I have a bachelor's degree in both Psychology and Sociology and have an GPA of 3.4. Would you consider that a good start to get into a program? I haven't taken the GRE yet.
I have a sister in law who is a SLP. Do you think having her as a resource will help me with the process of applying to grad school when the time comes? It makes me nervous hearing how competitive this field is but my SIL has been very encouraging.
Hi! I am almost a senior in college, have been working towards a BA in psych, and I am just now realizing my passion for SLP. I found a masters program that has an option for out-of-field students, which basically says it offers the courses i would need to catch up, within the actual program. but I'm confused -- does this mean i don't have to take any slp courses to get in? I know this may be a question for the school itself but I thought I would check here first...any insight would be deeply appreciated. I have so much anxiety about this new-found goal and I hope there is a way to reach it..
Hi Haley ! I’ve actually never heard of a program that offers that option, so I’m really not sure. I would definitely reach out to the school to get more information, good luck :)
Hey girl. I just graduated and got my BS in a different field and also wanted to go into speech language but I was almost done with my degree so I finished it. But now since I’m not a SLP major I have to get into a Post-Bacc program. So I suggest you look into post-bacc for slp if you end up graduating with your BA in psych. I hope that makes sense :)
If you don't mind me asking, what schools did you apply to and what was your GRE score? I am in the process of applying I feel like I am putting way too much pressure on myself.
Hey I just watched your video, and it was really helpful. Thanks for making this video! I am thinking about going to grad school for slp, but I am psychology major so I didn't take almost all prerequisites. Are there any schools that accept students like me? I am really worried that I am not competitive.
Jihyun Hwang my pleasure! There are schools that accept other majors, but you do need to take all the pre reqs required for that program. I know a few people in my program that didn’t major in speech actually so it’s not uncommon :) If you take all the pre reqs and do fairly well in them I think you’ll have good shot!
