Minivan Side Door Not Closing (Hyundai Entourage Kia Sedona)

- Door not closing all the way. Specifically on a Hyundai Entourage / Kia Sedona but suspect this technique would work on minivan sliding door, or any vehicle door for that matter.

My 2006 Kia Sedona had the same problem, after this video, it has taken me all of 10 seconds to fix the latch. Thank you.

Thanks, man! Holding the door handle open while jimmying the closed latch was the trick I couldn't figure out. Worked like a charm! Much better than the long video with the Eastern European fella who did everything but take the engine out to fix the same problem.

Happened after a winter car wash when everything was frozen. Sprayed some WD-40 in there and then did this trick to get it working again. Thanks!

Thanks for the video. Just fixed my 2008 Kia Sedona! Oh and btw the car has to be on for the latch to spring. I was fiddling around forever until I turned the car on and fixed it in a second.

2012 Kia Sedona doing the same thing. With that door not shutting properly it ran the battery down completely problem is fixed.Thanks

One Key to note as well... Make sure the door is unlocked.... sounds like a no brainer but if it is not working there is generally a reason.

Exact same problem my van had this morning. Totally random.
I remember it being totally random when it happened to me too. Has happened 1-2 more times since then (even on different vehicles) and this trick saved the day. Thanks for the note!
Thank you so much for posting this! This problem hit me at a bad time today,. Are problems ever at a good time??? The part I didn't know about was pulling on the handle... On some other cars I've had, you could just tap the latch bar with a screwdriver and that was enough... Hyundai doesn't work that way... Thanks again!

I just spent 800 bucks on the front end of my 2007 entourage with 210K miles on it. I think I've lost my mind
Lol. You know, I might have thought you had lost your mind but I've been looking around at used cars a bit lately and I find the price of everything is ridiculous and often for absolute garbage. If your van is working well and you still like it, paying 800 to get some more years out of it is genius in my opinion!!
@fixingrandomcrap I tuned it up and it goes like stink, lots of power in this engine and entourage has a sporty look too. I usually drive them til I have to hitch hike away from it on the highway
i have sort of different issue that door same door drivers side won't open it'll open maybe inch and stop. i've this video hoping see if i can lift that bar but door doesn't open up enough you barely get anyting in there ?

Which way shoukd u push the lock, also I pushed it upwards it closed but problem came back, any ideas
So you want to push the locking tab up so the mouth is open and the latch can go into it. If that makes sense? As for it coming back, I'd suggest spraying some grease into the mechanism there and move it around to really get it greased up. Might help it from sticking. Or it might just need some service ... this video is more to help resolve the issue when the door just won't close, so it's hard to drive anywhere. No promises on how long the fix lasts. :) Good luck and let us know how it goes!!
I can push mine up but everytime I pull the handle to open it flips back down and I have to manually push it back up everytime to close ugh.

Hi Megan, you mean to get it to start closing? I didn't have to pull on it very hard. That was really a separate issue than the one with the latching documented in this video. If it's not starting to close on it's own, I'd check to make sure the power button is on for the sliding door, and if so, it could be a battery issue or maybe something with the sliding door motor. That said I'm certainly not an expert. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!!

@@janetlau539 Thanks for the note ... do you mean the latch/piece that has the notch in it inside the door? I would suggest hitting it with some lubricant. Like lots of it. Get a screwdriver in there and try to get it moving a bit. Then try pulling on the door handle to release it and use the screwdriver to hopefully move it. Sounds like maybe it is seized?

In Aus, latch assy-RR HY-814104H000 they reckon $170 for part.

@@fixingrandomcrap thanks for getting back to me. It’s the latch on the door. The same one you got open with the screw driver. The problem is I push it down and it doesn’t latch at all. When I am driving the door just flings open
Oof sounds intense. If opening while driving i suggest getting it into a shop for inspection!! Let us know how it goes!!

Seems to be resolved for me but I'm told to keep it from happening again, spraying some wd40 into the area will help keep it lubricated so it doesn't get stuck.

@@fixingrandomcrap some times it closes sometimes it makes a couple of clicking noises then the back end pops out a bit so if you push on it it closes.

@@fixingrandomcrap thanks for attention. I put wd 40 and the door is better. But the another side have been started not work good. Again, I put oil. A engineer told me that the problem is door lock and it will be need to replacement...
@@rafaelmesquita9094 Gotcha. Interesting as I am experiencing a similar issue in my 2015 Sedona. Apparently the door latch or some part of that mechanism needs replacing ... over 800 bucks new for the part. Hoping to find one in a scrapyard!! Thanks for the update and good luck!
