The escalating Thargoid war and the machinations of Caleb “the Witch” Wycherly, otherwise known as Salvation, have dominated the Galnet News Headlines in Elite Dangerous in recent months.
The conflict with the mysterious Alien threat is seriously heating up and if you’ve never tried Anti Xeno combat or have perhaps been a little intimidated by it before now, it could seem like you’re about to be left even further behind.
In this video we’re going to go over why that actually isn’t the case and in fact there may never have been a better time to jump in and give bug stomping a try.

I've been here long enough to remember when Brother Sabathius was role-playing as a mendicant monk CMDR, subsisting on the alms of strangers.
I’m about seven thousand light years outside the bubble at the moment and it’s kind of tempting to head back.
I tried AX once before. Died instantly. After researching, I purchased another Chieftain. Built it up over the years. Now I'm gathering materials to unlock the modified Gauss Cannons.
I play Elite effectively now, all my ships have 1 job.
Thanks for urinating in my soup, here's me thinking I'd suddenly turned into a Thargoid killing Terminator and it turns out they've just been dumbed down. Oh well, I've never taken down so many in such a short space of time, I'm claiming that as a victory

Nice filming! I'm not taking part in Salvation's plans due to my views in the whole xenocide debate, but the AX conflict zones look really cool! Looking forward to seeing what happens over the coming weeks o7
If a Hydra targets you, drop a heatsink and run. Run far, run fast or you'll be looking at a rebuy within seconds.
Agreed! I tried my hand at a Medusa with a buddy a while back thinking we were tough because we got our cyclops 2v1 kills down. We got wrecked haha with that being said a hydra is the next and highest level and it blows my mind people can solo them!

Before these Capital Ship AXI zones appeared, I'd only killed 2 cyclops, and with help. I checked out these new zones primarily because I wanted to see the capital ships in action, but stayed because the fights were much easier! Now I'm over 20 interceptor kills and got my first Basilisk -- and I know that's not a big deal for some, but it is to me. These zones are pretty fun, and definitely a great way to learn how to fight scouts and interceptors alike!
I think a first Basilisk is one of the biggest deals, as they are so much harder than cyclops, probably the biggest single jump in difficulty.
I recently picked up interest in Thargoid hunting.
I ventured into HIP 22460 and I found nothing there but a system where everything was unexplored, no navigation beacon or marked location. Only debris fields and the remains of those capital ships, which triggered a visit from an Thargoid interceptor if youu got too close....
Settlement fights are even better since there are no Thargon swarms to deal with.
Guardian AI is gonna reappear due to Salvations efforts. Neither Thargoid or Human will be safe.
Watching those Farragut-Class Battlecruisers go to town on those Thargoid Scouts and Interceptors was a surreal sight to behold, thanks for the top-quality footage!
The passive swarm bug is affecting all AXCZs in that system, not just the ones at the capital ships.
I'm guessing that bug is over with the new update because whenever I join a conflict zone and the interceptor shows up, the swarm only targets me and not the NPC ships LOL

That kind of is what it is.
What I always had issues with is that it never really seemed feasible for me to fight in my preferred ship. The Federal Corvette. It's the main ship I generally fly in general.
I fight Goids in a Vette, you're ok up against Cyclops and Basilisk but after that you really need a cold orbiter or be in a wing.
I still sucked and lost a few Kraits harvesting Space Flowers. Usually the caustic damage gets me, but I was also toasted by a Hydra's lightning beams. But got a few lessons also in fighting them. What I did realise is that they move around a lot more than is apparent from many tutorial videos I have seen. It is not so easy to hit those exerted hearts. One thing I also learned is that it is vital to keep a few hull repairing limpets on the ship.
You inspired me, I just spent ages converting a coriolis Krait2 AX build into an EDOMH wishlist, I actually have many of the basics ready, thankfully, just need a handful of very specific things

I hope they keep this as an easing-in feature in the long run. Especially since I'm halfway from Colonia to Sag A*, and can't be bothered to turn around for now.
I have been out for so long that my fleet carrier got scuttled and now I have a bunch of credits to build a thargoid hunter. Literally only thing in Elite I haven't done.

Maybe a little tip for guardian sites. I put a point defense on my ship to take down the missles of the sentinels at the guardian sites.
As per the Guardian sites in Odyssey, I go to them often, as I help new Commanders at them by providing "air support" as it were, as well as directing them around the sites. I have found that the Sentinels in Odyssey take a lot longer for me to kill from my ship, versus in Horizons. It's been a couple of weeks since I have been out that way, but I will go back there soon to verify the lack of Sentinel missile attacks.
I was there recently. There are no missile attacks, which is a shame as it was cool seeing your PDCs firing off from the vantage point of your SRV.
I still think it's going to activate the Guardian AI fleet, then we'll have real problems.
The swarm is the difficult part I can handle the interceptor and with the swarm not working it's proven it
Man, I cannot wait until September. I'm ready to REALLY play ED again. After I get my console transfer I'll be jumping in on this.

Inspired by your comments to this effect in a previous vid I have been having a go a Thargoid combat, and finally having good fun. Previously haven't been skilled enough to handle the fight, but this is a great time to ease into it and get used to the different parts of the fight in a 'safe' space. Yesterday I helped kill several interceptors in the high CZ in just a cobra MK3 with beams and ax multis! Thanks for all your constructive and helpful content Cmdr Burr👍

I’ve spent all my time doing passenger and courier missions to get my imperial rank up since i started not too long ago. I have a Cutter but basically no weapons. I don’t even know where to start when it cones to thargoid combat. I imagine i’ll just be annihilated
AX zones are ace. Really enjoyed it. I'm flying a Chieftain with three Modded guardian shard cannon's and three healing beam lasers for my wing. 👍👍

easier when they're paying attention to you... but since they have so many targets, it's super hard to get a gauss cannon shot to land without it turning. Plus in Odyssey, the wavy trails behind them make them much harder to see when/where a heart is exerted. I'd rather flak a swam than this lol... maybe... still like it though!
Where do you find these "stories" in elite dangerous. I've over 3 weeks and 5 days of play time and I've found no story elements in the game.
It seems to me that any Thargon swarm in HIP 22460 is benign - not only at the mega ship sites, but also in the conflict zones.
I personally feel that this genocide is misplaced at best - but boy, it's fun killing the pulsating pansies!
I agree - it's a great place for beginners (I just killed my first!) not only because of the reduced Thargon threat but also because you're being helped by many other pilots (npc and real)
Just beware those humans that take delight in fighting on teh Thargon's side - so newer players, I would practice in solo!
The griefers were sorted out very fast where I played. Once they were identified in chat all players would target the griefers and send them to the rebuy screen very fast. So, do not shy away from Open. This was the first time I played Open and I loved it. The pay outs were also very nice.

I've seen a change in interceptor behaviour as well. The regular cyclops variants were, when fighting them alone, faster and only spamming their lightning attack. The thargons were pretty inagressive though. Has anyone else had these encounters?

Thanks for the video - totally agree. I did indeed jump in and build the Chieftain AX cold build - took a bit of engineering (inc 3 unlocks) to get it there. Started with scouts, pretty hard to get used to but great practice. Also shot a couple of Interceptor hearts but had to bail due to punishment. I reckon I'd change the build slightly and lose a gauss cannon in favour of another beam laser - I noticed OrbitalJeffo keeps his at
Part way through building one of the AXI recommend chiefs at the moment myself. I don't imagine I'll live long but it should be a scream 😂

I’m not getting bonds for destroying interceptors. Maybe every other kill. Anyone know how to get bonds every time you kill one in capital ship cz?
It seems to be a bug if the NPC's get the kill shot
What I love about this, and the other Burr Pit Anti Xeno videos, is the amusing variety of horticultural nicknames for the Thargoids . . . . I'm gonna try a bit of Thargoid bashing very soon :)

As one who isn't any where near one percent of being a top gun envolving NPC's let alone human pilots. I have completely avoid any and all contact with the envolvement in gathering the various mats, engineering or actual contanct with the Thargoids.
I agree with all you say about swarms etc making things easier, but this is offset somewhat by the far more erratic course that the thargoids fly in the CZ than in a one-on-one fight, which makes it harder to target them and also harder to orbit around them. However if there are several commanders engaged with ond 'goid then it makes the likelyhood of taking critical damage a lot less. It's stil not that easy, so congrats to all those commanders taking one out for the first time (or even the second or third...)

yeah I got a few scouts but they got some secret weapon , I got caught in some sort of energy surge i think an emp and they destroyed my ship when all systems where down. type 10 defender 20 0000 000 credit loss
Just getting back in to the game. Is it ok to take fighters to thargoid encounters these days? I like the sound of gunship with a fighter in this situation.
The fighters are fantastic against thargoid scout craft but a complete chocolate fireguard against the bigger ships :)
One thing took note: if the cap ships and I think even the NPC fighters get the final kill shot on anything, you do NOT appear to get the combat bond. This goes against the traditional bounty system where simply tagging a target once nets you the bond.
I have been robbed of at least 5 basilisks and 2 hydras because of this... I won't even talk about scouts!
Thank you for this video but it's seems that you failed to mention your getting fined for no apparent reason ( A bug ) but logging in and out as suggested does not work and you need to clear it at an the nearest interstellar or hand yourself in lol. This for me was a major put off as jumping systems in that area can be a little interesting lol. Bit much to jump back n forth to clear fines and keep fighting against the Flower muffins :)
strange I have never received fines; you fought near megaschips or capital Schip ?
AX CZs in HIP 22460: Constantly flying through caustic clouds because a scout blew up right in front of you and you can't dodge it. Scouts that you can't see blowing up next to you and getting you with a caustic cloud. Can't line up a shot on an interceptor heart because a scout will hit you with a caustic missile. Still not as easy as fighting a cyclops 1v1.
I cant even battle simple human conflicts let alone thargoids. I'll stick with doing rescue runs & resupply missions.
I'd join in but the game keep forgetting my key binds it's irritating!! I have them backed up copy and paste them in the appropriate folder but still don't show in control option its happens to every time!🤬

I killed hundreds of Thargoids in the original Elite, but haven't tried it at all in ED. I haven't loaded up the game in months but I might drop in soon and check it out. Things were so much simpler in the old days though. Equip a military laser (front and rear) and an ECM jammer, switch to rear view and blast the s**t out of them while flying away. 😎

Actually, I think I'm remembering incorrectly. There was an ECM jammer in the game (the ST version at least) but IIRC it was only available if you complete a mission, which I never did. I will need to go back and read the manual to be certain but I think it stopped the Thargoids from using their ECM on your missiles before they hit.
Hopefully the new Thargoid combat with the friendly battleships and not all the aliens' guns pointed at players is here to stay, because I certainly want to try it...
However I'm currently on my first long range expedition outside of the bubble - I just passed 5,000 light years from my starting system for the first time (unlocking Professor Palin), though it took me quite a while to get out here given how little time I get to play the game and I'm not ready to head back yet...
I'm going to check out the Soul nebula and I've 2,000-3,000 light years to go, so then 8,000+ light years back.
On Thargoid combat, I only tried it once in my pretty heavily modified Anaconda and I thought I was ready for it, though I got quite shredded and was lucky to survive the encounter!
So I certainly want to try some easier Thargoid combat 🤔😯😂😀🤘 .
Yeah I was kinda late to the CG party however I quickly got myself some blueprints for my krait Mk2 and have made a good AX ship. Scored atleast 20 cyclops, got 5 basalisk, medusa 5 and only 1 hydra. Still alot of work to make my ship able to solo but the intruloductionnwas all I needed and it hmgave me valuable insight to goid combat

They have a large bulk megafrieghter covered in weapons

I believe it is but it's far from optimal
@@TheBuurPit i mean if youre new to ax you likely wont do much damage anyway, guardian weapons or not... The most important thing in ax is speed and staying cold.

I popped my AX combat cherry on this one, still a bit of an ED noob and I initially went into combat with regular weapons 😂 I didn’t even know what AX weapons were 🤷♂️😂😂

@@TheBuurPit yeah man I’m good now, all geared up from the Musashi (whatever it’s called) and collecting bonds in my Mk2, loving it! I was always wary of xeno combat, I spent the last few weeks playing as a galactic Uber just doing passenger missions.
the guardian sites seem broken, the sentinels are so easy now and they don't attack you with missiles etc. they must be broken, the fun has gone
Nowadays that system is nothing but ruins!
I went in hoping to get my first taste of AX combat and I all I found there were points marked as unexplored and debris fields.
When I went to check the capital ship, my heart sunk... Nothing but ruined hulls, devoid of life. And if you got too close, fucking Starmie shows up to scan you.
Such a shame how all this happens now that I wanted to try AX combat.
And to top it all, just when I move to Ebisu, the Sour salads are knocking at the door 🤣
I tried 3 times and losed 3 ships. Even a Fer de lance wich was sad
I didn't killed thargoids before event and I want do that now. I have a feeling that these story not about good humans and bad thargoids...maybe humans better create device for thargoid communication than new weapon or something...

Normally have no problem with grind, but the materials to get the weapons for some reason completely made me lose interest. Likely will never bother with Thargoids.
i have killed a bunch of scouts but get my ass handed to me fighting the bigger ships. i play on Ohio time there are only ai players when i'm on.

I think I'm still gonna steer clear of it all myself. I'm not exactly a Far God cultist, but I can never shake the feeling that we're in the wrong here. I said it when we discovered barnacles and immediately started mass-mining them, and I'll say it again now--this feels wrong. but it's just a game, so I don't care much either way lol
Whatever you believe adds to your game immersion so why not decline the fight if you think it's wrong?
Are there any Thargoid ground missions where you can attack Thargoids walking around and steal their power regulators?

Never killed a Thargoid, and not engaging with this. Waiting to see where the story leads us before that. Will defend myself but wont attack a Thargoid, as I think it's the Guardians we should be worried about
worried the guardians aren't really gone but just been hiding out for the past few million of years?
I’m more worried about salvation than the guardians. If they were willing to kill thousands destroying the Alexandria, I’m not so sure theyre someone I want to trust
If only there was someone that figured out how to make them "passive" and try to "talk" to you rather than fight you... teehee..

...I unlocked everything but Guardian tech mods, got to the HIP system and was destroyed so I started playing Star citizen XD. Is it really easier to fight them NOW?
