South Coast??

Gotta love how we have North Bend, which is south of Bend, while Washington has South Bend (but no Bend or North Bend). Lol. Makes sense. Probably was on a bender when they named them or something 😏 As a life long and multi-generational Oregonian, Newport has been my favorite place on the coast, alongside Astoria (though technically Astoria is inland by 4 miles). I've unfortunately not yet been to the South Coast (never been south of Waldport) but would love to spend plenty of time snooping around and enjoying myself there. Towns, and the wilds. Seems like the most picturesque and quiet part of the coast for sure! I won't out my other locations and towns though to keep them our own safe-kept secret from the out of state folks so they stay nice, quiet and peaceful haha.

I've read crime is high in Florence.

Many things have changed since this video..was interesting to watch because i hadnt realized how much it had, until i saw this. Buoy Beer (good part of it) collapsed into the river and is currently being demolished (finally). JCPenney closed, and is now Vintage Hardware.

I live in Astoria. The population drop is possibly reflecting the number of homes that are now vacation homes that the owners visit (maybe) twice a year, and the homes turned into vacation rentals/airbnb's. There's a ton of them. It's not for lack of people wanting to move here. Seaside is..well..not what it once was 🤐. It wasnt that long ago that Seaside was national news when it was revealed the Mexican cartel has Seaside as one of their "spots" for trafficking.

I moved to Newport 30 years ago. I'm a credentialed professional. I married someone who was born here. Between us, we've raised seven children. From as early as we could discuss the issue, we've told all of them that they could not stay in Newport. Honestly, unless you have some credentials, the incomes here do not support a happy life. They have moved to the Willamette valley and California and all are doing well. The high cost of living and lack of jobs that pay a decent wage that can support a life here are a problem. There are some large businesses such as Georgia Pacific but the mainstays from the past like commercial fishing are slowly going away. Unless you're able to work remotely with the substantial income, the coast is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't recommending trying to make a life here.

Seth, the main issue I have with North Bend/Coos Bay Area is the wind, especially in the summer. This is probably the thing about this area that I don't care for (3:50) not the crime or homelessness!

Seaside is wonderful in the off season. 😂

If you need to go somewhere larger than Roseburg, Eugene is quite a bit closer than Portland -- about 2.5 - 2.75 hours from Bandon, or a tad more than that.

Brookings definitely does not have the warmest summers in Oregon. 😊 Probably gets hotter in Portland. ... warmest winters, yeah that sounds quite possible.

Just got back from a week stay at Waldport. Was looking at properties for sale. We saw many home for sale with 25 k price reduction one was reduced by 75 k in 5 months on the market. Nice reportthats

Beautiful place but not great for young adults. Not enough opportunity for jobs, entertainment ect. Better for the retired folks. As for the weather a good rain coat and boots and warmer clothing is necessary. If you have any seasonal depression issues definitely an issue and plan on using your vitamin d. Part of being a coastal rain forest and the beautiful nature.

Heads up if your over 65 it’s not for you. Zero to little no healthcare. The entire Oregon coast is like that.

I grew up in Newport. 10 years in Nye Beach, 5 years in South Beach. It's a magical place. It is kinda expensive. Newport's housing market is similar to Portland. Newport is better than Lincoln City IMHO. Newport has a better: geographic layout, walk-ability, two lighthouses, a spectacular bridge, centralized city-center, aquarium, marine science center (that is a branch of OSU), NOAA, a better seafood industry... Lincoln City is really long and stretches on and on (the summer traffic!) breaking up any chance for a good city hub. This is due to the fact that LC is actually 5 smaller communities that joined and became LC in the 60s. Fun vid. Nice recap.

I wouldnt in a million years! Do you remember 2011 in Japan? We have the Cascadia subduction fault right off our coast. And it's gonna snap . When it does. It will make Japan's quakes look like a tiny wave.. But go ahead live the dream.

When the Sun Goes Down on the coast the fog comes up. It's Misty and cold and most people would just stay in. One of the reasons everything closes early. Same or more so for the Washington coast.

Lived in Reedsport a lot of my life. Always counted Winchester Bay as a part of Reedsport. Ocean is still right there.

Does Seaside have a good healthcare sector? I’m currently in nursing school but looking at my options after I graduate. I’m living in my hometown of Sacramento but I want to live near the ocean due to increasing summer temps. My goal was to move to the Bay Area or San Diego but housing here is getting bad and the expenses are going up. A couple of my friends have moved up north so I’m thinking of doing the same if things don’t work out for me in California.

Why move to Texas like 100s of thousands have done in the past 10 years. It’s 100 degrees and 70% humidity in Dallas Texas right now, 7/1/2025. It feels like 110. Sweaty hot and sticky. I’ll take the worst of a place like Oregon any day.

Spanish Head is a cool motel but I don’t think it is nearly as popular of a resort as the one with 5 restaurants and a golf course. Have you ever done anything other than drive through Lincoln City and check it’s Wikipedia?

Could you make a video on buying a used manufactured home? They are so prevalent in the Florence area where I am looking (online, from afar). I'm not asking about communities -- info like that is googleable. But building specifics such as: Why don't realtors post the serial number and brand name of the home? Is t111 siding worthless after 30 years? Is a 40+ year old manufactured home in Florence a waste of money? Can you pick up hints about the foundation by looking at some detail in the listing photo? Are there clues to whether the building is insulated? Do older manufactured homes have non-standard door and window sizes and plumbing that make it hard to find parts and labor to repair them? Is it even harder to find repair people for manufacture homes than it is for regular homes? Are they more susceptible to mold than traditional structures?

Drinking water is the biggest reason for the towns not expanding. We need to be careful about expanding the towns too quickly.

COME ON, MAN! SHOW MY TOWN; NOT YOUR FACE!! 🤔 Sad tourism has taken over. The Seaside aquarium IS "THE" AQUARIUM, and was there years before the Newport one. Rain IS Seaside weather! LOL 😂You dont have to own a house to live there. You can rent an apartment/bungalow on the back side of the town; where all the murders arent hsppening, drunken tourists being loud at night when you have to wake up early for work! 🙄( We can thank all the drunken tourist)

I have been watching your videos this week because we are going to the coast for a vacation. This video has the background music too high and it's competing with your monologue. It is also not a soothing toon. I will try to get thru the video but it is like water torture. Generally I have loved your videos. Great channel.

Any updates on Newport OR?

We bought a house in Florence that we will live in when I retire. Part of the reason is our doctors, dentist etc., are all in Eugene. We can do our annual and non emergency appointments easily, it's about an hour and 15 minute drive. There is an ER and hospital in Florence as well.

I love Seaside. I was just there a few months back. And yes, the natives are rightfully upset with being essentially priced out of their backyard. It's a strange predicament since roughly 85-95% of their economy is driven by tourism.

I love sea side, Warrenton, Astoria, long Beach ilwaco Washington is an awesome place to live.

Horrible medical and dental system, rain will get you down if you let it, too many homeless druggies and transients, weird tendency of contractors & workers to no show, no call. Higher costs for pretty much all food, disposables and building supplies. Don't mention you are from CA, you will get rude comments, but only for the first two years, lol. But, if you enjoy nature it has the most awesome uncrowded beaches, nearby national forest and an easy access port to the ocean. I cruised for nearly 5 hours thru the national forests the other day and saw one other vehicle. Amazing, rugged and beautiful.

If you move to the southern coast be ready to wait for months for a contractor. And be prepared to pay more to bring them from inland. We waited 6 months for a new roof, 3 months for new flooring and had to bring in window replacement people from 2 1/2 hours away. You will be waiting to get into any kind of doctor, if you can even find the doctor you need in your area.

Paul, it's interesting that you should compose a subject such as this one! because my wife and I recently visited Brookings and we particularly liked it; I even thought of maybe relocating there one day. But I learned while we were there that there was no hospital in Brookings (even though they have a adequate medical clinic), and was told by the staff at the medical clinic that if I would need emergency treatment I would have to be taken to the hospital at Gold Beach (about 30 minutes away). I'm a disabled person in a wheelchair and regularly need some hospital treatment. I go to the Bay Area Hospital in North Bend/Coos Bay for my medical needs.

cold, wet, dreary, no summer-just an early spring...Had the worst healthcare in Florence. The doctor has a reputation too, he is just repulsive.

About 8 years ago we bought a small (800sq foot) cabin in Coast village in Florence off of Spruce St. For now it is a vacation home for us. We got it for a pretty good price, even then. Coast Village is a unique place, there is an HOA but we do own our lot as well. My neighbor has the lot next to us and they just bring their trailer in when they are there, so there's a lot of different options.
