    Protecting your lungs is VERY IMPORTANT! In 1984 I painted a caprice with a catilized acrylic paint. I had a good respirator but one of the cartridges was defective. I ended up in the hospital that night and almost died. ( not fun at all) And ever since I suffer with asthma. If I'm around perfumes, hair spray etc i will be reaching for an inhaler. If I'm ever around acrylic paints, even for 5 seconds, I will be in the hospital within 5 hours. BELIEVE PETE WHEN HE SAYS " USE A GOOD RESPIRATOR "! IT'S ALWAYS IMPORTANT TO USE GOOD ADVICE!

    Thanks for the great video Pete. A small tip that was taught to me, is to use Prepsol to clean the panel before Scotchbrite, then Prepsol it again. This helps to reduce the chance of rubbing contaminants into the surface with the Scotchbrite. Also, how is the Cobra coming along?

      Great tip! I'm taking the Cobra apart to start the bodywork

    Great comprehensive video. You’re a true professional. Looks like I may be spending more money in the end than just taking it to the dealer, but I will have some new toys 😂

    Outstanding summary, Pete. I didn't see any buffing afterward, do you buff in the orange peel later to make it match a little better? And you mentioned a sealer at the beginning, I guess that means you don't need a primer if it is already painted first? If you prime it yourself, do you still reach for a sealer coat?

      Thanks my friend. If there is a huge difference I will blend with a buff. This one is pretty close though. The fender came primed, I just use the sealer to make sure.

      @@PetesGarage I’m gonna be painting used parts that are black with green. It’s for Silverado. Do you have any additional steps or guides you would give in addition to this video?

    Pete another good one what can I say. I noticed with the color coat 1st coat you went in a horizontal spray pattern and the 2nd coat more of a vertical spray pattern. Was that just for coverage or it doesn’t matter? Just get good coverage. Thanks for mentioning orange peel. Everyone says oh there is orange peel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊😊😊🇺🇸

    So I bought a licence plate trunk cover part from eBay. My car is black, but the part came in a finished gray topped with clear coat. I want to paint it black. What I want to know is do I have to sand it down, prime it, and then paint it? Or can I paint over the clear coat

    When you say sealer is that like an epoxy primer? Can you put the base coat on a epoxy primer

    • @PetesGarage
      @PetesGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sealer is a 1 part material, epoxy is a 2 part. Yes, it can go over epoxy

    Looking through the comments you really do reply to everyone, that's pretty cool! I've been looking on OfferUp for some spray guns, some pretty decent deals. I have no prior experience but I am going to be painting my front bumper on my civic and a spoiler, both are new and already primed. I'm also planning on touching up the fender and fixing the trunk due to a rather large dent, about 3-4 inches with paint damage. What would your advice be? Around how much paint should I buy and are there any steps that may not have been mentioned here in this vid that might be helpful in my case? I'm a new subscriber so I will definitely be looking around for more of your videos and I do plan on going to a few shops and talking to them as well like you recommended but would love to have some of your input as well. Thanks for your help!!

      I tried to include every step, following the mixing instructions on the can or ask the paint retailer. You can get a good gun for around $130 that will last a lifetime if you take care of it. You can do it

    Good Vid Pete. Wow, Nason has been around for a long time. I used that over 30 years ago. It was at the time a very say, inexpensive paint. Would you put that on the Cobra? :)

    Great video Pete! I want to repaint my mustang, I did some serious bodywork on the quarter panel, fender, and radiator support. I am doing an all over color change, should I scuff the clear coat or should I just put a sealer and paint over the top?
