    I hit my 921s pure. Reproducible strikes , flight and spin. The feel is amazing and yet you get a little bit of help. Great for shaping your shots if you like to work the ball.

    Good decision. I went the other way though and have gone with the mizuno mp combo set. Hmb 4-6 Mmc 7-PW. They both make good looking irons 👌

    How did you set up combo set - Did you weaken mc or strengthen mb ?
    Fancy a split set myself and unsure as to best way to go

  • @markc3653
    @markc3653 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    3-4 iron Mc, 5-pw mb
    Personally I prefer the wider sole on the long irons and the feel and control of blades on the middle and short irons
    So it would depend on your feel & comfort perspective.
    For me, bigger more forgiving clubs are harder to strike pure

    How about doing a combo set. 4 to 6 iron in 7MC and 7 to P in the 7 MB

  • @magnusfrancis5543
    @magnusfrancis5543 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was just fitted for these clubs. Went for 4-6 MC and 7-P MB. Really did not notice any difference in performance other than the MC going a tiny bit further(most likely due to the 1 degree more of loft), therefore i think there will be no problem mixing these clubs. Could even feel as if they where the same club at times. I also wanted a little more length and maybe a bit more forgiveness in the 4 and 5. So i say go for it!

    • @jmtgolf2756
      @jmtgolf2756 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mizuno has a ton of offset so for a player that misses toe that don't want hooks, more offset the more left it'll go

    • @base615
      @base615 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Justin Thompson MP20 offset isn’t that much more really. For example, P7MB 7 iron has 1.6mm whereas MP20 7 iron has 2.21mm. Maybe I don’t pay enough attention but I’d struggle to notice the difference between zero offset and my MP20s at address, let alone picking a difference of 0.6mm between them and the P7MB.

    I just had my fitting done and with a 10-12 handicap the P7MB from 5-pw and p790 in the 3-4 was my best performer/best feeling. I grew up with an old set of blades and that could have a reason to why they didn’t feel intimidating but that’s what I did. I’m hoping that they eliminate my hot shots that go an extra10-20 yards with my older cavity back set.

    I want to try the 7 MBs. I dont like the 770s (too bulky) vs my older Miz MCs. My Miz very bladey and i love them. BUT! I tried a guys Taylor P7MC 9 iron from 165 a bit downhill. Knocked close LOVED IT! Butter baby! I know you have them in the longer irons. I could hit them through the set. How are you liking the combo? Thanks!

  • @wallstreetoneil
    @wallstreetoneil 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you do the split at 7 iron, I would bend the 7,8,9 MBs 1 degree stronger from (35,39,43) to (34,38,42) and leave the PW at 47 - they will blend better with the MCs 4,5,6 at (23,26,30). I would also consider a triple blend and substitute the P770 4 iron at 22.5 degrees - all the Pros are doing it for that long Par 3 club and I personally like having a hot&high 215'ish club

    • @MichaelPhelpsMedia
      @MichaelPhelpsMedia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geoman9324 Probably somewhat true. But I'd guess most of us playing split sets can hit 7-PW very consistently, but need a little help with 3 or 4-6. I've been playing a split set (JPX 900 Forged 4-6 and Tour 7-PW) since 2017. Trust me when I say a mishit on the 4-iron in the Forged feels MUCH better than if I had the Tour in the long irons. I don't mind the slight (and for me it is slight) harder feel of the Forged long irons. Proper gaping between the Forged and Tour takes care of the consistency.
      All of that said, I do agree that splitting the set does mean softer feel at the bottom end and a bit harder feel at the top. I'm just not good enough to play the blades at the top end!

    I know it's old, but you went through there what I'm going through now. Heart wants the blade in the 7-PW, and seem to over perform with them over a chunkier set, but over a season is there going to be damage done to the scores.

    Split the set, all day. 4-6 irons in blades are wrought with disaster, even for a great ball striker like you. But, 7-PW in blades should be just fine, and you do like them. If you HAD to have the same set, then the MCs. You hit them so similar to the MBs anyway with the 7-iron and you would avoid having a bladed 4-6 iron. We've all had poor ball striking days, and that will certainly be exaggerated on a bad day if you play long iron blades.

    On your simulated "toe strikes" your MC was truly toe-ey while the MB was a bit more flush. The MC definitely helps you a bit more - but what does that equate to in terms of strokes across 18? who knows - there is something to be said for playing what your eye enjoys - but only if you're not punished for it. I think its smart to use the MC in the long/mid and MB in the short irons - just like a good old fashioned "combo" set (i still play my old school nike vpro combo set where up to 6 its split cavity and 7-PW are low CG CB)

    • @geoman9324
      @geoman9324 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are you tubers I respect of which you are one and I don’t like the path many are taking. I can understand possibly a 3 to 5 year change but you are trying to sell the hacker a false game by recommending a change in irons every so often like many you tubers are doing now. Simply have become another advertisement channel. Rick Shiels for example can earn all the money he likes and endorsements but he has lost himself in all of this. Once a great source of information but over the last year I’ve heard him say doesn’t play much but his changed 4 different iron set brands.
      I would say the amateur high to mid handicap enthusiast follows mAny of these channels and it’s sad to see influencers leading people astray.
      Too many are selling out to the brands and not doing it for the beauty of the sport in my opinion. As the old adage says: can’t buy a good game.

    • @AliTaylorGolf
      @AliTaylorGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never say people should change, I think if you’re fitted correctly you should get 3 years out of driver and maybe 5 from irons unless your game changes a lot. I think it’s important people try new equipment to see if there are benefits and if they are worth the extra cost.

    • @geoman9324
      @geoman9324 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      AliTaylorGolf that’s understandable. In my opinion people like shiels are now using subscribers as there bargaining chip with brands and in my opinion it’s prettty sad. For him though it’s not as he is raking it in.
