    Hate how Mercedes have had a massive advantage for 3-4 years, and as soon as any other team gets anywhere near, they start crying about them using tricks, when nobody has said anything about their PU’s, Aero or chassis

      guanwei he I am rooting for basically everyone but Lewis. But that’s just you and the media making a thing out of it and blowing it way out of proportion. He just said they had a few tricks up their sleeve, which is a backhanded compliment to their engineers and mechanics, nothing more or less.

      Do you ever feel as if the FIA is biased towards Mercedes I mean Ferrari has had penalties while Mercedes only gets reprimands the only penalty is an engine penalty which if they didn’t give it to Mercedes it would be very obvious that they are biased I swear Ferrari won’t win the championship because of the FIA

      If you haven't heard other teams and drivers complain about Mercedes' advantage between 2014 and 2016 you must have been living under a rock. Go watch Daniel Ricciardo's interviews after quali in Australia this year when Hamilton got pole by 7 tenths.

    • @guanweihe7614
      @guanweihe7614 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Naz Adz I don’t think it’s a good thing to have unless the wing somehow bends backwards which provides less drag and thus higher top speed, but it seems pretty impossible because the flexing comes from the end plates wobbling sideways

    • @nazadz251
      @nazadz251 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      guanwei he it must have some benefit otherwise it wouldn’t flex like all the other teams

    • @itzthedude971
      @itzthedude971 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Naz Adz Bro if you study thermodynamics. Any area that is flexing will cause a disturbance in the air which has no benefit in downforce. If anything it does make is an unstable car. Plus at the low speed cornering it's mechanical grip not aero.

    • @itzthedude971
      @itzthedude971 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Naz Adz You have to take into account of several factors too such as the material, they way that it is design and many more that could contribute to the wobble so unless you've personally designed for the merc f1 car , you'll know what could cause the wobble. However I can assure you that it is within the rules.

I've waited years for this very situation but instead the comments are full of people arguing about the personalities of each driver rather than the action on the track which has been the best in years.

Ground effect cars, under floor fans, double diffusers, blown diffusers, f-ducts. Some where outlawed before they could even be used while others (double diffusers and blown diffusers) were used to great effect. It's just like drug takers in sport: they are always one step ahead.

    I'm glad Ferrari have brought something to the table, this whole era of Mercedes domination was beginning to get seriously boring that being said I find it comical that as soon as Mercedes find themselves on the back foot they start throwing there toys out the pram and accuse the faster team of cheating, this isn't even just from Hamilton; Mercedes senior management have accused Ferrari of this as well this coming from team who had spent millions in developing "trick" suspension. If you look at the stat's this season actually Ferrari would be leading the constructors championship and drivers championship by a significant margin had there not been strategic error and driver errors, I think they need to work on this as Mercedes appear to make the most out of a bad situation where I feel Ferrari don't as of yet. That being said Ferrari are still putting the ice bag over the camera pod whilst the car is on the garage & grid, could it be that they are using the 2 hidden buttons on the steering wheel in order to activate this "electric supercharger" whilst in slow corners at the start of the race and on the straights for extra boost? I noticed that when Vettel was overtaking Hamilton he had his thumb pressed firmly on the section of the steering wheel exactly where these hidden buttons are. Would be interesting to find out.

      "The majority of Mercedes senior management were ex Ferrari employees"
      No they really aren't. Mercedes AMG F1 employ somewhere in the ballpark of 700 people, and all of about 5 came from Ferrari.
      "there're full aware of the 'tricks' ferrari gets up."
      If Mercedes were "full aware" of how Ferrari have overtaken them in development, how the fuck have Ferrari overtaken them in development? Why are Mercedes still saying they don't understand Ferrari's ERS or how they've made such huge steps this season? Just as Whiting said after Spa: The FIA took ages to wrap their heads around the Ferrari ERS system, and no one at Mercedes knows how it works, or they'd be doing the same things.
      The ex Ferrari guys at Mercedes are mostly aero people. James Allison and Aldo Costa being the two biggest names. Costa retires next year, and Allison is probably the most overrated person in F1, so much so that him leaving Ferrari coincided with a huge performance boost for Ferrari...

    • @Bahamuttiamat
      @Bahamuttiamat 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ferrari car is raked, meaning it makes most of its downforce from ground effects. Like RBR they can run skinny wings without worrying about rear stability. Merc, being low rake doesn't have that ability. The can ferrari has built is revolutionary. The best of both worlds. It's raked and long wheel based, plus they can effectively seal the floor.

      @L.GH. Djoetma that would be to interpret, not to quote out of context, or indeed misinterpret, which is an opinion. Which from only seeing the live interview I do not share.
      I agree with @Rima R it was a deliberate insinuation of foul play by Lewis, like the 'interesting tactics' comment.
      The position that Hamilton thought it was unfair was supported by Hamilton's Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff supported by saying,: "It is human nature that if you are outperformed on track, you look at yourself, and then you look at your competitors. If you can't find an explanation then you imagine all the nasty things.
      Which would suggest to me that Merc are not convinced of the fairness of the Ferrari. Now there may be an argument that I have quoted Toto out of context to give a false impression but not Lewis.

    What are you talking about? I've seen it in context and I'm convinced that he was implying "illegal" in that sentence. The whole wording is stupid anyway, no one ever uses the word "trick" for "simple" technical development.

    • @braveheart4603
      @braveheart4603 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they do. Mercs "party mode," was a "trick," that the other manufacturers were late on catching onto and was perfectly legal under the regs as they stood. The wording is often used to mean something extra special like saying "my road car has a trick suspension setup," which just means it's better than standard and has no negative implications at all. You just want to hate on Lewis rather than enjoy the first proper title fight between 2 great drivers for the first time in years in F1. Instead you seem more interested in a personality contest between the 2 when you should really be enjoying the action on track instead.

      Not a master psychologist, just basic observations reading between the lines. Look how much you've inferred yourself from the simple use of one word in Lewis' statement. I'm simply suggesting that the use of the word "trick," doesn't give you the insight into Lewis' thinking that you are implying. I'm very open to you setting me straight on how I interpreted your little rant about Lewis and freely admit I'm projecting a lot from the rest of the comment sections general tone and could be totally off the mark.

      I appreciate your openness towards the possibility of being wrong. The point where you are wrong is, that I’m not interested in a personality-contest at all and I do appreciate the title fight very much.
      And you are correct that IF I based my judgement only on that one instance of using the word “trick” it would not be justifiable. However, given that LH has not taken any of the given opportunities of explaining what he meant and given that he’s been back-handly accusing Ferrari of things like “interesting tactics” (to be fair he’s taken that back in a later interview) in the past I feel I have a good case that LH didn’t use the word “trick” in that instance in a neutral way.

      Thanks for taking the time to explain your pov more in depth in a civil and friendly manner. I apologise for jumping the gun when it was actually the 3 or 4 preceding comments I read that had got me annoyed given how many years I've been praying for a close fight between the two drivers where they both have as equal and capable machinery as we could hope to see. I really hope to see the title decided at the last race with both guys at their best and without reliability of the cars being a factor. I really have great respect for all the top drivers and think they do pretty well considering the severe scrutiny they are always under these days. Lewis does seem to idolise Senna who had a victim hood mentality also (deservedly so given how the FIA treated him) and maybe that's where Lewis gets his paranoid thinking from. IDK just a little theory I came up with. Have a good day fellow F1 fan.

    Lets be honest. Mercedes had been on top for a long time and suddenly for Ferrari to jump to the top of the performance ladder well, it does make one a little suspicious. We normally associate Mercedes with detailed engineering and their performance is to be expected after so much effort. With Ferrari suddenly jumping to top of the grid, we have to ask some questions.

    It's colloquial English, you'll hear things about someone fitting their car with "trick suspension", it just means something good or effective without either knowing why or having to explain why. When someone says they have a few "tricks up their sleeve" they don't mean they've got magic tricks hidden up their sleeves, or that they are intent on deception. It just means they've got some techniques ("tricks") in reserve which they are either keeping to themselves or can't be bothered to explain. So, what anyone who grew up in England, who doesn't have an axe to grind, will understand was that Hamilton was saying Ferrari are quicker so they've found something to develop that Mercedes can't understand. That it was a message to Mercedes, pull your fingers out, we're missing something.

    • @irishRocker1
      @irishRocker1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you that it sounds more like that usage of the word. It's more of a slang usage. like "Trick suspension" it means some unique design etc. I still think he's a whiney bitch tho, after having 4 years of dominance he is a bad loser.

    • @braveheart4603
      @braveheart4603 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No doubt Hamilton is a sore loser but it's not unusual for highly successful individuals to have that as a personality trait. They often employ the me against the unfair world approach to motivate themselves to push themselves and their teams beyond what others who are just happy to be there making the numbers up ever achieve and in the past guys like Senna and Schumie were no different but just weren't under the same level of scrutiny as the current drivers. The usage of the word trick also doesn't necessarily mean anything more than Ferrari have developed their car in a better way than the Mercs which is beyond the understanding of the Mercs team and engineers just like how Renault could have quite rightly described the Mercs party mode as a trick they failed to pick up on in the past few years without implying there was cheating involved.

    • @matth1589
      @matth1589 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Senna always made it clear in the press whenever he had a car disadvantage and, unsurprisingly, didn't ever talk about how unfair it was when he had the best car. I cannot think of a single, top level driver who hasn't spent time pointing out every disadvantage they have had in the past 30-years. Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton have been the top drivers for the best part of the decade and none of them are good losers. Their sulking is different in style, but they are all sore losers. I think a lot of that has to do with the level of safety. Prior to the 1980's drivers had good reason to celebrate if they just made it through a race uninjured. Losing a race in those circumstances has less of a sting, particularly to someone who is sharing those risks.

    I am a Ferrari and Sebastian fan 100% but Hamilton didn’t mean anything other than there car is good. The problem is that at the British Grand Prix, Hamilton called Kimi making a mistake “interesting tactics”. Couple that with the Mercedes-requested investigations around Monaco/Azerbaijan time done by the FIA and you have have people who think one harmless quip by HAM was a criticism. He meant nothing by it more then “their engine is quite good.”

    'Quoted out of context?' Do me a favour - he knew damn well that the word 'trick' would be misconstrued by his more knuckle-dragging members of his fan base, and everyone would then start screaming about Ferrari cheating. He's cool with that, and has got 'form' on this approach. After the shit hits the fan, he does his usual tactic, withdraws the comment, or back-pedals - by which time it's too late as whatever untruth it is has entered the F1 ether and cyperspace and people will always believe it. I have never known a champion, let alone a 'normal driver' who wins, or loses, with such little grace and sportsmanship. Given that the car he drives is usually the class of the field, that's pretty shitty.

    • @irishRocker1
      @irishRocker1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It doesn't work like that. It's capacity that matters. in parallel you get higher current for same voltage. So larger current but it would drain the batteries twice as fast. so no real advantage. In series you double your voltage but that would just fry your electrical systems if they are not designed to run at higher voltage. And at higher voltage you reduce current. It's more to do with capacity and it seems they have found a more efficient way to get energy from the MGU-H into the battery pack. so they seem to replenish used capacity quicker. Or they use it in reverse and use the battery pack to spin that motor and create turbo boost at lower speed/rpm when the exhaust is not at full pressure. But again, these cars already have energy harvesting and anti lag so it seems to be that they have found a more efficient way of doing it, better energy recovery, and more battery capacity to deploy more regularly.

    When Merc adds a so called "party mode" in their car, its totally fair and a wow factor, but when the guys in Maranello does an amazing job to get the better out of their power train, increase the straight line speed and improved the acceleration - it is a trick for Merc and Lewis. Without a doubt Ferrari's SF71H has been the best machine on the grid so far. Its unfortunate that Seb had ill fate in Germany and unlucky in France. But they came back strong. Even in Hungry Seb had the better car. After summer break its definitely Ferrari who has come up with the better engines after tuning it. One statement from Hamilton after Belgium GP says it all

    Mercedes were never really operating in any grey areas of the regulations regarding the power unit. Charlie Whiting cast doubt on the legality of the Ferrari power unit during the Monaco Grand Prix. However, he basically said it wouldn't be possible for the FIA to install the necessary devices to monitor their output properly before 2019. Mercedes did the best job in developing for the new 2014 regulations by focussing more effort and attention on the new power units during 2012-13 by sacrificing performance and results for those years. When you see a team achieve massive gains literally from one race to the next it will always raise eyebrows. I'm not saying they're cheating ... but the door is wide open for speculation. That Whiting said they needed "additional monitoring for Canada" but then adding in the same sentence "further sensors could be added to improve monitoring next year" is in its self an admission that they don't fully understand how they are operating or the legality of it.

      Hussein Ahmed They said that Ferrari could be going around the rules and taking advantage of it. I don't see or hear anything that has to do with Ferrari hate.

    There was no taking words out of context, you could tell that Lewis was hinting that Ferrari has some illegal upgrade, because (sarcasm incoming) how dare someone other than Mercedes have the best car! They must be breaking the rules!

    Here are things people don’t take into consideration when they claim a team is “cheating” or using “tricks”
    1). If the rules do not specifically address the modification, then it isn’t cheating, rather coming up with a new technique or device
    2). F1 still does not have all the dicks in a row for all aspects of the organization. To my knowledge, all the teams must use the same tire brand, yet in this video the tech explains that Ferrari is using Shell fuel. Again, not breaking a rule if it isn’t stated. Enforcing one brand for the season would make it easier to catch a cheat that adds anything to the fuel in a post race examination
    3). A power unit that is designed within the rpm and HP specs can have different characteristics such as more torque on low end, etc. again, advancing the technology on hand to fit the technology mandated by F1
    All this has been going on for decades. There are a handful at most of organizations that are very specific on tech and guidelines which reduces any chance of cheating. A great example is The V8 Supercar series out of Australia. All cars have the same gearbox with the same ratios, only being able to adjust one aspect of the drivetrain. Curb weight, displacement and HP limits, tires, fuel, etc are spelled out specifically, making the series a nail biter every event.

    I put Shell Premium Diesel Fuel in my Mercedes B200 AMG Sport (2:15) and find it gives me an ExTRA 6mph and 3 mpg increase ☻
    I would venture to suggest that Ferrari are adding 'Ethanol' 'Butanol' or 90° proof Straight Whisky and are therefore not playing by the 'rules' of an 'even playing field'
    After 'Spa' I failed a "Breath Test" purely by following 'Seb'
    Fortunately dismissed by my good friend agreed 'Charlie' when he had a 'sniff'
    If you look really carefully at (2:30) you can clearly see a empty bottle of 'Chivas Regal' in the corner. ♚
