@@meryyona7066 Yes it does lol I hit 55 lbs today. It could have been more but I started lifting weights and of course that adds muscle mass and that could be a reason why the difference in weight is not much but I do feel and look so much different.

Its interesting you didnt look at the Newcastle University diet (uk) for reversing diabetes. Prof Roy Taylor. This is a much more medical specific issue. He used 800 calories for individuals for a short vlcd to reverse diabetes. Used shakes for conveinience. The after diet and food introduction is very important. If people have the motivation of looking down the gun barrel of diabetes etc that can be a good compliance.
I lost 46kgs in 4 months drinking 3 total meal replacements a day and 2 cups of brocoli with a table spoon of butter. Have kept it off almost a year now. Just need to eat properly afterwards. Also had the occasional cheat meal. Maybe 10 days max, to celebrate birthdays etc
It's not easy at all to follow a dietary restrictive plan for a few months. That's the whole point, it takes months for your body to adapt and give up things that you got used to, so you stop craving it. It also took time for you to start developing unhealthy eating habits.
This is the technique MD PhD Prof Emeritus founder of UCLA Center for Nutrition Dr. David Heber uses in the clinic when fat loss is of dire importance. His most famous case is probably Rick Rubin. That said I agree with this video.
Best thing about shakes for meal replacement is it's so simple to do if you don't like counting calories and preparing meals like me.
I've started making my own to replace a couple meals a week to save money.

Are research on healthy weight gain? Supplements and macro ratio etc? Particularly when those clinically under weight wish to add muscle

Depends. It's recommended to change one shake to a normal (healthy) meal every week. After 3 weeks you should be able to eat normal meals again!
