An important thing to note regarding the beam laser is DO NOT USE IT WHILE ALSO USING YOUR GAUSS CANNONS. The additional distributor draw from the laser will make your ship's heat rise much faster.

A great video as always. Thsnks again. I thoroughly agree with the advice on the xeno scanner, given at the end of the video. For me, I really needed it to hone my flak launcher skills against the thargon swarm. I'll be holding on to it for a while yet until my technique is better.
For people beginning their AX journey, after watching this, I would really recommend watch the cold orbiting guide. It is excellent and has insights not found in other guides that I have seen.

Now this is one hell of an informative video. A friend of mine (same guy that originally got me into this game over 4 years ago) called me up on discord 2 days ago out of the blue and asked me to come bug hunting with him, neither of us have ever done it before or had any clue what we were doing. All he told me was I need "a lot of hull", and that's basically it. I took a python with nothing but hull reinforcements in the opt. int, he brought a corvette. Needless to say, we did not do very well in our floating metal bricks with no maneuverability. This video gives me a lot more confidence, since I normally prefer high agility over damage tanking in combat. Definitely keen to give it another try in a ship that doesn't take a day and a half to do a 180º roll.

This is as far as I can tell a very good guide. Most others gloss over severely over certain details and leave many a thing to more research on the pilot. Being the guide as good as it is, means that I'm a bit more critical than usual :) These are the things that stuck out to me:
13:22 emphasis on survivability: How much module damage are beginners going to receive as they learn the ropes? Sounds like B grade core internals would be more useful considering the significantly added protection at the cost of weight. If you can't fight properly because the modules get too much damage to malfunction soon, then A type core internals will not suffice and other than costing extra per death, will serve no purpose. After you learned the mechanics, the added agility when you go to a-types will only increase the factor of
16:08 Guardian Module Reinforcements take a portion of powergrid. If you want to run colder and not rely on heat sinks too much, or if you want to have that shield on, you want your power usage to be manageable. Especially if you consider taking more than one module. I find that using the biggest module reinforcement as guardian and the other one or two as regular just for the added damage diversion is the most useful. Therefor you can keep repairing the big module without needing to worry about the smaller ones.
16:32 Are they doing absolute or caustic damage or a mix of both? Or what else is the "caustic resistance" for? This is absent in this guide. If it's always absolute damage, then shield tanking became a more interesting option as it gets an increased resistance to absolute damage depending on how many pips there are in systems, up to 60% . Absolute damage does not mean resistance true damage. It only ignores kinetic and thermal resistance but is still subject to Absolute resistance on shields with increased pips.
17:42 *Strongly disagree* . You gain more weight reduction with a D class of maximum size than taking an A or C class of the previous size AND you also have a higher jump range with the D type of the maximum size. If you decrease by 2 sizes, I seriously question how you want to get to the fight other than jumping there with a fast ship, then storing it in a nearby system that hopefully has enough jump range to the actual staging area, then let the combat ship of choice be transferred to you, then swap ship, requiring an unwanted downtime. In some instances you need +100% FSD jump range injection to even accomplish that jump.
18:02 There is technically no advantage to cluster capacitors because as long as you are not hard capped on booster MW requirement (which is a fixed value per ship, not per thruster). Therefore, stacking up more recharge time with super conduits is more useful. Unless the build requires a different experimental, like stripped down for weight reduction.
18:17 The only reason to use A type life support is you somehow wanting to continue the fight without canopy, therefore without a hud for the most part. You can safely dock within the margins of air you receive from a D class life support. When in doubt, synthesize oxygen on the way. This is a far bigger weight saver.
Type C sensors are absolutely not worth it with lightweight. If you don't do super long range combat, D type sensors are enough for the same reason if you want to save weight. D type with Lightweight 3 has the same 2 tons of weight while having less powergrid usage and still more hitpoints than a C type with Level 5 lightweight to reach down to the 2 tons. Type C sensors are absolutely the wrong choice here.
18:44 Usually the issue with repair limpet controllers is that you cannot repair mid combat as they get shot to pieces. Hull tanking in the game is generally woefully underpowered. You seem to also solely rely on the overheating function to get rid of the caustic damage thus not taking the decontamination limpets.
19:33 Suggesting Guardian Gauss cannons in an absolute beginner build is a bit overkill. An absolute beginner will want to go in and kill Xenos, thus the AX guns that are only for regular material trade-in without extra space-hopping to farm Guardian sites are far easier to pick up and equip to get your feet wet in AX combat. I'm not saying that Guardian Gauss cannons are a bad choice, I'm just mentioning that someone who wants to try it as a "first contact" basis should not worry about Guardian stuff and go for the human based AX stuff instead.
In general, one should make two AX builds of the same ship in the planning stages. A regular one and then one with weight stripping and then seeing how much the difference really is and which parts should be weight saved. Then you can really see what difference in handling and speed that makes. Often times, it's not worth the tradeoff.

@@Citizen_Kate As I said, if I find something really good, then I spend the extra time because I think it is worthwhile :) I know these videos take time to make, and time is the most valuable commodity in our life. Therefore if that much time is expended from a creator and the product is solid and good, I think it's only fair to spend time in return and give constructive thoughts. Granted, my typing speed makes long messages not that much of a big deal (and sometimes speech-to-text helps too).
If you care to go over the points where I question some decisions so I can get an understanding of your choices, that would be much appreciated too!

    • @Citizen_Kate
      @Citizen_Kate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

honestly you would be best to visit our discord at AXI and speak with our mentor team - some of your questions fall under personal preference (building a ship for the long haul not a stopgap while you learn for example) in fact so many of your objections are personal choice issues - my response is mainly just "yeah, you do you" but some are born of misunderstandings of how AX in general works - things like using the biggest GMRP are just crazy given the weight issues. And AX pilots will ALWAYS finish the fight without a canopy - docking? are you insane? we've already dumped a ton of mats by then. again, talk to our mentors and they can bring you up to speed with the basics if the video is not enough to convince you ;)
I get it, we all feel degrees of skepticiscm when we are told we are doing something wrong - the build advice given by the AXI is built on thousands of hours of experience though and i really feel you could benefit from speaking to our mentors ;)
the last part about gauss shows you really do not know what you are talking about - again not intended as an insult but you need guidance
you are of course entitled to disagree completly though, this is the internet after all :) and i wish you well with finding a content maker better suited to your views if so ;)

    • @AirshipCanon2

Type 10 is really baaaaad at fighting Interceptors. It's fairly good against Scouts, but it's no better than an Anaconda, and effectiveness against scouts isn't... representative of AX combat.
It has extremely poor convergence for Gauss Cannons and the Experimental Limit does away with any potential it could have with its 9 Hardpoints, turns like a brick, moves like a brick, is a brick, and still isn't tanky enough to tank goid fire for long.
