I'm beginning to gather that the supervisor is the most useless role in the entire ATP. I cannot recall a time where the supervisor actually did something
It’s because they’re speaking to the supervisor on a question of fact. They can’t do anything. If the player called on interpretation of the rules that’s different, but they hardly ever do. It’s usually because they don’t like a decision which the supervisor can do nothing about.
Well I can say Sinner has much more patience than me. Definitely different breed to have a preposterous call like that against you and be that respectful.
So funny how I remember each of these moments as they unfolded & now I can sit back and enjoy the compilations months later. What you omitted from the opening Botic clip, which the commentators expounded upon, is that he actually MADE the shot, but was so scrambled mentally & so down on himself throughout that match that the second violation (ball abuse) was a premature, self-sabotaging, utter lack of self-belief that ultimately cost Botic the tiebreak when he very much could've have won it. It was insane. I hope he never does that to himself again. You must believe in yourself.
I can't wait for this whole court drama to be over. Everyone from the peanut gallery & TC is constantly looking to take jabs at a situation they're not inside of and lack the legal background to speak on. Good on Zverev for just staying focused on playing excellent tennis. The ATP already conducted their investigation using a third party & the players already nominated and voted for him to be on the Council. The fact that he's going through the stress of appealing instead of paying the fine & merely settling already says a lot. He has his daughter & his girlfriend and has moved on from what was clearly not the best relationship. People are using allegations and cancel culture to preemptively make him out to be the Ike Turner of tennis and then engage in flippant disregard for "innocent until proven guilty". The burden is on the prosecution NOT the defense. Truth is, we don' know anything, so let's just stay out of it.
"In order to challenge, a player must show an immediate interest in making a challenge and must do it in a timely manner. The key to the policy is “immediate interest”. The player must also make his/her intention to challenge known to the Chair Umpire either verbally or visually using his racquet or finger. The Chair Umpire will (a) reconfirm with the player his intent to challenge; (b) confirm that the player has challenges remaining; and (c) proceed with the electronic review."
BVZ hitting a winner, getting set point, then smashing a ball out of the stadium and getting a point penalty has gotta the the biggest boneheaded thing I’ve ever seen in tennis 😂 what is this man on
I like how Casper Ruud addressed that with the chair umpire - made his point, reiterated that he knew it wasn't the chair umpire's fault, but asked for his view to be passed onto the ATP.
It wasn't really about the ball, it was about TIME. I remember this tournament well & Zverev had a point about the way things were being run. Alas, there was nothing anyone could've done to stop Thompson during that miracle run to both Los Cabos titles.
Yeah but the umpire is being difficult for no reason. Thompson hit a shot that ended the rally, Zverev then took few seconds to challenge. Zverev is right that there is no consistency how umpires allow challenges. I've seen so many times players discussing the call with the umpire asking his opinion and then challenge, like wtf?? Sometimes 3 seconds is too long but other times 15 seconds is fine.
Sascha was right about how inconsistent umpires are with how long they permit players to take before challenging, but wow why did he sabotage himself like that over a challenge he clearly would have lost
My god, Zverev is either not intelligent enough to understand the simplest rules or he really needs a psychologist. Such an unnecessary and ridiculous outburst, again. Glad that he does not attach the umpire with his racquet. He will never be a true champion. Period.
Umps like the one in van assches are what annoys me like clearly challenged and even if he didn’t see it he could still give it to him it doesn’t affect the play at all
Monte-Carlo: It all started at 2-1 in the 2nd set with questionable lines calls then escalated when Meddy freaked out at Mo Leyhani during the changeover after getting broken by Monfils in the 2nd set at 4-1. "It's OUT!" "I'm playing so good!" "I don't see the time clock..." cursing, etc. I fully expect to see this moment in the clay court drama video. Good close-ups of his face, too. They chatted about it at the end of the match & Meddy was right. Hawk-Eye showed it was indeed OUT. It was an important point that gave Monfils the undeserved break, so Meddy went into lockdown mode & won the next 5 games. 6-2 6-4 1hr 27mins.
Remember when Serena called someone a thief and received a code, but Zverev is cussing up a storm here and yelling at the umpire, saying that they fucked it up, and he got nothing?
tbf zverev was kind of just talking to himself when he was at his bench. saying it directly to an official’s face is worse. not saying either case is right or wrong
It's impossible to say for sure if FAA's serve was in or out, but it definitely wasn't inside the court like he claims. If it was in it would have just about clipped the line, judging by going frame by frame on video.
So I've been watching a lot of these videos. Firstly, amazing compilations and content. Secondly, can anyone guide me through the rules related to "challenge"? It might be just me but I beginning to think the rules are complicated and intricate. Is there any website or video where a detailed version of the rules exists? Thanks in advance.
I love the difference of reaction/behaviour between Sinner who gets an unjustified time violation in the tie-break and Zverev who gets denied the right to challenge a call because it quite obviously came too late at 30-30, beginning of a set, not even on his serve 🤦♂️
Apples to oranges. Zverev was livid because he had lost a crucial point after playing for nearly three hours going past midnight at a lower 250 event worth less money & points. Sinner had been playing for far less time at a Masters event which is worth more money & points & had just won two big tournaments giving him 2.5k points. Easier to take a time violation misunderstanding in stride.
You once again completely bypassed the epic Draper meltdown during the changeover after Leheckyeah went up 4-1 in the final set. COME ON! I swear, when I get my hands on that footage, I'll post it. You included Zverev freaking out during the changeover but continue to protect Draper. I can't... Everyone is working overtime to burnish Draper's image in the wake of British men's tennis returning to council housing. The Andalite lost once again to Hubi at Minty Carload, so there ya go.
How difficult is it for players to immediately shout CHALLENGE. You know instinctively if you see the ball in/out. There is no prolonged thought process.
Not true. We're talking about split-second reactions. Sometimes you're not sure & everyone is waiting for the other person to provide clarity. If you call for it & you're wrong, you lose the point, but if you don't call in time & you're right, you've lost the point. It can be a real catch 22 mindfluck.
And people they don’t treat the vets different. The umpire really didn’t want to give Rafa a code, he said “ladies and gentlemen, Rafa was a little bit late returning” 😂😂 13:37
There's still warnings and violations, disqualifications, and clay courts where electronic line calling isn't used. Maybe less content overall but definitely still enough to make 1-2 videos per surface per season. Also the WTA tour is always more salty so plenty of drama to be had

Player: Call the supervisor
Supervisor: I cant do anything with that

Was beginning to get worried till the last segment. Paire did not disappoint.
Same. Was thinking that if the era of Paire was ending we might need to adopt Nishioka as the new patron saint of Tennis Advocate.
He often plays UTS these days if you're looking for more of him.
Sinner really made the umpire compromise with him there, and avoided any fights, what a legend
