    I don't buy it. I have lived on two meal replacements a day for decades. For dinner, I pretty much eat whatever I want, not always healthy. I feel great. I started this years ago because I had bad GI issues and this diet seems to keep the IBS at bay. I guess we all have to figure out what works for us. Also, I find when I drink a meal replacement, I am satisfied longer. My doctor knows what I do and it has her blessing. I know Ensure gets a bad rap, but my late Grandmother lived on it for 15 years because she wasn't eating and she lived well into her 90s, so the way I look at it, it kept her live longer.

    I've been living on meal replacement shakes since end of July, I snack on fruit and nuts to hit my daily calorie goals but that's about it. This is the second time I've gone this route with my diet and I always feel better on them. They also solve a lot of the drama if you end up developing a negative relationship with food like I occasionally do.
    Yes eating a balanced and healthy diet is inherently better but sometimes circumstances just don't allow for it.

      Recently saw one 35 years old Japanese guy living in Tokyo who has been living on comp(one of the popular meal replacements over there) for 6 years on TH-cam Japanese News show called “Abema TV”. He also did a blood test and his anatomy check and he all had grade “A” except on the “body fat” section which gave grade C because his body fat was way too low 😂 he’s taking only taking meal replacements and protein powder twice a day. He said a diet is determined by “how much your shit costs.” 😂

    I also used Soylent to keep my weight down. When I visited my Dad at his assisted living facility, his life seemed to revolve around the three meals he got every day. To keep my weight down, I drank two liquid Soylents, one at breakfast and one at lunch. Then I ate a normal dinner. I found that the Soylent was so dense that I really needed to drink a glass of water with it. One sip of Soylent, one sip of water, repeat. Another discovery was that I wasn't concentrating on eating food and was able to really engage in conversation with my Dad. The water plus Soylent seemed to give me a full feeling, and I never felt hungry.

    I've seen several fitness enthusiasts over the years who simply used protein shakes as the protein portion of an otherwise full meal that included fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, etc. Since the protein portion of the meal typically involves the lengthiest preparation, this also affords them much of the convenience associated with having solely protein shakes for meals.

    I have been trying to find a good meal replacement because I have had throat cancer and like most throat cancer survivors I struggle to eat solid foods. No saliva and hard to swallow period. ALL the videos I have watched address this issue from the choosing to use meal replacements position. But never looks at it from the point of view of what if you are not blessed with that problem. What if your problem is without meal replacement drinks you would slowly shrivel up and die? With that in mind I wish I could get a meal replacement that didn't cost a fortune but was also healthy. I do eat a solid food meal (although soft foods) in the evening but it is so difficult it probably only accounts for 20% of my daily calories. I try to get 2000 calories and also Protein drinks to get proteins. What is a good healthy choice for the rest of your life daily consumption that doesn't cost $7 to $10 a meal?

Plus, you can add things like a banana, scoop of peanut butter, and some fresh spinach and Kale, with Grass-fed organic milk. Smh people act like the question means ONLY protein powder. I use an Organic Plant based Protein that has literally Everything you need plus over 50 super foods ! I add Grass-fed milk , peanut butter, Spinach and Kale which is already in the powder …

    One simple reason why you should never try to replace solid food with liquid food: dental health, which affects a bunch of other health issues. If you don't use your teeth, not only will your gum be affected, but also you will lose bone mass under your gum. Young folks in their early 20s might not ever think about it. But once you hit your 30s and begin to realise that your dental health is ruined, it'd be too late.

    • @LordEric1

      Could sugar free gum solve this?

    • @tylerchambers6246
      @tylerchambers6246 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've never heard of that in my life. If you don't bite enough, your teeth decay? Wut? I've subsisted on an almost entirely liquid diet since I was 15 to now, 34, for a health issue, and I don't have any bone loss in my teeth.

    • @Barbend
      @Barbend  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually did push her on that in the full interview, she noted that it's hard to know how much of these ingredients survive the processing, sitting on a shelf for months, etc. Which is fair, but the plantyness of Huel is definitely a big part of why I consume it! - Nick

    one problem is if you start comparing meal replacement to a healthy diet. Like no, imo the people going for a quick replacement are the fast food people, not the let's prepare food and cook for 1 hour. I don't think people understand how convenient it is to even just have one meal a day that is prepared in under a minute.

    Studies from 2007? Also did you even read the labels? The good stuff like Huel has more phytonutrients than most diets.

    • @Barbend
      @Barbend  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It probably does, yeah, but when I talk to biochemists about this stuff (like Trevor Kashey) they'll note that it's hard to know if/how many phytochemicals survive the processing and the months on a shelf. Or it might not be that hard, but it's not tested for, and every batch would have different amounts if it has any at all, etc. - Nick

    • @CalvinHobbes92
      @CalvinHobbes92 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    True meal replacement can replace a meal but it should not have to with me i normally take a meal replacement with my meal to get the vitamins and minerals my meal would be missing. Like to be honest if we tryed to get everything we need in our bodies we would have a 300 to 500 dollar grocery bill and sadly that would be for a single person for big families it would be higher unless you know cheap recipes that have everything.
