...just to be clear, this video is not sponsored; I simply have a fondness for this computer and found its grocery store backstory amusing.

I replaced the Hard Drive with an SSD, of course. 256 MB of RAM, Pentium III (as I avoid Pentium 4 and Pentium D and any NetBurst CPUs like the plague), ATI 8MB, DVD drive, and the coup de grace, dual booting Windows 98 and Windows 2000.

I'm running Win98 on it now after replacing the hard drive - Much better performance and DOS compatibility with the sound card is actually pretty decent! If I end up upgrading to an mSATA -> IDE SSD I think I'll dual boot like you have

Word of advice: Use a modern PC to format both partitions to FAT32, as that will properly align them to reduce wear. And the reason why both 98 and 2000 are FAT32 is because when I tried to install the 2000 partition as NTFS, 98 wouldn't boot.

Hi. Good video. I had the same idea: Windows 98 retro PC by adding a soundblaster audio card and disabling the onboard audio chip and LAN, serial and parallel port. Replace the CMOS battery. But with a 160gb HD I prefer a dual boot. Installing Win98 on the drive partitionned with fdisk at x% and then last installing XP. If a game does not work in XP, Win98 could be used. My XP version create a dual boot automatically when 98 is installed first. You could try and see if it does the same with yours. Do not surf the internet with XP.

I have a soft spot for all the German aldi/lidl Medion devices - not because I ever had one but because the 2nd hand market was flooded with medion branded parts no one wanted as some small companies woudl buy up all the unsold stocks and scrap them for parts so medion parts were always your go to cheapo choice for building a budget PC. Well I might say I was sorta a genious of building my friends a pc that could barely run latest games for peanuts xD No one could ever beat my builds in price to performance but then I cut every single corner possible - can't affors a PSU good enough for the build? - No worries look at that 20€ server power supply! - Dude it's high quality server part, don't worry none of the connectors fit ATX, bring me that old PSU of yours and some beer I'll solder it up together... Also grew up with a C600 with practically identical specs except with a 10gb HDD, runs windows xp home and has a broken right hinge and the left hinge isn’t fairing the best either, with the display only working at certain angles. Last time I fired it up it was having difficulties firing up, I’ll eventually get around to restoring it, but in the meantime a C840 has taken its place running win 98 (that was kinda a PITA to set up due to the C840 not being designed for win98 (sleep doesn’t work properly and pressing the power button immediately hard shuts down the machine for example), but I’m not really that happy with it since it’s a bit too different visually to my C600, so I’ll probably get a C640 instead. (And swap over the 2.4ghz p4 in the C840 to the C640)

Man this brings back memories. Back in the early 2000s I used to work at a place building PCs - a lot of the time I'd build brand new custom order PCs from parts, but my boss somehow managed to buy pallets of old Medion returns that we'd have to try to fix. I've dealt with hundreds, if not thousands of them spanning Pentium 3 era to systems that look just like these ones, although the ones I dealt with had a GeForce 4 Ti4200 in them instead of the Radeon. I'd have to figure out what was wrong with them and replace/swap parts around to try to get as many working systems as I could. At the time I remember getting quite frustrated with them but looking back they were all made of decent components. Been a long time since I've seen one of these systems intact and running : )
