for sale between $250 and $499, so you aren't totally screwed after all!
Those usually aren’t going to last long you know. Problem is they are expensive new because pump is engine specific so they are very rare and low production. So example 335i, same type of pump costs 800-900$ new and of course it is only one per car, not two.
Just a heads up anyone looking for a 2006-2008 BMW 750, it’s not as bad is it sounds if you’re mechanically inclined. Most of the work is workable for the newbie mechanic. The $5000 fuel pump he’s talking about could be bought for $300-$500 a pair. Not OEM but good enough for the life of the car. If you go to the BMW forums, you’ll actually understand how cheap it actually is to own. BUT!!! If you’re not mechanically inclined at all, it’ll be expensive. I’ve owned my 2006 750Li for 5 years and 90k KMs (50k miles approx). It hasn’t cost much more than my 2007 Accord and it costs less than my 2007 Avalanche (truck). It really is a nice car and you have to own one to actually appreciate the simplicity of it. There’s a bunch of electronics inside but the electronics don’t really fail. If it does, it’s likely an amplifier, alternator or battery replacement.
He wouldn't be able to make he usual dramatic "I'm and idiot for..." video if he bought the rebuilt/affordable pumps and/or did the work himself...same old same old...fake drama for youtube clicks.
Hi I am in the uk. I ran a 4.4 V8 E39 saloon that was 5 years old. I owned the car for 11 years and never had any expensive issues. Lots of BMW specialist here charging very reasonable prices. Apart from the main dealers that are extortionate.

But that’s it. Only German cars in America seam to be a pain.
I think maintenance is not too bad, especially if you do the simple stuff yourself (oil changes, filters, spark plugs etc). Repairs will cost arm and leg and more though.
R S well you say that, what the reality is, is that most of the German cars you have in the US are not made in Germany they are made in Mexico, and made badly by poorly trained workers. Where in the UK most out German cars are made in Germany and the rest in other EU country’s. And they just last so much better, with very little faults over there life time
It's a lot cheaper to fix the high pressure fuel pumps diaphragm than to replace the pumps. Summit racing sells the part(MP-9400-03 20 USD / side) that is needed.
Still wondering how it took BMW 20 years before they realized that running 2 ECU's, 2 of every sensor, 2 high pressure fuel pumps, 2 of basically everything was a bad idea...
Regarding the HPFP it’s a simple diaphragm replacement within each pump, can buy the kit for $250 and you don’t even need to take the pump outs to change

the N73 HPFP's share some internal stuff like the membranes with other, cheaper OEM Bosch parts for other brands (Ford, VW) so you could have them rebuilt probably.
Flies2FLL refurbished = sprayed w brake cleaner and resold
@@fohatadri Yup, they don't last...
Can you rebuild the fuel pumps?
There is a rebuild kit for the hpfp.
Rebuilt pumps are available fairly cheap.
That’s what I would think as well. The failure point is likely something insignificant inside the pump.

The price of owning a German car: exhorbitant maintenance costs. Just grin and bear it, I suppose.

Repairs will cost arm and leg and more though.
tren133 maybe spares are more expensive in the states, I don’t know, only guessing
R S well you say that, what the reality is, is that most of the German cars you have in the US are not made in Germany they are made in Mexico, and made badly by poorly trained workers. Where in the UK most out German cars are made in Germany and the rest in other EU country’s. And they just last so much better, with very little faults over there life time
For the cost of the fuel pumps one the 750 you can drop an LS4 in it. That goes for the B7 too.
I love this so much. Classic Tyler Hoover.
