when u chose to work w children aka become a pediatric slp does that mean u can’t ever work w other ages?
Be an ELL teacher. You wont have a life with all the paperwork and they overload you with students. Many are leaving everyday. Pay is low for all that you do and hours you put in.
Funny. I’m leaving that career to try out speech therapy.
@@Friendly_Black_Hottie I would not leave your ELL job. The workload us bad. You will be swarmed with IEP meetings , evaluation meetings , paperwork, and heavy documentation. If you get higher salary it doesn't matter because you will be working hours of unpaid time at home after working an hour day.
8 hour day.
What type of Laptop should I use?
I know this video was posted 3yrs ago but can someone confirm that GRE is not a requirement anymore?
some schools require it and some don't, asha edfind has a great school search with details on each school
thank you! Excellent video. This really helped me a lot as I embark on my career change to speech language pathology. ❤
Where do u live ??
I love your humility. I am studying speech pathology and how do you cope with the work load?
So true my great Aunt is dying of a stroke. I have enrolled to be a speech pathologist. I am ok but the nurses were so upset as the swallowing test did not pick up major swallowing issues. As soon as I said I was a prospective speech pathology student. They saw me as a source of comfort. I told them that they were doing a good job but she misses her husband and never recovered. Nurses really love speech pathologists because when we do swallowing tests we have the patient’s life in our hands. So we get how scary it is to have someone’s life in your hands. I felt so happy that I was able to be a source of comfort to them. Such a great profession.
that’s so scary. do u have to do swallowing tests as an slp or can u avoid them?
@@char6081 yes especially in the hospital. In the community you are able to avoid them a bit more.
lol my mum is the best cook
I love your Buddha statue
So true it has a holistic approach
This is great. I start speech pathology in March 2024. I am so excited
I spent most of my life trying to find trades careers not finding anything that I felt passionate about. It wasn't until I spent time volunteering and promoting a children charity I realized my passion and skillset is talking to people and any time that I do something for someone even something small that helps someone or gives them a positive experience they wont forget I absolutely love that. School seems like a daunting thing since im a 36 year old with just a G.E.D and the pre-requisites seem high and it could be such a competitive program to get into. Do you have any advice or anecdotes for a mature student such as myself?
very appreciated!
🎉🎉Yep
I was a political science major and am looking at going to grad school for speech language pathology
I’m taking language science and I hate it 😭
Thanks for sharing. Can a liberal art student apply for master in this field? thanks.
Such a great video! even though I'm only viewing it now. I'm currently in 1st year and staying home for uni. Thing is, it's an online uni but there is a small campus so at least I am out the house. I agree, it's very cost effective and my parents do realize I'm am an adult and give me my independence. Just wanted to say I love the points you made and it gave me such reassurance about staying home. I realized that I was forcing myself to move away to another public uni but after a few months of self talk and this video, I realize staying at home is better x
Thanks so much for making this video, everything you said really hit home! I'm 24 and going through a rough patch with my life and lost touch with most of the friends I made in high school and university, and even then I consider them to be more acquaintances than true friends. I'm dissatisfied with my current career and feel an enormous amount of pressure to have a more fulfilling job and have it all figured out, too. There is immense value in being a traditional person. I think the partial deconstruction of values and structure in our society as a result of emerging technologies has underestimated the value of traditional paths, which are integral to supporting a healthy, functioning society. What would our world look like without people like you and me? Dysfunctional. Also want to add (I'm sure you know this already) but take everything you see in social media with a massive grain of salt. I'm not on there at all. It may seem redundant to say, but social media draws image-oriented people that will use pictures to have us believe they live a certain way and have it all going on. I can assure you their reality is much different. My cousin is trying to become and influencer and is renting yachts and luxury cars and designer clothes so she can stage photos for Instagram to make her look like this rich, successful person when in reality she works at a strip club waitress. No shame in doing that for work, but it's very different to her life online.
love this! i am actually going into my sophomore year of undergrad as a speech path major and couldn’t be happier! i absolutely love what i’m learning!
i've been binge watching your videos all day. i really enjoy your channel

Hi, thank you so much for sharing your undergrad experience. 🙂I am currently in my second semester and I really appreciated the classes you mentioned. I always feel nervous that I can't learn through this program because it's all new and I don't know what to expect. But, I know I have been interested in this field and it seems quite enjoyable. Wishing you all the best in grad school and God bless you!💛
hi, thankyou so much for making this video! i’ve been debating on switching my major for elem. education to slp but i’ve been a little nervous because i’ve always been familiar w education but was just recently introduced to slp! you’ve definitely helped me to understand what becoming an slp entails! 🥰
I’m studying SLP in Czech Republic and I had some doubts if its right for me but I have to say that this video made me think more about it and I think i've made the right choice ☺️
I hear you about feeling defeated!!! It is super hard to study for these under-grade courses and work as a preschool teacher. Great advice to split the study days!!! Persevere and never give up! It will be sooo worth it!!
Hi Jessica! I am interested in changing my major to speech pathology, but I am also very nervous because by the time I begin those classes I will have a newborn. Are the classes terribly difficult ?
I have a question I am currently at a community college in my 2nd semester and I am required to take a foreign language all 4 semesters, was this true for you ?
-Ive been looking a lot into slp but I'm 24 right now if I were to do a bachelors and master i probably wouldnt graduate till I'm like 30 idk if it's worth it
This was very helpful. Thank you.
thank you for the brief and useful information
omg your coffee maker looks so fancy
love ur video. im a bcba and considering studying slp at mcgill
Ahh makes me so excited to start my slp major in september🤩
ahhh good luck!:)
Do undergraduate schools have to be accredited by ASHA?
Off topic but you are so pretty !
Thank you!:)
Hello! I have a question. Do speech pathologist wirth with people who have trouble with nonveebal communication as well as understanding social ques/body language?
yes they do:)
@@jessicaizzo5113 thank you !
The college I live near has a masters in SLP, but not a bachelors. I’m not able to move. What would be the best bachelor degree substitutes to prepare for a masters in SLP? Thanks!
Watching your video made me contemplate to take speech path. I'm currently done with my undergrad as associates of science, but I'm thinking to take speech path route. Thank you for sharing this!
I definitely relate to this, thank you for making this video!
Thank u sm!! I’m a junior and I was thinking about majoring in speech pathology during college this helped me a lot:)
