    Smart to mention the wind. And ya,, a block or two can make a big difference! But in general it’s windy. Great video.

    Good help is hard to find. Even if they call you back, they may not show up. They also charge both arms and one leg. It's good to learn some DIY and gardening skills if you live here.
    Safeway prices are outrageous. It's Windy most days, start out c a lm but expect it to become windy. Dont expect weed-free yard, not happening. Weeds are a staple here. If you build, make sure it's a strong fence: high winds will destroy it. If there's deer and elk, Unless you have a fence, elk and deer will enter, invited or not. They will eat most plants that are labeled deer-resistant.
    Elk will make a mess and kick your mulch into piles. They also leave 💩 everywhere.
    Avoid any metal except stainless steel. It will rust in short time. Expect a lot of tourists in summer.
    If you build a home on the coast, I recommend you get a local builder to make sure it's built for the area. The winter storms are no joke. In December 2008, we had storm that lasted three days straight with over 100 mph wind gusts. I don't recall what sustained winds were. We lost power for 6 days. Every tree in my community went down. One neighbor lost half the roof on their house. That was an unusual year. Winds gusts are normally 60 to 75 up yo 80 mph, depending on the area.

    You did not mention Grocery Outlets in Coos Bay, Brookings, Florence, Newport!

    Very objective analysis. Moved from Southern Ca. to Brookings 15 years ago. Love it. Medical was and is a problem but getting better. Shopping is limited but Amazon seems to filll that gap. Glad I moved, you bet. Would I want to move back,, no way!

    I’ve been to Oregon coast couple of times. I’ve experienced many of the negatives you’ve touched on. Portland sucks.

    I was looking at a property on the outskirts of Bandon that needs a water well drilled. The local well drilling company said it would be about 18 months before they could get to it. They also said there have been several inquiries about drilling on that property, none have followed through.

      Pretty common. Have to have time on your side if you want to get anything done down there.

    Good stuff and informative. Thank you. It's a heartbreaker a bit, that coast, so dang beautiful but like you say, still developing. I want to live there, Costco or not! Why isn't there a Costco around Newport? Idk.

    • @LivingOnTheOregonCoast
      @LivingOnTheOregonCoast  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would imagine they’ll be a Costco somewhere on the central coast or near the central coast at some point. For now we just have the Costco in Warrenton.

      Yep. We live in Waldport, so we need to drive to the "big city" of Newport just to go to a Fred Meyer. Costco, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. all require a trip into the "valley"; Corvallis, Albany, Eugene.

    Is there much opportunity for someone to buy/build a small (10-40 acre) hobby farm in the hills along the coast? By "along the coast" I mean within 10-15 miles of the actual coast. My preference would be to be up in the hills above the coastal towns, north to mid coast.

    • @LivingOnTheOregonCoast
      @LivingOnTheOregonCoast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, although I see more of what you're describing down south. 10-15 miles is going to put you into the coastal mountain range. You can find acreage into the coastal range all along the Oregon coast. Finding a builder is a different story.

    What i don't like about the Oregon coast is people moving here.😂

    • @LivingOnTheOregonCoast
      @LivingOnTheOregonCoast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand the feeling. But I also look at some of the few small towns that don’t attract people along the Oregon coast, and those towns are very economically depressed.

    What about the community, I have seen a lot of bullying on social media of minorities, alternate lifestyles and just judgemental comments.......is that the norm there?

      We are all pretty cool here. We have diversity in all areas. The people are kind, they look out for each other. I haven't experienced anything anywhere that was unkind Come see it, it is amazingly beautiful.
