I'll really like you to read this, After doing the valve seals and you still get oil in the intake your problem is the supercharger, get it resealed. The supercharger is know for letting oil through after some time and that what's you saw, as for the engine it's made of Alusil and what causes the cylinder to score is the Oil weight and the thermostat opening temp too high, get a lower temp thermostat and use 20w40 or 20w50 oil and the scoring will be a thing of the past. The engine doesn't have to be that expensive the engine is a derivative from the N62 v8. The block is exactly the same, apina only used a custom piston to reduced the compression. Get the N62 block, transfer your rotating assembly (piston and crankshaft) use the alpina heads and you've got a sound engine. Sorry I'm just seeing this now, i would have been of help if i saw this years ago 😅
Cars like these fetch a premium with parts resealers. They don't go sit in a lot like your common high production cars. They immediately get broken down for components that are on demand lists. Hoovie probably got back what he paid for it and then the used parts supplier will make a profit on top of that.
Javier Hernandez when you polish cylinders you should change pistons. Not just new pistons, but a pistons new size. Because when you polish cylinders you are changing their diameter. And that changes space between piston and cylinders. That’s why polishing didn’t help for Alpina. This mechanic useless guy
I started watching this show off moron when he had 30k subs, and he has always admitted he is an idiot but he has a problem. now he is nearly at 1m. the loot is flowing in gotta spend it on something.
Keep up the good work, Hoovie. The BMW trap is so easy to fall into - we're seduced by the gorgeous sheetmetal and pure performance of these things, along with relatively affordable resale values. Then we crash on the rocks of reality and soul-crushing repair costs. It's so sad.
Just buy a seal kit and rebuild the supercharger , that’s your oil burning issue .. not the motor .. look at the amount of oil in the intercooler , that’s all coming from the SC
BMW's are pure garbage. Years ago I bought a "92" 5 series with 31000 miles on it. By the time it got to 67000 miles, the engine block cracked. You would have to pay me to drive one of these over engineered piles. They are pretty, but man, they have a bucket of built in breakdown installed.
@@Toasty644 he said a used engine runs about 8 thousand and a new supercharger is 11 so ya more than the car is worth. I am a BMW fanboy but an ls swap is something I could get behind 😉
Johnny is a great guy, and major props to Hoovie for taking TWO, mechanically totaled, cars completely out of circulation, so this same thing doesn't happen to others.
There was oil in the charge pipe when it was removed. I know the valve stem seals are a problem on these cars but it seems the more likely root cause (supercharger seals/bearings) was not even addressed.
Likely, the whole car is a piece of garbage, designed by incompetent "engineers" and built by even less competent ones. These problems are likely systematic, it is not that some things are crapped up, it all is. A systematic failure on wheels.
@Richard Harrold LOL no emissions/smog test in fly over country. As for belching smoke it will all blow away, as the old saying is its super windy in Kansas cuz Oklahoma Sucks and Nebraska Blows

That's how we are in rural New England as well. I've seen cars up here in VT that are half rust and burn a quart every thousand miles. Inspections have made them rarer though!
As they say, "there's nothing more expensive than a cheap BMW" Had a 2008 750 for two years. Loved that car, but spent $9000 on a bunch of minor repairs. Got rid of it before I had to replace the transmission and valve covers. Between repairs and depreciation, would have cost less to lease a new one.
alb12345672 yes they are! I have a 2008 Lexus LS460 and it’s been flawless for two years now. Just regular maintenance on the smooth V8! 130k miles now which is nothing for a Lexus. I also have an ES330 with 232,000 and it’s just as flawless. I wanna find a GS as well, preferably the 430 or 460 with the v8s.
Same, currently have a 2009 750li and I got quoted 5k for replacing 1 of my rear air springs. Not to mention the headlight bulbs on these things cost 80 bucks each lol. Super nice cars to drive. but expensive as hell to fix.

Sadly I had a great mech that retired 4 years ago. He wouldnt chard for time or parts if it didn't fix the issue. I'd feel bad for him too when he'd refuse payment. Sad maybe is the wrong word, he reassured me that he was a good guy, that loved his job and reputation. He was my mech for almost 20 years, cos I couldn't be bothered finding a new decent one, I just started leasing instead of buying 4 yearolds and getting 6 years out of them. Which is what Ive done since I dot my licence. It costs a bit more but I don't need a mech, peace of mind is nice, plus having a new car is alright.
He calls himself a mechanic an goes and hones an aluminum cylinder wall ruining the engine. He might be an honest part changer but not a real mechanic...
@@nicolascrescimone I agree. If oil is seeping past the rings, then you'd need to bore it and put in a new piston and rings. At the very least new, bigger rings. The cylinder wall was definitely worn down, I have no clue what would make him think the rings would somehow magically seat on a worn cylinder bore
I dont understand it either, does there no motor and s.charger repair companies exist in the us? I allways hear comments about bad tools americans use (the one who was state of the art in the 70s). It would take a couple of hours of autobahn driving to burn the residual oil out of the exhaust. Who knows how long the motor has been filling the exhaust up with oil! Take it for a proper drive, give it a good thrashing & see if the smoke gets better.
If u want a 7 series u can drive everyday you get an 1995?-2001 E38 . with some preventative maintenance they can be reliable and still feel very solid.
Not all bmws are bad. If you can work on them by yourself for the most part they can be very rewarding. You lose a lot more money when leasing as opposed to buying
IIya PimpDaddyi i was wondering if that would work, i have a friend the did that with a M3 but this car is so big and heavy... can you LS swap it and get it to move the same way it would with its own pro charged engine?
Honestly the engine bay is big enough to take even a 7.4 under the hood...it's make to take a v12 so...I would...the issue comes with the wiring since the 7 series has so much wire hair, it could present one hell of a headache and many things won't work after the swap
IIya PimpDaddy agreed. But let’s say you put a LS under the hood and were able to get it to work... could that engine get this big bitch down the road and still make it perform?? Also i know corvette has a super charged version of the LS, that would definitely work.
Frederick Behn let me put it to you this way. There are many types of LS engines out there. You can go fro the 5.3 all the way up to the lt4 with 700hp. Plus the engine tunes for them and the forced induction kits are off the charts. So you can make it go down the road BETTER than that bmw did brand new.
Here in Brazil we have quote that says: "There's nothing more expensive than a cheap BMW." and it works for every premium car that reach the botton of their depreciation.
This car is an electrical nightmare, too. You’d have to basically wire up a whole new car to get everything to work as you’d want in a luxury sedan. But that would be sick
That is absolutely, categorically, not possible. This isn’t a ‘68 F100, sorry. These cars are insanely complicated. I’m studying how modern car electronics work, and the Europeans are batshit insane. Think: a computer module that runs the windshield wipers. Seriously. An LS swap would never happen in this thing, sorry!
Not really. You are throwing good money after bad at that point. And it could have catastrophic engine failure at any point, imangine what a properly working supercharger under full boost could do to that bad cylnder.
You could easily make it drive ls powered. Making the body electical work would be a completely different ball of wax. Ls swap and complete gut/cage/race car build would be the only way it would make sense.
Tyler, I would so pay him for his work. He tried so hard to fix it. And honestly, I watched this video because it said RIP alpina, so he helped make great content. I can see that he's honest, and if I needed work, I'd go to him, or the wizard. Keep up the great work.
Re-seal Supercharger. Drive vehicle until it CLUNKS OUT(seized engine). Load on flat bed to nearest wrecker/dismantler and accept w/e amount of cash payment offered on the spot. Life goes on.
JIGA BACHI that’s what a normal person would do. Hoovie has too many cars to drive one that’s patched together, Hopefully this is the end of newish bmws for hoovie.
If I had 20 other cars, that's exactly what I would do, since this POS would probably only see 500 miles a year at best anyway. When you have a Rolls, why would your roll in this Bangle Butt Bastardization?
Richard Harrold: it’s “infinitely better design” as you describe it is yet another abject failure by BMW. I agree that BMWs make nice handling sedans with brilliant looking features, but when one considers that one must spend a fortune to buy, and then a second fortune keeping it going, they just aren’t worth the very substantial hassle.
11:03 You have a very honest mechanic. He instantly winced when you said you were going to dump it wholesale, lol. He even takes a step back like "Is this guy really filming this?".
The guy is like “wtf is he smoking this car is worth it.” I’d put a brand new engine in this car with a manual swap and keep it running for another decade.
I love how honest the car Ninja is and it showed by him offering to not charge you for some of the work he did cuz it did not fix the problem. Mad respect to the car Ninja:) 💯
Basically very similar to most high performance BMW’s... they are fine for a few years, then richer owners or those that have it on lease give them back.... they are sold at auction to people who have enough money to buy and put fuel in them, but not maintain them to the crazy high standards needed... they then keep them running until basically a mechanic says ‘aaahhh yeah that’s a big job’ and they chop them in and they are basically junked...
They are usually good for first 2 owners. First owner is rich, car gets proper maintenance, but the owner needs new car up to his social status after 3-5 years. Second owner is somewhat successful, can afford some maintenance, wants something special but can't afford to lose 70k on amortizaiton. But sells it at 8+ years when repair bills are not worth it anymore. And the third owner is brokeass wannabe gangsta who empty his wallet to buy aging car, and is lucky to have enough money to fill the tank. And he does service is in amateur non-specialez shops, or doesn't service it at all.
@@KretinoSantino Nope, absolutely nothing to do with keeping up with maintenance. That's a bs story coming from deluded dreamers or owners/dealers who need people to buy these second hand. It's all to do with inherent design faults causing premature engine wear. Countless BMW M and non M engines have design faults.
@@donkgated8074 Yes it does. Almost every car have intentional/unintentional design flaws. Most can be permanently fixed with reasonable money. We are talking about perma-broken cars, literally unfixable. And that's not case of BMW, that's case of every expensive car ..... at some age of the car, it is owned by someone who can't afford proper maintenance and problems just add up, one unfixed issue cause new issues in long term. And that's not just problem of expensive car ........ try to buy used car from Italy ... Italians just don't care, they just drive and drive, and if things starts to fall apart, they sell the car.
@Moe Green I've got a couple close relatives that are still driving the 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager they bought new (it's mechanically the same as the Dodge Grand Caravan). Those pre-Daimler Chryslers were built really well.

I love buying cars like this. That engine block isn’t special, so while a complete alpina assembly is expensive, the actual failed component isn’t. Same thing with rebuilding the supercharger.
In order to score (and re-score) that cylinder wall, that engine has eaten something Fe based, and prolly pretty hard. I suspect bits of ball bearing metal from one tossed off the blower ... They have embedded in the piston crown shoulder or skirt and are grinding the wall away. But they are also maybe going through the rest of the engine too. So yeah, the proof is the cyl wall issue. The engine is toast :(
Even if not an LS, just something that isn't a POS engine from the get go. I can only imagine the headaches trying to make something not BMW talk to all the other computers in the car to make it driveable.
V C LS swaps are pretty easy on everything, you just ditch everything BMW and use all the ECU’s and wiring harnesses from GM, 100% of anything BMW makes is garbage and needs to be throw away during a swap.

When you get a price of $11,000 on a part like a supercharge BMW is telling you they only kept a couple spares after production so they put a stupid high price on it so no one will buy the couple they have but they can still claim they have the parts in stock.
It’s tough getting rid of a car you really love, I did that a few years ago after selling a pristine money pit, I moved downtown walking distance from work. The upside is that I now have much more spare money taking the train and Uber everywhere, no headaches and a whole set of constant problems gone.
Yeah, right, and then, they rev the engine to the red line and shut it off, dropping oil pressure to zero, but turbo still spins at 15000 rpm. Stupid owners need a brain swap.

@@brookstrudeau7091 yeah I totally get it, but it still hurts 😭😂 plus he probably knew the engine was bricked anyways

*Hello Tyler:* Just watched your series of videos on the Alpina. This final one was kind of an emotional ending to the series. I've been enjoying all of the various series of videos on all of your BMW's. *Request:* Could you have someone categorize your various "series" of videos (of a particular car's saga) as individual playlists. I think you will be glad you did this down the road. And, it will make it easy for people who have a particular affinity for a particular model & year to hone in on that particular car's story saga. Thanks for your enjoyable videos; you are very enjoyable to listen to.
The Car Ninja is so honest! I would pay him anyways he took the whole engine apart, mostly around 40 hours of labor @ 100 per hour that’s 4K
He only charges $100/hr? The Toyota dealership charged us $140/hr yesterday in colonial Heights VA
BMW: Heroes get remembered
Toyota: But legends never die.
Japanese cars are like Russian tanks.
is that why toyota had bmw help make the new supra
@@dylonstomm2223 well when your the best, you have to sometimes go cheap so the americans can afford it
Ynnel?! *older
@@dylonstomm2223 Toyota wanted to help BMW pretending they needed help making Supra, just not to embarrass BMW ;)
As the owner of a manual E32 that has 420K miles and runs fabulously, I feel so bad that the modern generation of 7s is such hot garbage. I'd love to own one but never will.
My manual E32 has about that many miles as well, glad im not the only one, its really sad to see the newer flagships be so far from what bmw's used to be known for.
e38 w/ 336k miles. its a 1995 so it has the 4.0 from the e32 not the 4.4. Had a e66 w/ 140k, lasted 15k until it would not run. 3 independent BMW shops could not get it fixed, sold it for $500 on CL. Have 2 other e38s and a e39. e39 has been a challenge, but i find i'm a better mechanic than the shops.
E23 manual slicktop 745i here
Any E32 and E38 is my friend
I really miss my 1989 E32 735. Best car I ever owned. Put 220,000mi on it in 20 years and only rebuilt the auto transmission and replaced the battery. Now I see they’re appreciating in price. Keep yours as long as you can.
You go M539 restoration the host goes through so much frustration to repair the beautiful alpina. Truly ashame I love German Sedans myself but they can be a beautiful nightmare. Over engineering is ridiculous and Japanese peers keep it simple. Get it together BMW , Volkswagen
