    Nice to see the evolution of the MT5 that I picked up a while back. That smooth-opening port cover is just heartwarming! I guess those desiccant packs were indeed a Medion thing. Great video!

    Excellent video! I am absolutely jealous of this PC with it's options and high quality components! During that time (~2001-2002), my dad spoke with a Dell representative on the phone to "configure a PC for our needs" and it performed much worse than our Gateway from 1998! I found out later it had a Celeron and no AGP slot. Rough times...

    Man this brings back memories. Back in the early 2000s I used to work at a place building PCs - a lot of the time I'd build brand new custom order PCs from parts, but my boss somehow managed to buy pallets of old Medion returns that we'd have to try to fix. I've dealt with hundreds, if not thousands of them spanning Pentium 3 era to systems that look just like these ones, although the ones I dealt with had a GeForce 4 Ti4200 in them instead of the Radeon. I'd have to figure out what was wrong with them and replace/swap parts around to try to get as many working systems as I could. At the time I remember getting quite frustrated with them but looking back they were all made of decent components. Been a long time since I've seen one of these systems intact and running : )

    Regarding the dual optical drives, the conventional wisdom at the time was that because writers were significantly more expensive than basic readers, it was better to have both and place all the day-to-day wear and tear on the cheaper drive and just use the writer when needed. Making piracy easier was just a side benefit.

    Great review, well done. I have exactly the same machine that I bought from someone few years ago for 10€. Mine's hard disk was missing as it had crashed. No wonder, the cooling of the system as from the factory really sucks. The only air inlet with a guided flow is via the side panel and that ventilator is only directed to the cpu. The powerbloc's fan has to do the rest of the cooling for the case as nothing else is foreseen and the case is totally closed. What I did is, I installed a 250GB SSD and I installed an extra fan with an outlet on the back to cool the thing...marvelous...runs like a sewing machine now.

    • @arizonapalms
      @arizonapalms  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're absolutely right - I've had one of these a few years ago that overheated and cooked itself after the CPU fan failed, I wonder if there was at least 1 extra fan in the case it would've survived maybe

    Hi. Good video. I had the same idea: Windows 98 retro PC by adding a soundblaster audio card and disabling the onboard audio chip and LAN, serial and parallel port. Replace the CMOS battery. But with a 160gb HD I prefer a dual boot. Installing Win98 on the drive partitionned with fdisk at x% and then last installing XP. If a game does not work in XP, Win98 could be used. My XP version create a dual boot automatically when 98 is installed first. You could try and see if it does the same with yours. Do not surf the internet with XP.
