Brookings is a city located in the southern part of the state of Oregon, near the border with California. It is situated on the Pacific Ocean and is known for its mild climate and beautiful beaches. Brookings is considered as the southernmost town in Oregon. The city is also home to the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center, which features a variety of shops and restaurants.
One of the main attractions in Brookings is the Harris Beach State Park, which offers camping, picnicking, beachcombing, and hiking opportunities.

I think the first half of the video of the drive through town was sped up and narrated. The speed limit through town is 20 mph downtown and then 35 until your past Harris Beach state park. In the video it looks like people drive very fast in town! Not the case at all, it actually takes about twice as long to get through town as on the video. I retired here from The San Francisco Bay Area in 2019 and love it here such a nice change from the craziness of California. Brookings is in Curry County and the motto here is no hurry in Curry.

Harbor to Harris beach is less than 3 miles. It takes 7 minutes to drive going the speed limit. It’s not sped up. It looks like people are going fast because the perspective outside the car(where the camera is) is different than inside a car.

The southern OR coast is my favorite. I've lived north in Newport & Astoria while I was in the Coast Guard-while nice has much more tourist traffic than south of Coos Bay. This is due to less direct access to the I5 corridor. Perfect for me, I spend time every year for the past 9 years or so on the OR coast. Starting to look for a lot to build a small house on & keep my 5th wheel rv when I'm not on the road.

I’ve traveled the Oregon coast several times.
It is both spectacular and incredibly frustrating.
The natural beauty is amazing. Huge empty beaches, dunes, rivers, dramatic cliffs, coastal lakes, awesome views.
But the towns are mostly one disappointment after another. Vape and assorted pot paraphernalia shops, tired storefronts, neglected public facilities, “adult”oriented stores….you name it.
The nicest town in Oregon I’ve been to is Bend…at least in the quaint downtown riverside area.
It’s too bad there’s nothing similar on the coast.
And then there’s Oregons crazy high taxes.
Oregon is the land of missed and squandered opportunities.

Frankly, it's a lot better than it used to be. Try Manzanita or Cannon Beach.

I like paying taxes. That’s the cost of civilization.
But I don’t like drugs and despair.

Thank You Paul & Seth. We enjoyed your driving and bird's view of the Brookings/Harbor area. Keep up the good work of providing a balanced view of the possibilities of moving to the southern Oregon Coast. Take Care, Bob

In the first video, a couple of the homes to the left are sitting on a ravine that was filled in with garbage and junk cars. I lived there and while walking on that,(public access), beach you can see some of them sticking out from the bushes and trees. This happened many many years ago so the ground may have settled through the years. Nothing new, my place in Smith River along HWY 101, has old roadside areas where people back in the day did the drive-by garbage dump and runs.

I just watched your video on Newport's Nye Beach neighborhood and I wish all your videos contained the walking tours of the business districts just like Nye Beach. Driving tours are good but I personally like to see storefronts, homes and parks to decide if I'm interested in a particular town. @RickClark's comment below was especially accurate-- many of these towns have an empty, rundown quality that are a missed opportunity to bring more people into the area. More people than ever are looking to move elsewhere post-Covid, myself included.
Your video description mentioned Brookings Harbor shopping center but didn't include any video of the town center, which is what I was hoping to see! I already know the coastline is spectacular but want to see (and hear your opinion) what the town is like. Thanks!!

These videos are really helping my wife and I see the Oregon coast, and get a great idea about the areas of where we want to buy. We are looking at 1 year to 18 mo. Making the move for our final retirement home. We are hoping for oceanfront property with a 3-4 bed 4 bath with room for a shop, large raised bed garden and outdoor entertainment & kitchen under 1M if possible.

Just fine in my experience. You will find some things on well water on the Oregon Coast though. In which case it will depend on the well and plumbing.
