  • @samgab
    @samgab 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    It really is “adaptive” cruise control: “Called in BMW speak Active Cruise Control (ACC), it is a brand new system that has been developed together with Bosch. It can automatically regulate the speed at which the bike is traveling based on the speed set by the rider and the distance to the vehicle driving in front.
    The system will try to maintain the distance from the vehicle in front as set by the rider, who can choose one of three settings. To calculate the distance, ACC uses a radar fitted at the front of the motorcycle, and it works together with some of the other systems on the two-wheeler, including the brakes and the ABS system.
    The system can detect only moving vehicles, and will not react to stopped cars or traffic lights, BMW warns.
    According to company, the new system is also able to automatically reduce speed during lean angle cornering, while at the same time trying to keep acceleration and deceleration within tolerable limits during an increased angle cornering.”

  • @dashford06
    @dashford06 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What I’ve heard, and this comes from BMW insiders, is that their undoing at the SBK level is the factory’s insistence on using their own electronics rather than the Magneti Marelli components the other teams all use. Let’s hope that Van Der Mark and Sykes can put this one on the podium next year. Sick of BMW winning in superstock form but missing the boat on SBK trim. However, if they haven’t solved the electronics issues, not sure how far this homologation special will really get them.

    The current bike makes massive power, but doesn't respond that well to further tuning- the new one will I'm sure. The new cam profiles have shifted the power up the rev range a touch, the bike has slightly lower gearing, so thrust in each gear will more than match the s1000rr's, but will be noticeably quicker over the last 2/2,500 revs - ideal for the track ..... or setting new records at the Isle of Man, 137 mph lap ? on the super stocker !

    I'm actually looking to get a new bike, primarily for track use (but should remain road legal mostly to get around the annoying customs situation here). I was looking forward to this finally being announced but it seems to be tough to justify. I can get a base model, replace the suspension, rearsets, fairings, exhaust and if needed brakes for the price of the M. Or get V4S and tweak it a bit. Not for me I guess.

    As cool as it is, the only thing that I can see actually helping the SBK teams is the change of geometry. All those fancy titanium internals are going to be ripped out and changed to SBK spec parts anyway.

    2 ring pistons? I hope they last long enough on the road. Knowing BMW, these engines will need to be rebuilt every 10k miles.

    Adaptive cruise control may be if you go up a hill it maintains speed, same as going down - it adapts to maintain selected speed? So basically not a throttle lock. Would have thought they'd all do that but whatever.

    A 2 ring piston will use more oil than a standard 3 ring piston. You’ll definitely have to check the oil often.

    Don’t get me wrong... this new BMW is a great bike. But unless you’re on track often (or only) - you’d be better off with a smaller, cheaper bike that’s actually easier to ride in town, cities, on country roads etc.
    These monster 1000s are really too much for the roads to actually use anywhere near the power they make.

    Nice and all that but they’re having a laugh at 31k and it still being on stock suspension. You could build a base model up with ktech or ohlins and run the alpha kit on it for a lot less and end up with a better bike (outside of superbike) in my opinion.
    I got offered a new sport for 14k earlier this year... suspension, system (because this m1000 this has the cats) mcrk or whatever it’s called electronics, swap the Calipers. Race fairings and off you go. Save yourself a fortune and not care so much when you end over end it and also have a more focussed machine.
    I see totally why they’ve done it though. It’s purely a superbike exercise. The swing arm extension and brakes are a good move though.
    Very pretty

    It will be interesting to see if that £12k over standard translates to the same lap times as a stock bike with £6k of aftermarket upgrades (in normal hands)? Also, having owned ‘M’ cars I completely get the annoyance of the ubiquitous M badgery on base model cars. It’s all a bit ‘Max Power’ vulgarity for what purports to be a premium brand.

    Quick question to all that are in the know, on the S100 RR M they have badged "BMW" breaks on the front made by Hayes and Brembo's at the rear.... i was under the impression that Brembo owned Hayes, with this in mind, and given the spec of the S1000 RR M, are these not essentially Brembo's on the front anyway?
    Not really bothered as for the riding I will be doing I think they are more than adequate for UK roads, just a case of getting the final bit of cash together so not to upset the wife too much
