    Coria is absolutely spot on. Brooksby’s behaviour on the court (general) is disgusting and the fact he keeps getting away with it is awful for tennis. Absolutely not the message to send

    • @harrison3910
      @harrison3910 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think the ump made the right call, the racket barely made contact, and the ball boy got out of the way in time. I think begging for a default is not a good look, just keep playing you got the point. But you also have a point if the ump stuck to the rule book extremely technically he definitely had reason to default him.

      @@harrison3910 so whether its a default or not is based on the linemans abiliity to dodge a racket thrown at him, rather than the act of the person throwing the racket? Doesnt make much sense to me

    • @harrison3910
      @harrison3910 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@xXChipsAndGravyXx yeah bc they have different rules and penalties on racket abuse and hitting someone. It’s impossible to judge intention. So the ump made a judgment call, if sure it’s was a terrible situation and if the ump disqualified him I wouldn’t have said anything. But he didn’t, so that should be that. Like I said begging for a default is always a bad look, just keep playing you already have the upper hand.

    0:54 That is ridiculous umpiring. Whether or not it's in the rules, I don't care. I've watched tennis for nearly half a century, predominantly Grand Slam tennis admittedly rather than ATP, and thankfully I've only seen common sense prevail during moments such as that. If this pedantic type of umpiring is the future....and I doubt it would come to Wimbledon, have to say....then we're on a slippery slope with the game.

    • @JakeLesser

      Seems to me that umpires have been submissive to players for so long (with their tantrums and bad behaviour) that they are trying to regain authority by being super pedantic with rules and also not listening when a player makes a genuine protests to a decision, as in we are right, do not question us type mentality. I hope that a better balance can be struck, but they are getting almost as arrogant as the players.

    @fedeecoria this was mainly because the crowd causes an "hindrance to the match" and therefore needs to be contained before it gets out of their hands, and usually is not controlled by the players themselves. That's a clear red flag for the umpire to act (Reference to that Wimbledon match that you sourced form). However, in this situation, the ball "boy" you're referring to (he's actually an adult well past your age, Federico), was not actually harmed that much by the flown racquet (in Djocovid's case, obviously it was a clear attack on the line umpire), but in this other situation, unless the ball person had actually been hit by the racquet itself, you would have made a fair point in defaulting Brooksby. BUT... it didn't, so in this case, it's the chair's decision to call it in to the court supervisor, and if he chose not to call the supervisor, it's up to him ultimately. Also, you don't need to worry for the well being of the ballpeople, as that's the job for the health professionals and safety officials on the court, tho good effort on the sportsmanship (meanwhile, you yourself have fallen to quite some..... throwing antiqs) @fedeecoria
