I did start to wondering at the begging when loaded ..... and then I got it confirmed when it was adjusted..... Did once have a car swinging after me and that was scary..... did speed up to get it strait and then speed up some more.... and then I went driving upwards and the trailer got stable......
Kudos for stopping, fixing the trailer and accepting your limitations of knowledge. If only more of us would do this! Heavy loads are a fine art. I recently towed nearly 4000kg from UK to HR with my D3. Its was a dream pull and thank god I balanced it properly because my load wasnt so easily adjustable. If youre looking for a buyer for this D4 when you are finished, please get in touch!
I can't get over the price differenced between Germany and the US. Here that would be for sale for $2.500 and no one would buy it. Of course, it would have the 5 liter gas V8 with broken timing chains, but that's all we were offered here. Merry Christmas Christian and Vera!
I like the way she's smiling when he's talking about going to pick up the new car in the first minutes if the video. You are guys are so sweet! And congrats on the new nice LR4 it's nice!
I don’t own a Land Rover but I thoroughly enjoy your content and watch your videos religiously each week. Merry Christmas and a very happy and healthy new year to you Christian, Vera & Robin
Kaikoura is a small town on the North East coast of the South Island of New Zealand about 150 Kms South of where I am watching this from.. It is famous for whale watching. I'm not sure if they have any kind of special stone
LMFAO and almost burned myself with my coffee watching "Germens" load a Land Rover on a funny looking trailer with too small of a ramp, and a boat winch. OMG!
100% agree with the air suspension police !! Nice coverage talking about loading and towing. D3s are the best. Looks to be a very nice d4. Great LRtime video
Kaikōura Stone is from the town of Kaikōura in New Zealand. Kaikōura actually means "eat crayfish" in the native language of Te Reo Māori. Kaikōura stone is the colour of the stone found in the local area, often carved into jewellery. Kaikōura is also famous as an amazing whale watching location and an earthquake in 2016 which raised the see bed a few meters. It's a beautiful place to visit.
Having towed many trailers with loads of all kinds of loads, I have a couple of observations. Yes it’s way too far back. An other observation for trailers carrying vehicles, the ones with wider axles & a lower centre of gravity are a much smoother ride & will have less tendency to snake. Land Rovers with air suspension will self level so you can slightly over load the tow ball without the back of the towing vehicle dipping. Most importantly though. It’s great to see another LR Time project arriving on your driveway. 👍👍
Haven't watched all yet but that cranking tells a tale. Uneven compression there, maybe a valve or piston problems? Thank you for entertaining us all year with your magnificent videos. Your expertise is only overshadowed by your sense of humour. A great team and an inspiration. Thanks and have a wonderful Christmas. Nige
Merry Christmas to you Vera and Christian from Ricki and Kaz in the UK. I have learnt a lot about my D3 as well as had a good laugh at your German humour keep up guys. x
Merry Christmas Christian & Vera. Thank you very much for another great year of your entertaining and informative videos, my Sundays just wouldn't be that same without you!
I haven't finished watching the vid yet, but 3 minutes in I saw you push the load back a bit and I just knew. I did the exact same thing thirty years ago and crashed. Not enough nose weight. I wrote off two cars (mine and someone coming the other way). Fortunately no one got hurt.
Wishing you both, and Robin and Phillip, a very happy Christmas. You will be thinking of Spain and warmth for the next two weeks. Looking forward to watching the work on the new car. Best wishes from Birmingham, UK.
The practical limit for my LR4 is about 270kg without overloading the rear axle. That adds 390kg to the axle. I can't even carry my fridge in the back when towing my van with 2 people and minimal other luggage in the car. I really don't know how LR came up with the 350kg figure.
Happy Christmas to Christian and Vera and your extended family. Thank you for providing us with entertaining and informative videos throughout the year. Stay safe over the Christmas season.
16:20. Yes, very good point. However, we recently sold a Jaguar iPace (yes, before the 'new' Jaguar launch) and in addition to a full dealership service history we had one additional local garage service (changed air filter and checked fluids) before a MOT/TUF. The new buyer (a dealership) wanted to mark-down their offer price by 1,000 GBP because of this. I refused to sell it to him and found another buyer.
Kaikoura is in the north east of the south Island of New Zealand. Kaikoura is famous for whale watching. About 10 years ago, there was a big earthquake that lifted the whole area up about 2-3m. If you look east from Kaikoura you look over the southern Pacific Ocean and the next place South America.
Looking forward to a new build series! I noticed that there are no safety chains on the trailer. These are chains that connect the trailer to the tow vehicle in case the tow point fails. With all the regulations in Germany I thought this was quite strange. Maybe Australia is the only country that mandates these? You definitely had insuficient weight on the tow ball. The best way to stop sway is with electric brakes which you did not have. With electric brakes you brake the trailer without braking the car to slow down the trailer uding the override button. Sway starts when the trailer wants to go faster than the tow vehicle. Thanks for the video and Merry Christmas.
I cannot speak for Europe but certainly in the UK a breakaway cable is needed. This is a light wire cable which would put the trailer brakes on if it comes off the towing vehicle.
@@jbbumpkin Yes in Australia I think over 2 tonne we must have a breakaway cable that applies the brakes but in addition on any trailer of any weight the trailed must also be attached using two chains.
Nice score, really love this colour. Gunmetal wheels would look so much better instead of these depressing black ones. But thats just my taste. You have a great deal on this car because you are able to fix it. For most other people it's just a dead paperweight, to fix it commercially? No it would probably be a totall loss. That is to your advantage, because you have the skill to repair this to high standard in your own time. Looking forward to the coming episodes. And i don't own a LR! Have a great hollyday time and new year, Cheers from the Netherlands.
Awesome car, guys. Looking forward to the rest of this new series. My 2016 is relatively similar to this one, minus the e-diff and the electric seats (also mine has a so far good engine; changed the oil at 155k km, and no shiny bits in the filter). 10k km so far with no issues. Cheers!
It has the Heavy Duty tow bar on it. It is not only much stronger, but cheaper to buy than the ‘J’ type drawbar! The problem with the ‘J’ type is that they are easy to steal, whereas much more difficult if you have the Heavy Duty type fitted.
Well done in getting the loading sorted out on your way home. I am happy that you have saved another Land Rover as they are good vehicles as long as served well. Good to see Robin helping. Thank you Vera and Christian for everything this year. I wish you both and your family a Wonderful Christmas and New Year. I am looking forward to watch more next year. People say the Germans do not had a sense of humour, but you always make me smile every week.
I am no mechanic, but I do enjoy your love of Land Rovers. I am from the UK and used to own a Range Rover Classic. It was a lovely vehicle but too high maintenance for me. You should do one next? I own a 50 year old Triumph Stag. We are driving the Stag to Nuremberg in May for the bi-annual International Stag meeting. Come and see us there if you can? You will be impressed with the cars.
Excellent video, thanks for all the content throughout the year, brilliant technical explanations and the best humour between you both. Merry Christmas 🎄
Disco 4 has trailer stability control... But only when it detects your trailer with resistance on your trailer lights and doesn't work with LED lights. If you have LED trailer lights, you need to add some ballast resistors to simulate bulbs.
Happy Christmas from us in North Queensland, Australia, Toyota country and... it's not cold here at present, or ever. Have a great Christmas time Vera, Christian and your two sons. Congratulations on another addition to your LR fleet, no doubt looking forward to 2025 when we'll all get to find out what's bothering this brown LR4. Thanks for the hours of video entertainment.

Happy Christmas and all the best for next year Christian and Vera, Looks you have made a fantastic purchase and got a really good next project, looking forward to watching it all. Thanks for your brilliant content! All the best, David.
Yes a very good buy for you, but most people couldn't fix it , or afford to pay someone to do it. The sales man was very nice , and keen to help because he wanted to make sure it left the premises !! I know you will make a good job of it and will be a great car when finished. Another great video , this is my Sunday fix, my week will go well now!

Wishing you and your family a happy Xmas and New Year . ( You are certainly proving a point , about Land Rover Discoveries ( for that matter ) all Landy’s , they can last 😊 )
Your enthusiasm and energy is laudable. Why is the black Disco "Mall Crawler" being banished from the kingdom, and this Bronze Goddess being inducted into the fleet?
VERA AND CHRISTIAN your the best as its great to see you on ANOTHER land rover discovery 4, also your very good like a detective checking all the works that was done or not done on this discovery 4😊. A happy XMAS and a prosperous New year to you. ❤
When you use a heavy trailer on a disco 3/4 or range with original detachable tow hook, you best replace it by a fixed reinforced one… these original detachable ones can come loose after some years using it for heavy loads…
Ahh what a lovely colour Discovery, nice. Subliminally, it encouraged me to make a coffee to watch the video! Thank you for the weekly Sunday enjoyment, cars, Christian's wit and Vera's smile 😊 Merry Christmas to you too 🎄
Absolutely good choice you have to see the whole thing as a project and not as a turnkey and go purchase. I did the same with my Clk320 from Mercedes I saw the potential I figured out what I need to do and next month she's going to be restored ...I'll keep you posted and in the meantime I look in here every Sunday morning for C & V's great Landrover experiences 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Christian & Vera, I really love your video's and can fully relate to Christians "Brain" as I'm also an automotive engineer and like his way of doing things the proper way. Been working on them for almost 30y now as my hobby. I often pull similar trailers all over Europe with my Defender 110 300Tdi or more recently with my LR3 V8. Some tips for driving a combo like that: The Discovery can handle quite some hitch load ... 125-150kg is ok. To litte hitch load will cause the swerving you experienced. You can eye ball it by looking at the trailer tires like you did. Should look like to front one has a little more load on it compared to the back one. To much hitch load will result in to little load on the front wheels of the pulling car resulting in vague steering and poor braking. Not so noticeable on the Discovery because of the air suspension (but very much on a vehicle without it). Also check the temperature of the tires after about 15m of driving. A good indicator if the load on the tire is to high (different tire temperatures). The straps you used are better attached on the highest possible point of the wheel en attached as far as possible to the back (or front respectively) so it is less likely to loosen up while driving (less angle is less leverage is stronger if you know what I mean). I know in Germany you are supposed to fix 4 wheels to the trailer which in essence is a good thing but with a heavy vehicle like this I also put a few extra straps from the chassis to the trailer to stop the body roll. That drives a lot more comfy. The beefy trailor hitch is because the normal one can become sloppy in the hole ... and we all know nobody want's that 😂. Keep up the great video's and happy Holidays🎅 from The Netherlands
You Both are Amazing couples. Seriously ! Mr. Christian is a LR Guru. I wish i could send my LRD 4 2011 SDV6 HSE to you for repairs but your are in Germany and i am in Malaysia. 😔

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you Vera and Christian. I love the new project and it's a great colour too. I hope you and the family have a great break and we will all look forward to seeing LR time bring the pretty boy back to life😁see you next year. 🎄🎅
This is a great video demonstrating the towing issues you realised 👍 th-cam.com/users/shortsLbx1_sjXIfU?feature=shared I always tow with more weight on the towing ball👍
Hi guys Looks like we’ve got a winters worth of viewing coming down the pipeline , Thanks for all your hard work and videos , I enjoy each one , a nice Sunday afternoon here in Thailand watching you fix stuff , Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for the new year Regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭
All well within your capabilities, it would seem. It'll give you lots of nice content too. As for saving the car from the crusher and parts disassemblers, well done! Far too much stuff is wastefully scrapped imo, and with the TLC that Christian and Vera are about to provide, this LR has many more years of enjoyable usefulness ahead of it, hopefully with a far more respectful owner than the previous one!
I shall put my overalls on, sit by my computer and wait for the coming events on LRTIME. Another great video guys. Have a great Christmas and thanks for all your very interesting videos all these years.
That's the same colour as the Disco Sport i used to have, it also had the Black trim package, and it had beige vented leather seats... Mine was an HSE Lux, with a panoramic glass roof. Nice car, lots of toys, towing assistance camera etc, absolutely shocking service from the Land Rover dealership that sold me it...
I loved my freelander which we call LR2 in Canada. It had a beautiful Ford/Volvo in-line 6. The one big problem I disliked about it was that the body was not aluminum like other Land Rovers. Rust started to form on the wheel well. But I had to sell it because my wife is short and started to get hip and back problems and the LR2 is tall compared to other small SUV’s.
Well done guys glad you arrived safe always an issue balancing, the death wobbles suck especially in your cooler climate , nice buy indeed ! All the best from my family to yours Merry Christmas and happy new year happy motoring and stay safe in the silly season cheers
What a lovely purchase and no trouble for you Christian to repair this I am looking forward to this series on this car. Have a great Christmas both of you ❤

Always a pleasure to watch Vera and Christian. You both have a great Christmas.
Rule of thumb is 10% of your trailer load on the ball. In Australia the LR4 is allowed 350kg on the ball. 😊
Not sure what it is in germany, but in Norway its 150kg.
@MarkusAJ confusing isn't it

Yeah UK and Europe is 150kg... Which means you can't properly balance a 3.5t load. Ridiculous rules. Buy a strong hitch and forget the law!

I always tow with more weight on the towing ball👍
Hi guys
Looks like we’ve got a winters worth of viewing coming down the pipeline ,
Thanks for all your hard work and videos , I enjoy each one , a nice Sunday afternoon here in Thailand watching you fix stuff ,
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for the new year

Merry Christmas 🤗🙏🎅🎄🙋♀️
All well within your capabilities, it would seem. It'll give you lots of nice content too. As for saving the car from the crusher and parts disassemblers, well done! Far too much stuff is wastefully scrapped imo, and with the TLC that Christian and Vera are about to provide, this LR has many more years of enjoyable usefulness ahead of it, hopefully with a far more respectful owner than the previous one!
Another excellent video from you both. Wishing you a merry Christmas to you both. See you next Sunday. 🙏
I shall put my overalls on, sit by my computer and wait for the coming events on LRTIME. Another great video guys. Have a great Christmas and thanks for all your very interesting videos all these years.
Thank you Christian und Vera👍👍👍
You did the right move to adjust the position. Bloody scary when your horse float or trailer starts to fish tail! Definitely diaper territory.
Merry Christmas to you all! Keep the Videos coming!
This is a very exciting new project. Nice color also. Can’t wait to see how you will fix this one. Great job! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Oh wow, fantastic! Another major project car! Hooray. You are spoiling us! Thanks V, C and family, have a wonderful Christmas 🙂
