    I cannot believe it was that easy. I was out in the yard hitting some wiffle balls just practicing getting my wrists in the proper position for the down swing and all of a sudden, my ball contact was incredible, and my divots were 3-4 inches in front of the ball. This has been something I struggled with for 30 years. I cannot wait to get out to the range and start hitting balls. THANK YOU.

    Was eager to try this at the range today because I’ve been hitting a weak fade with all of my clubs the last month or so. I actually thought I was losing distance due to my age.
    This truly did help with contact and hence distance. I was hitting a pulled draw shot early which I’ve been known to do. Yet, I was able to straighten out.
    I also didn’t get near as tired. I wanted to keep hitting balls. Gonna rush to range again tomorrow and next few days in preparation for a round with some coworkers next week.
    I’m very excited. I’ve tried other tips from videos to shallow out the club but something about this teaching related to me. Thx for the teaching

    I actually feel less in control when tuning down my swing speed. Less momentum and tension that stabilizes my body. But in return i get tired quicker and have a hard time controlling my swing path. When i get tired i do the mistake you mentioned with the downswing.

    This is EXACTLY what I've been working on with my swing. Last time out I hit my irons better for 18 holes than I ever have. Driver, however, was terrible but I think that was (ironically) from trying to hit it too hard and losing my angles. Thanks for reinforcing my thoughts.

    Maybe you can shed some light on this for me: according to indoor driving range, similar to the set up you have there, I hit the ball 20 yards farther than I ever have on a golf course? For example, I hit a 5-iron on average 185 yards carry, 200 yards total roll on an indoor range (I'm 63 years old, 9 handicap). On an actual golf course, I have never hit a 5 iron more than 180 yards to include roll out. Another example, a few years ago I was fitted for irons on an indoor machine. The result was a stiff (S300) dynamic gold shaft because I hit it farther (10 yards) than any other shaft tested. I tested the full gamut of shafts from L, A, R and S flexes, steel and graphite. I had clubs built with that shaft and lost 10 yards on the actual golf course versus my old regular flex shafts.......Do these machines lie to us??????

    When launching at 14°, you’re 2° stronger than the tour average and closer to the tour average for a 6i. All great for ball speed and more distance but you sacrifice your stopping ability on the green. You’re getting over 10 yards of rollout with a 7i which is not going to do anyone, any good.
    Only way this works is if you’re already a high speed/high spin player so that you still have the stopping lower on the green. With a 108 CS on a 7i and 8k backspin, I can afford to take spin off but most recreational golfers can’t If you’re already a guy who is closer to the average joe, you’re going to be rolling off the back of the green.

    • @briantierney4703
      @briantierney4703 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      In all fairness to Ali his message is to the wider world and not necessarily directed toward the scratch or better than scratch golfer. But, even here, it reinforces just how valuable it is to swing within yourself and to compress the ball. Don´t get caught up and distraced by the 10 yds of rollout... remember these were casually hit shots as he talked his way through and where the club face was often slightly closed. I think he´s done an excellent job on getting the concept across.

    • @YoungMoneyInvestments
      @YoungMoneyInvestments 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@briantierney4703 I think we both agree that a solid, controlled swing will play better than an out of control faster swing.
      However, what you said reinforces why the average golfer shouldn’t want to take this approach to gain more distance with their irons. Less loft equals less height and less spin, two things most golfers already don’t have enough of on approach shots. He’s a teaching professional so the average golfer who attempts this is going to get more rollout off the back side of the green. Stopping power on the greens is important.
      Hopefully our differing views can help bring to light the pros and cons for those attempting or considering this. Cheers! 🥂

Ball flight went from penetrating mid height to to high and soft. I swing a 34* 7 iron comfortably 86-88 mph but only hitting it about 160. Curious what was your spin, height and decent angle was on some of those 180 yd + 7 irons?

    • @damiancosta2588

      @chrischampion727 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thewelsho Exactly and I had been clubbing up before I figured out the distance loss. The issue was the distance loss was only with my irons and caused about a 30 yd gap between my longest iron (4) and my 21* hybrid. A quick checkup from my local pro showed me that my grip had gotten a weak and was causing me to leave the face open on the downswing and flip to square it at impact. A little tweak to my grip kept my face square to slightly closed during my swing and reduced dynamic loft at impact 4* - 5* and viola…spin launch and peak height came down and ball speed and distance came back up to where I’m used to seeing it. Crazy how subtle changes can make such a big difference

    this works for me when I hit off of the mats at the driving range, but off grass I'm much shorter and more inconsistent. Any ideas why?

    I would think this could be positive for anyone with a slower swing speed looking for more distance including seniors who have lost a measureable amount of it from age and the usual
    nicks and knocks they have taken over the years. I'm going to give this a try.

    Instead of changing your existing swing and delofting your irons, what about simply keeping the swing you've already grooved and take one more club while swinging smoothly?

    I was just working on this! What I can say is that it's easy to get sloppy at the top of the backswing (relaxed hands and drooping clubhead) when you slow it down. A new tempo has to be learned.

    Great tip...you see the Dustin Johnson reverse cup at the top is a key to all these good numbers. That move at the top, with the lag sets up what I call the sickle swing which is more consistent for a square club face at impact.

    Great lesson but for a lot of golfers that movement will be extremely difficult to achieve.

    I like your content because there a lot of golfs that feel they swing to fast. I will play the devils advocate here. Your playing a stronger seven iron like most pros do. I would say your 6’-2” which will add more distance because of your arch of the club. You hit the sweet spot every time most of us don’t. When you slow your club speed you have to be careful not to decelerate to much or you will chunk the ball. That being said, I loved your video!

    Hi Ali , great video’s mate, I’m a returning senior golfer with stuffed back from down under Australian. Can you get coached from you with videos.
    Thanks

    Try hitting your clubs 3/4 of the distance you normally do but still with a full swing. THAT will smooth your swing & you'll make good contact from the center of the face more often. You'll be surprised by the tempo it gives you & even better distance just by hitting the center of the face. Try it for a whole bucket of practice balls & give it a chance rather than quitting after a few bad shots. It's a little harder than it sounds. Let the club swing rather than pulling it down from the top. IMO, the 1 thing that's rarely mentioned by teachers but 1 of the most important factors in the swing is grip pressure. For speed in the swing, you can't have tension in your hands, wrists & arms which doesn't allow the full weight of the club to go thru the ball thus reducing speed. They call it a golf "swing" for a reason. Relax & let the club swing freely rather than trying to control it.

    Almost every time I try to hit a club easy so I don't overshoot, my swing is much cleaner, I connect better and actually hit even further. There is a saying in Martial Arts - "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast". And it could definitely be applied to golf.

    The biggest thing for me is efficiency. I'm not thrashing at a golf ball for little gains - may be on a range but not on the course, want to still be strong through the whole round.👍

    What about when you use say a lob wedge.. do you still use this method..

    • @braven208
      @braven208 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question. Yesterday with my 58-degree on a par 3, I launched it high in the air using this method. It was a full swing and by George I had a hole-in-one.
