I’m a collision tech and the last time I was painting was 2008 in my apprenticeship level 3 and only just doing body/ glass and frames till I took a break from the trade this COVID-19 after 13 years never do paint. Hi Mr Brian I'm a 20 + years painter and I have all respect in what you're doing to help in showing young painter and your diy guys. On tips for painting and setting up spray guns. I've watched some of your videos and I think they were very good and helpful. But when it comes to blending pearl's you and I know they can be hateful lol. But I'm so glade that you made this video so people can see the work that we professional painter have to do to make there cars look as good as the do. I'm hitting a car with silver tomorrow and was dreading it but after watching his vid on silver metallic I'm actually looking forward to it, Thanks Brian and cheers from the land down under.
Another great video, i paint furniture for a living, spraying it, but after watching your videos i have had the confidence to paint my bonnet and back doors on my ford custom van including knocking out some big dents, the bonnet is finished and looks amazing I will be finishing the rear doors today, all work carried out by my apollo 5 stage turbine, like you mine came with a 1.3 needle set up and i had to colour sand the clear coat but now i have a .8 and 1. Set up to try today,, was always scared of metallic but it looks amazing, and its all been done out side,, i live near london

love the tips re: the bumper color vs the fenders! back when the plastic parts and bumpers were coming out there color matches were so bad we got away with murder because that was the norm! even worse color changing when we had to put flex additives in the paints ! would ruin otherwise decent color matches!!!
Love watching the videos! I know your a professional but when I use wax and grease remover not only will I wipe in one direction but I fold the rag over each time (not wanting to push anything I've wiped off into the other sections). Yes, I go through a few rags (that's the way I was taught). LOL!!

Some good information here. Also I find it helpful to watch your spray technique. Keep it clean, build it up in layers, leave some area to blend, let it flash and vapor off. I can do this. Thanks Brian.

Perhaps an episode of the styles of paint guns you choose, features for certain applications. I am a rattle can junkie trying to get into spray guns for better results. Thank you.
From someone who used to make paint thinners and cleaners for a living, here is a tip. The paint manufacturers charge an arm and two legs for their name brand cleaners. For solvent cleaning ( wax and grease removers) you can use VM&P Naptha, found in your local hardware store. For plastic parts, use Denatured Alcohol as a cleaner and anti-static remover. These are the basic ingredients for these products. VM&P Naptha may not be available in your state due to air quality regulations.

I like my sata digital 2000, it’s 15 years old but works great. The devilbiss copper tekna I have is also a great spray gun. I enjoy your videos brother.
I use a SATA jet 4000 rp. I love the finish it gives but I absolutely HATE the fan control. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to change it from 2 full turns, to 1/4 turn from fan to stream. Then the pin gets worn out and the knob will turn to full stream mid coat and fuck a whole paint job up! So now I use the Tekna Pro 🤣
Yes on the paint code being close but not ever right. You need to match how the original has changed with time and sun exposure, as it will be a few shades off. Especially on light colours and for bright colours as well.
A paint dealer in my hometown present me with different shades of purple for me to choose based on its age.. saves me the trouble of picking the right one.
You should teach at Tech College, you are really helpful. About blending colour to the bumpers, Lexus comes ex-factory Japan with different shade poly bumpers, maybe show the customer this first on the other side, this way you can concentrate on blending the metal panels to each other.
I started using sealer on your recommendation ....i usually sand my primer 320 then 600 you mention you sand with 320 then sealer..is that p320 or the k series you explained of?
I have an old 99' GMC Sierra Farm Truck and I' m doing a cheap paint job to this farm truck. I'm using rustoleum professional glossy white paint on the top part of truck. I live right outside of Houston where it is humid and hot. I think I 'm going to roll the white rustoleum on. In mixing that paint I was told to use about 60% paint and 40% acetone or mineral spirits and add about a tablespoon of Japan drier with it. I also bought some flood flotrol to add to it. Do I also need a hardener also or not since I 'm adding the Japan Drier and possibly flotrol with it? Please give me your advice.
I encountered all 5 mistakes in my first DIY spray can paint job today: pinholes, grainy clear coat in some areas, flat matte clear coat in some areas, orange peel, and improper overlay spray resulting in tiger stripes. The only mistake I'm really concerned about is the tiger stripes. I don't know how to fix it especially considering the improper overlay spray didn't surface till I laid 3 coats of clear coat. Brian, a cool vid to watch would be if you could mimic those errors and show us how to fix them. Thanks again for all that you do.
I have several 3M 125 microns cups and liners I would like to use with my solvent based white Tri Coat Pearl.I know I should use 200 micron but am rather short of them.Should I be concerned or stick to the 200 micron for solvent. I think some suggest just removing the 125 screen and all will work fine providing I still strain as normal? Thanks
The first man ive watched that knows what hes talking about. Especially when he said theres no magic air pressure watch what the gun is doing, 100% true. Also how regulators arent exactly calibrated equally is also 100% true. Nice to see someone thats no bullshit and isent making a video for there own ego or self esteem issues.

Tips for painting deep fog light buckets on 02 trans am? It’s like a 4 inch hole by about 4 inches deep. Best way to get good coverage all the way down without getting runs?
Start with the buckets. Hit them from top then come in from backside of bumper. Then do rest of bumper. Think your problem may be trying to do whole bumper in one shot. Clearing the cover probably to much material around top side of bucket. That make sense? Probably didn't come out right
I've gotten a quart from the paint store, ran out took the can in,they use the same ingredients, and its always off for some reason they can't explain.now I buy a little more than needed to make sure I finish the job with the same mixture.
I have a pump spray bottle where I do a 70/30 mix for cleansing panels once in the booth, 70%is the anti static cleaner(alcohol) and the 30% is the water Bourne cleaner, doesn’t leave any residue and it cleans all the oil and finger prints very well
Can sealer be sprayed over bare metal if block sanding through high-build primer only a couple spots? If not would it be better to reprime the whole car or just use self-etching primer in a can

Hi Brian, What's the difference between a 1.2mm and 1.3mm tip ?? Is the effect really that noticeable ? I'm looking to buy a few guns and I see an option of 1.2 or 1.3 for the same gun. Which do I choose ?
I want to get the cc500 base gun you are using in this video. What needle and nozzle size are you using. And how is this gun set up on metallics? Thanks
I like all the videos you never forget anything I love it . Please Brain if u can make a video how to use the paint chart to fix the color to make it lighter or darker, couldn’t find any video talking about that on TH-cam. Thx
Brian, love your channel and it has been immensely helpful in my getting up to a standard I'm now reasonably proud of. What attracted me to the title of this video, was common mistakes. And for me the biggest problem I found for a DIY working in a less than ideal environment has been .... Dirt and bugs, how to minimize it, accepting it is a fact of life. Leaving aside the obvious working environment, its painting techniques to minimize dirt and bugs I would love to hear your thoughts on. A recent Standox training video on 3 stage pearl blending I watched, and the guy briefly bakes his base coat to completely dry it before applying his pearl, allowing him to tack it prior to applying the pearl. I was just apply the pearl with the same flash times as my base e.g. 7 minutes without tacking. Allowing the base to completely dry for about 20 minutes (to somewhat equate to his short bake result) and tacking it before the pearl definitely resulted in a MUCH cleaner final outcome. The guy making the Standox video makes a comment always tack between coats, but I unclear if he means even between basecoat coats, or just between base/pearl/clear. Love to hear your thoughts on this.
I am painting my first peal blend on a 2012 Navigator . Pretty good so far. Ran into problem on rocker panel 3.5” x 14” hole after rust removal. Thinking on witch way to go about the fix . Any previous videos I might watch ?
Thanks for al the information. I understand your intention is to teach and educate people like myself as a DIY guy. Question. After 600 grit on metal, and priming. Do I need to sand before first coat? I already have separated plastic parts and primed. But, what to do now?
hi sir, absorption of volatile substances such as paint particles through the facial skin and eye membranes is quite high, highly recommend using sealed eye goggles 😁 stay safe
Did you ever see them junkie dent pullers you glue on the light they give you with that with the lines to see if there's any dents ..I think that's pretty neat
Hi Brian! May I know which color code on this Lexus? Eminent White Pearl 085 or Ultra White Pearl 083? I would like to repaint my car with same exact color. Thanking you in advance and keep up with the awesome paint work!

Do I also need a hardener also or not since I 'm adding the Japan Drier and possibly flotrol with it? Please give me your advice.
Have you done a video on key scratch full length of car. Love these videos
What a great tutorial. You explain the process very well!
Thanks for the info. You really have help me so much
This guy is the bomb a wealth of great info 🙏 and a great instructor as well 🙏 God Bless thank you!
You right man there is no magic pressure
But your hand is magic buddy✌✌✌
You are a fantastic teacher!
Thank you William!
@@PaintSociety no problem man. Got to give credit where credit is due especially the time were living in. I always call it like i see it, there's no filter from my brain to my mouth nor to my fingertips.
Great video Brian, is sealer the same as wet on wet ? ….. Thank you
Brian what sealer are you using here? I have been taught to use epoxy sealer and it is not sandable because it will gum up the paper. Your answer will be appreciated.. Phillip Hall
This channel is a God send! Thank you for such excellent tutorials. Sending a warm shout fae Scotland. Cheers and all the best. J
I have a pump spray bottle where I do a 70/30 mix for cleansing panels once in the booth, 70%is the anti static cleaner(alcohol) and the 30% is the water Bourne cleaner, doesn’t leave any residue and it cleans all the oil and finger prints very well
Great information CC500, we all like paint knowledge, thx for sharing. 🇬🇧
Can sealer be sprayed over bare metal if block sanding through high-build primer only a couple spots? If not would it be better to reprime the whole car or just use self-etching primer in a can
I have watched many of your videos and learned so much on each project that on old retired guy can take on. I can't say thanks enough, and I mean this in the best way possible. You my friend are an artist in your craft and I swear you could fart in a mason jar full of paint and get a shine that I could only dream of on the car !!! LOL, keep up the great work !!! Your stickers are on my compressor as a reminder, " Don't Over Think It, It's Just Paint !"
Honest tips. You are the best. God bless you always bro.
great video! question: Do you clean your gun after each coat?
Can I use a PU sealer as a sealer in this case i stead of the thinned out sealer?
Hi Brian, What's the difference between a 1.2mm and 1.3mm tip ?? Is the effect really that noticeable ? I'm looking to buy a few guns and I see an option of 1.2 or 1.3 for the same gun. Which do I choose ?
I get better jobs with a 1.2. Less peel and less runs
You explain and break things down really good brother.
I am painting my first peal blend on a 2012 Navigator . Pretty good so far. Ran into problem on rocker panel 3.5” x 14” hole after rust removal. Thinking on witch way to go about the fix . Any previous videos I might watch ?
Witch? Like the old lady with the pointy hat and wart nose?
You probably mean which.
Legend ! Always great explanations.
i use the sata..im an rv painter.. 5 colors plus the fade sometimes
thank so much for all the lessons and technique i have a 30 gallon 3 HP 2 piston will it be god enough to paint my entire car
Watching your videos taught me a lot. Keep up the good work. I sprayed my 96 corolla two tones. Came out so great
Is it necessary to use a flex agent on plastic parts like bumpers, to keep paint from cracking?
Did you ever see them junkie dent pullers you glue on the light they give you with that with the lines to see if there's any dents ..I think that's pretty neat
Love this man thanks I’m a young painter and I want to improve my quality
Hi Brian! May I know which color code on this Lexus?
Eminent White Pearl 085 or Ultra White Pearl 083?
I would like to repaint my car with same exact color.
Thanking you in advance and keep up with the awesome paint work!
1st time i used the ws400 gun it was a water hose runs every where. Did you reduce wth activator ? by how much. Also my settings were ,Bottom wide open/trigger wide open and fan 3.5 out from closed fort he fluid.29 psi
Your spray room are clean..how u keep it clean? specially the wall..
Do you release the trigger a little bit at the end of every movement or do you hold down the trigger?
And how do you prepare the edges of the bumper where you kept the original color? Do you sand it down a little before clear coat?
Learned something from this one here. Always learning but man didn’t know about the shake instead of stir. Usually shake in the Paint Gun after a minute or two in between. I guess I’ve been lucky, phew.
Finally some one take the real world
Nice job man 💯
