Also do you keep all regions active or do you only use per region you flying in like ik you got all the regions downloaded but do you keep all the regions active or disable whatever region you not using ??
Nicely explained. An awesome alternative to Ortho4XP but I wish they provided Google as a Map type option. In creating my Terabytes of ortho photos with Orhto4XP I primarily used Google as it had the fewest anomalies. Can you please explain when the 'Save' button is used? Thanks, thumbs up and subscribed!
Thank you! I really do appreciate your kind words and subscription! The save button should be used only when changing any of the directories in the settings. Once AutoOrtho has been setup there isn't really a use for the save button. And yes I do wish they included Google. For Ortho4XP I generally use either Bing or Arc depending on the quality or area as I find that with Google it highlights the cities and they end up looking very strange. But yes having the option for good would be great!
If I'm not mistaken, if you press right click over the scenery.ini file, properties, you can select the file for read only, thus xplane will not overwrite the file

If you have it installed for Xplane 12 can you set it up for Xplane 11 without downloading anything else? Like you can do with using a central scenery repository and then using shortcuts or symbolic links in the custom scenery folder? Thanks
Yes you can, all you need to do is first create a shortcut of "z_AutoOrtho" and "yAutoOrtho_Overlays" and send the shortcut to your X-Plane 11 custom scenery folder. now all you need to do is change the "X-Plane Install Dir" to your XP11 Folder. this should mean that the symbolic links will be sent to the XP11 custom scenery folder instead of the XP12 folder. all you have to do is make sure you swap the "X-Plane Install Dir" back to the XP12 folder when you want to use AutoOrtho for Xp12 again. This will only work for the latest version so i suggest upgrading. to upgrade simply run the new installer from the github and thats it. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask :)
I found this video helpful, but one of the issues is that I installed one scenery and more than 30 minute later, the message said, "DONE downloading". Im assuming its ready but when spawning in the airport, the scenery didnt load up and I check auto ortho and found out I have to install again. As I know earlier, when its "DONE downloading", the working button still there.
Yes I recently reinstalled AutoOrtho and had a similar issue. However mine still worked and after a few uses it registered the base scenery pack as being installed. After it finished downloading the base scenery packages and you loaded X-Plane did you definitely click "run"?

Hello, could you send a screenshot of what it looks like in my discord in the x-plane help section. Sometimes autoortho doesn't detect that you have the base scenery packages installed and therefore prompts you to install them. For me this went away after a couple of flights with autoortho and it returned to normal :)

Hello, So I managed to finally get auto-ortho working for me BUT now I came across a problem in the .INI File. I saved for example "custom scenery/z_ao_aus_pac/" right below my auto-ortho overlays and everything else BUT every time I run auto-ortho and then XPL12, for some reason it MOVES that particular file back up to the top of the .INI file of everything else and now I don't have any autogen buildings, airport textures etc. Any ideas?
You don't need to make the shortcuts yourself. The program should do it for you as long as your directories are set correctly and you have either Dokan or WinFSP installed. If you have any issues you can confirm it's "mounted" the files by checking the log tab once you have started autoortho and it should tell you that they are successfully mounted and that the diagnostic has passed :)
Im trying to install the Australia Pacific set, but its just continuing to say working. Even after the Logs says it is good, it isn't properly installed?
also, if im using autoortho on windows, is it possible to use it along with ortho4xp tiles or should i delete all my ortho4xp tiles if im running autoortho, one more question, is it compatiable with orbx true earth etc and how would the load order for scenery.ini be like? thx alot!!
To use it with Ortho4XP tiles just place the ortho4xp tile above AutoOrtho in your .ini file. Also I think it should be compatible with orbx as long as orbx is above autoortho in the .ini file.
If using with orbx it won't actually change anything however since the orbx will take priority. But if you then fly somewhere without orbx it will work

No you don't need to remove them. You can keep than and place them above AutoOrtho in the .ini file so that when you have regular ortho it uses those. Then when you don't it will use AutoOrtho

Thanks for the kind comments. Regarding the sceneries, it depends on if AutoOrtho updates then or if they change the location of them. Maybe not everytime but probably for major updates.

First ensure that your scenery_packs.ini is definitely correct Also make sure that you don't have any airport mesh for that area as that can cause a conflict and mean any ortho will not show Hope this helps and feel free to join my discord (linked in the description)
Ive downloaded 0.70 and there is nothing called "X-plane scenery dir" instead there are "scenery install dir" "X-plane install dir" and i am not sure what to do....? If you know how to do it correctly can you please tell me? Thank you
Yes the newer versions have slightly different install directories. Point the "scenery install dir" to you custom scenery folder in xplane. Then point the "xplane install dir" to the root xplane folder! Hope this helps and feel free to join my discord (linked in the description)

Hmm interesting... are you running the latest version of both? I could recommend disabling windows firewall, defender and any other antivirus as they tend to slow the whole process down. They also tend to interfere with X-Plane. Additionally just rerunning the installer for AutoOrtho or starting as administrator may help. If you have any more question then please don't me know! My order is the same as yours and I run auto ortho first before xplane but it says its unable to load the custom scenery for North America (the z_ao_na). Its location in the ini file is as in the video, between the overlay at the top and the autoortho at the bottom. All three lines are at the very bottom of the text file. What can I do to fix this?
Hi there, join my discord as we have a discussion there about this. It seems to be a common issue and so far it's been very difficult to fix. A couple of thing I can suggest is a reinstall or the sceneries, or try using WinFSP instead.
@@DrishalMAC2 I think internet connection is not a problem because I did not have the issue in past versions. But what happens is when close to the ground tiles get blocky, it goes away at higher altitudes.
@cutepaw99 this is a common issue, I've heard that version 0.5.1-3 does not have this issue so I would recommend upgrading or downgrading to that version
Yep that's a new thing. I'm not sure what it's for but just set it to your X-Plane root folder and your good to go. The rest of the install is the same.
Checked the video to confirm that 5+ just does not work for a lot of people. I am a developer and tried various combinations of installation, one of the simplest add-ons to install but, 5+ does just does not work for lots...
Hello, Auto Ortho will not work for me. I only have the base file for Europe and can fly anywhere else but Europe. When attempting to fly in Europe I get error loading Custom Scenery/z_ao_eur/ and, X-Plane cannot run with this installed. I have followed you guide for this and the scenery.ini format. Any help would be appreciated

I've tried this a few times now but it doesn't work. I just cycles indefinitely in the command window and says things like, "GET_IMG: FAILED!" over and over again and never loads. I have a pretty bulky PC and rather fast internet so it shouldn't be that. But, at the same time, if it works for almost everyone else and not me it's clearly something at my end. Oh well. I tried. ok so it worked but i dont want default ortho i want Bing images but when i select the map type override to BI it still wont work I've tried to reinstall this 3 times i need help please!

When you say it won't open, do you mean the AutoOrtho application? WinFSP and Dokan are just to "mount" the scenery packages once they are downloaded. Which part of the installtion process are you at? :)
Not necessary, but I did get issues with water once when I didn't select anything. You can just experiment and see which source works best. Generally I override it to bing but it depends on the area.
Depends on the area, your pc specs and your Internet connection. For me it normally takes apeund 10 mins to load without AutoOrtho and around 15 with AutoOrtho. But for the first time in an area it may take a lot longer so please be patient.
If you want to increase the minimum zoomlevel you need to go to your user folder, find the AutoOrtho.AutoOrtho file and change the minimum zoom level value. Default is 12 I believe. When I tried increasing it to 16 it massively increased my loading time so I set it back to the default.
Whats good man, I'm totally struggling to get it to install. I left Europe overnight, it downloads packs really fast but actual install took 12 hours to only get 2 out of 15 packs for Europe. I tried searching the whole internet, tried all I could but to no avail. Is there a way to make this thing install faster than a week per area? I ended up quitting and deleting everything, I really wanna get this to work.
No worries, some people have had this issue but they have had to just leave it and let it complete. I'm not too sure what else you could do other than trying a reinstall of the program. For 1 person they left it alone overnight and it eventually completed so you may just have to leave it to do that. Apparently after they installed one the rest were fine so you could also try a different base scenery pack to install?

Clear as mud! Not your fault but there is too much AutoOrtho it's confusing... Why is DCS so easy to install? OK I may be stupid but I don't get off on figuring out computer programs. "One Stop" shopping is needed one click for what you want and it works no problem. I was part of the team introducing CD, if we had said that you have to load such and such or learn binary code before use we wouldn't have sold many... P
Autoortho does have a fairly complex install process. However I would remind you that this software is still in beta and in testing. The likelihood is that that installtion process will he streamlined closer to its initial release (v1.0 0) thanks again!

The version does not I'd you exit using ctrl + c rather than the red x. A simple fix is also just setting the scenery.ini to read only

I downloaded 0.7.1. There are two fields - "Scenary Install dir:" AND "X-Plane instal dir:"... what path do I put for the first field?
For scenery install dir you need yo out your xplane custom scenery path.
Then for xplane install dir you need to put your root xplane folder path

It is temperamental but you can disable any antivirus and windows defender which seems to slow the download down

That needs to be set to just the root xplane folder. So the folder which has the X-Plane.exe inside :)

Hi, this Global scenery is not an expansion pack but it is part of the base simulator and is therefore compatible

Haha no worries! Dokan just allows the program to create mount points. I wouldn't worry too much about it once it's installed

So i am doing this for the first time and dokan installs fine and so it seems does autoortho but when i open autoortho nothing happens? the loading icon spins for like a sec and then nothing? am i missing something. First time doing this
Hmm interesting... are you running the latest version of both?
I could recommend disabling windows firewall, defender and any other antivirus as they tend to slow the whole process down. They also tend to interfere with X-Plane.
Additionally just rerunning the installer for AutoOrtho or starting as administrator may help.

My order is the same as yours and I run auto ortho first before xplane but it says its unable to load the custom scenery for North America (the z_ao_na). Its location in the ini file is as in the video, between the overlay at the top and the autoortho at the bottom. All three lines are at the very bottom of the text file. What can I do to fix this?
Hi there, join my discord as we have a discussion there about this. It seems to be a common issue and so far it's been very difficult to fix.
A couple of thing I can suggest is a reinstall or the sceneries, or try using WinFSP instead.
Autoortho isn't loading tiles very good. It takes time for tiles to be correctly placed. Long enough to ruin experience. Maybe a bug?
How long? Also for it to work properly you need a good Internet connection
@@DrishalMAC2 I think internet connection is not a problem because I did not have the issue in past versions. But what happens is when close to the ground tiles get blocky, it goes away at higher altitudes.
@cutepaw99 this is a common issue, I've heard that version 0.5.1-3 does not have this issue so I would recommend upgrading or downgrading to that version

Yep that's a new thing. I'm not sure what it's for but just set it to your X-Plane root folder and your good to go. The rest of the install is the same.

Checked the video to confirm that 5+ just does not work for a lot of people. I am a developer and tried various combinations of installation, one of the simplest add-ons to install but, 5+ does just does not work for lots...

Hello, Auto Ortho will not work for me. I only have the base file for Europe and can fly anywhere else but Europe. When attempting to fly in Europe I get error loading Custom Scenery/z_ao_eur/ and, X-Plane cannot run with this installed. I have followed you guide for this and the scenery.ini format. Any help would be appreciated

I've tried this a few times now but it doesn't work. I just cycles indefinitely in the command window and says things like, "GET_IMG: FAILED!" over and over again and never loads. I have a pretty bulky PC and rather fast internet so it shouldn't be that. But, at the same time, if it works for almost everyone else and not me it's clearly something at my end. Oh well. I tried. How to you tell which version you have? If you have an older version do you need to reinstall or delete any files ?
When did you install it? Also yes with the new version you must reinstall everything from scratch, including the base scenery packages

That would be the old version then. Probably 4.4.1 or 5.0. The latest is 5.1 so i'de recommend upgrading to the latest version.

The default is bing which is probably why you aren't seeing a difference :)
I recommend bing anyway as for most areas it looks great!

When you say it won't open, do you mean the AutoOrtho application? WinFSP and Dokan are just to "mount" the scenery packages once they are downloaded. Which part of the installtion process are you at? :)

Not necessary, but I did get issues with water once when I didn't select anything. You can just experiment and see which source works best. Generally I override it to bing but it depends on the area.

Depends on the area, your pc specs and your Internet connection. For me it normally takes apeund 10 mins to load without AutoOrtho and around 15 with AutoOrtho. But for the first time in an area it may take a lot longer so please be patient.

How do you configure the zoom level?
If you want to increase the minimum zoomlevel you need to go to your user folder, find the AutoOrtho.AutoOrtho file and change the minimum zoom level value. Default is 12 I believe. When I tried increasing it to 16 it massively increased my loading time so I set it back to the default.

Whats good man, I'm totally struggling to get it to install. I left Europe overnight, it downloads packs really fast but actual install took 12 hours to only get 2 out of 15 packs for Europe. I tried searching the whole internet, tried all I could but to no avail. Is there a way to make this thing install faster than a week per area? I ended up quitting and deleting everything, I really wanna get this to work.

No worries, some people have had this issue but they have had to just leave it and let it complete. I'm not too sure what else you could do other than trying a reinstall of the program.
For 1 person they left it alone overnight and it eventually completed so you may just have to leave it to do that. Apparently after they installed one the rest were fine so you could also try a different base scenery pack to install?

Autoortho does have a fairly complex install process. However I would remind you that this software is still in beta and in testing. The likelihood is that that installtion process will he streamlined closer to its initial release (v1.0 0) thanks again!
