I've watched some of your videos and I think they were very good and helpful. But when it comes to blending pearl's you and I know they can be hateful lol. But I'm so glade that you made this video so people can see the work that we professional painter have to do to make there cars look as good as the do. It's not just buying a $500 iwata and think your going to have a professional paint job. It's the years of long hard work and training that we put in to get as good as we are. From someone who used to make paint thinners and cleaners for a living, here is a tip. The paint manufacturers charge an arm and two legs for their name brand cleaners. For solvent cleaning ( wax and grease removers) you can use VM&P Naptha, found in your local hardware store. For plastic parts, use Denatured Alcohol as a cleaner and anti-static remover. These are the basic ingredients for these products. VM&P Naptha may not be available in your state due to air quality regulations.

Bro, as a Lover and Admirer of music and cars, dude anyone, and l mean anyone who knows his kraft to the letter and with no flaws, no lies, he or she doesn't slack and cut corners, this is a person who has basically spent their whole life doing said craft.... And might I add that this brother, not only does he know his craft very well in auto body but I will venture on a bet that he digs and researches and tests and has experience in every facet of auto body that we just merely watching in a TH-cam video can't even begin to imagine.... knowledge of what this brother gives, shows and spills out his mouth don't just fall into your lap or hands everyday, you have to earn it the old fashioned way, hard, extremely hard work, much sweat, they're chemicals so there might be some tears.....
Food, culinary arts, music sound rhythm, sports, auto repair, computer programming, any time you see a pro at what they're doing best believe they've been doing it all they're life there's no doubt...
Yes of course he can teach any college level course in auto body and paint.... when I listen and watch all his moves and the things he says there's no doubt in my mind he's been doing this all his life PLUS the years of knowledge given to him by his mentors as he was coming up as a young lad in The Paint Society !
Respect Bro... I admire your knowledge and wisdom and appreciate you sharing your life with us
it's facetious to say "don't over think it, it's just paint" but I get it

The only mistake I'm really concerned about is the tiger stripes. I don't know how to fix it especially considering the improper overlay spray didn't surface till I laid 3 coats of clear coat. Can sealer be sprayed over bare metal if block sanding through high-build primer only a couple spots? If not would it be better to reprime the whole car or just use self-etching primer in a can

I have watched many of your videos and learned so much on each project that on old retired guy can take on. I can't say thanks enough, and I mean this in the best way possible. You my friend are an artist in your craft and I swear you could fart in a mason jar full of paint and get a shine that I could only dream of on the car !!! LOL, keep up the great work !!! Your stickers are on my compressor as a reminder, " Don't Over Think It, It's Just Paint !"

Hi Brian, What's the difference between a 1.2mm and 1.3mm tip ?? Is the effect really that noticeable ? I'm looking to buy a few guns and I see an option of 1.2 or 1.3 for the same gun. Which do I choose ?

I get better jobs with a 1.2. Less peel and less runs

I want to get the cc500 base gun you are using in this video. What needle and nozzle size are you using. And how is this gun set up on metallics?
    Thanks

Brian, love your channel and it has been immensely helpful in my getting up to a standard I'm now reasonably proud of. What attracted me to the title of this video, was common mistakes. And for me the biggest problem I found for a DIY working in a less than ideal environment has been .... Dirt and bugs, how to minimize it, accepting it is a fact of life.
Leaving aside the obvious working environment, its painting techniques to minimize dirt and bugs I would love to hear your thoughts on.
A recent Standox training video on 3 stage pearl blending I watched, and the guy briefly bakes his base coat to completely dry it before applying his pearl, allowing him to tack it prior to applying the pearl. I was just apply the pearl with the same flash times as my base e.g. 7 minutes without tacking. Allowing the base to completely dry for about 20 minutes (to somewhat equate to his short bake result) and tacking it before the pearl definitely resulted in a MUCH cleaner final outcome. The guy making the Standox video makes a comment always tack between coats, but I unclear if he means even between basecoat coats, or just between base/pearl/clear.
Love to hear your thoughts on this.

I am painting my first peal blend on a 2012 Navigator . Pretty good so far. Ran into problem on rocker panel 3.5” x 14” hole after rust removal. Thinking on witch way to go about the fix . Any previous videos I might watch ?

Thanks for al the information. I understand your intention is to teach and educate people like myself as a DIY guy. Question. After 600 grit on metal, and priming. Do I need to sand before first coat? I already have separated plastic parts and primed. But, what to do now?

hi sir, absorption of volatile substances such as paint particles through the facial skin and eye membranes is quite high, highly recommend using sealed eye goggles 😁 stay safe

Learned something from this one here. Always learning but man didn’t know about the shake instead of stir. Usually shake in the Paint Gun after a minute or two in between. I guess I’ve been lucky, phew.
