Awesome game. Just finished it myself. I hope they make a sequel because I'd love to see some more mechanics. Too interesting of a concept to not explore further.

There's one behind the start, on the opposite side of the platform, one on top of the green ship thing, and one during the grandma boss fight

Honestly, I think it's just the vibe. I'd recommend it if you like retro 3d platformers at all

I can't seem to get the double boost, can you explain the timing to make it work?

You press the accelerate button just as the car starts moving forward from the boost. So, the car spins, then starts moving forward, then you immediately press accelerate.
