    Well, I worked in advertising and marketing for 10+ years (on the interactive / QC rather than the design / client sides), and I spent a lot of time preparing quotes and putting together pitches for new business. The process was always mysterious, and not just to me. No one seemed to understand what would work. Chris in this one video clarified everything for me: the right approach, the psychology, the importance of not selling and value vs. time. Chris is tough but everything he says is empowering rather than discouraging - that's a gift. He talks about logic, but he is more than logical, he's intuitive and empathic. I will think this through in terms of my own business. Kudos as well to the young woman who put herself on the line and took feedback in good spirit. It's a good reminder that quite often you need to get honest, constructive feedback and you need to get it from someone who knows what they're talking about, and you need to not take it personally. "Tell me more that I'm doing wrong!" Five stars.

    “Speak less. Ask more questions.” I couldn’t agree more. Listening is key and many people think that hearing sounds through their ears is listening. When we listen more and talk less, we gain valuable cues as to what the other person is trying to tell you. Then we can ask the right questions that tailor to their needs.
    Thank you so much for always sharing your valuable time for free. 😊🙏🏼

    How is this channel not massive? This is invaluable even to me as a freelance software engineer and firm owner. I have to price and pull in customers. I never sell I always look to serve. I love what I do and I won’t take on a project I don’t see as having value to help people. Yet I continue to get shoe horned into creating estimates for my time rather than the value I bring the business. This is such an effective formula for tackling both the introduction and the bid. 10/10 I’d value a relationship with thefutur.

    TH-cam read my mind. I needed to skill up my selling "game" and this video came up and it's really changing the way I see the process! Funny thing, I did not even search for the topic, the video just came up while I was looking at totally unrelated entertainment content.

  • @stevenhall2
    @stevenhall2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    "Framing the problem"
    - Ask questions, ask why
    (Practice this through role play - you can see how hard the process of problem solving is by watching how uncomfortable the designers throughout the video)
    - Also, understand it helps to say up front "how may I be of service to you?" and during the conversation, "what I am hearing is" ... and then paraphrase what the potential client has stated. This technique helps you deduce the 'why' and your client also feels heard. (this makes them feel valued, and ensures your communication is in line with their needs.)
    Chris around minute 21 hits on something important - Stake Holders
    - If you are not speaking to someone that can pull the trigger, do not waste your time.
    Lastly, you don't have to do business with everyone. Be selective about who you are going to work with because clients can make your life a nightmare. You are the owner and need to protect your business from high-maintenance clients that may never be satisfied by your work.

    Wow! I just had a conversation with a client yesterday and I wish I would have watched this first. Not only is it about us getting into another mindset on pricing, but helping the client see that too (which is where questions come into play). Thank you for what you do, and I wish they taught like this in school.

      I just purchased your "Perfect Proposal" course and... Maaaan! Insecurity just struck me!!! Don't take me wrong here, The Perfect Proposal guides and templates are incredibly professional and so full of information, but I'm afraid my customer (whose business is art restoration) will be overwhelmed with so much information. On the other hand, I don't have enough case studies. Most of my work has been small deliverables, like business cards, logo designs or websites and didn't go in so much depth, as you presented it, or have a formal studio, (I just work from my basement), in order to justify my capabilities. Also, I don't have a big team. I am a one-man-band! And I haven't won any prizes and recognitions. I feel like I'm back to ground zero.

    It's amazing just how different of a result you can get just by how you interact and engage with people in general. Same issue. Same client. Massively different outcomes even price wise n sanctification. Value is everything n how the conversation gets there w/ pin pointed issues & possible threats towards that goal make it plain as day making realizations for the client n allowing for a better opportunity towards changing strategies or revision of the proper solution(s) to tackle the new issue(s) at hand. what a broad mindset; this can be applied to so many things outside of just sales/servicing too. +1 from me

    One question remains. A client could ask us to PROVE we can reach the targets we discuss about. So we need metrics. And for small businesses which have (like me) no idea about good metrics, which one are the most useful and how do we do that in practice ? Any great resource on that ? THANKS !!!

      At 36 minutes he talks about discounting for uncertainty, that's part of the pricing. I'm going guess they get more into the metrics in the educational products that they sell on their website.
