Pete and Toshi Seeger documented work songs of a fishing community in Ghana, the West-African roots of the work-song tradition shown in the films "Afro American Worksongs in a Texas Prison" and "Gandy Dancers".
beautiful.love my country!!
I found the 13 minute version on folkstreams.net. Wonderful to fall asleep to.
Beautiful to see, hear and feel.
I REALLY MISSED HOME AFTER WATCHING THIS MOVIE. IT BROUGHT MEMORIES BACK.
I think it's so interesting that no matter what part of the world you're living in. If you get a group of blacks together they will make the same sound. A unique sound of hormony. Only difference are maybe instruments....but the voices are the same. Very beautiful.
Those rowers at the minute mark would kick ass in a scull or other boat race.
Beatiful!
One thing us African Americans haven't lost ,...Being able to harmonize..
Bring back memories
No wonder today my class talked about this
Very great!!!!!! thx
fantes some whr in cape coast
Nice.
The vocal harmonies beginning at 0:45 are freaking amazing! These people are great; I love reading about how many of the tribes within the Wolof had different sets of music for each different task in their daily lives.
Wonderful. Got any more? Thanks for this.
The same method the used to built the pyramid
That is some hard core rowing at 0:58
I remember this song from the eighties.
erm, these are traditional folk music
It feels so familiar, I feel like I was there.
U WASN'T
I wonder if there's any way to know whether the Egyptians who built the pyramids sang songs like this while working. They certainly would have wanted something musical to take their minds off the strain of dragging big stone blocks up those ramps.
Where do I get these songs
At 0:58 they were rowing hard body lol
Any ideas when was this recorded? Great stuff!
1964. The complete film is here. www.folkstreams.net/film,123
