Loved Zegama and when this shoe came out I was so tempted but couldn’t get over price. I might have to break down and get this one after your review for ultra season.
I use Altra Lone Peak now, which I need to retire, considering a new show for Burning River in July. Will give these a try, but will probably get another trail shoe for the majority of my daily runs and keep these for races and some training runs to get them to last longer
It looks like a great shoe. I also have a range of Altras and use the Lone Peak a lot. I’ve recently bought some Saucony Xodus, the previous version as it was in a sale as I wanted something a bit more cushioned. I was a bit worried about the 6mm drop but they have been fine. The sole looks a bit better than those Nikes and held up very well at a race last weekend in the Black Mountains which was very steep and very muddy. I think it makes sense to rotate shoes around a bit to make your body more adaptable. You are right about very muddy conditions I have some old fell running shoes with mega lugs but they are not very good if you have to hit any roads. The Nike looks good though but not sure about white for a trail shoe!! Having said that I always go for snazzy colours if I can and am not adverse to bright pink or yellow.
Thanks Shaun, the cool thing about white trail shoes is that they “tell a story” better than darker colours!! Yes, I quite like mixing up the drop and shoes .. nice work with the black mountain race - sounds great 👍
Yup, both great shoes - definitely better grip than the Nike but I guess as I always have a fair bit of road to get to and from the trails at times, I like to keep the tread less aggressive.. thanks 🙏
ZoomX doesn't usually last that long. What is your impression of the Ultra fly Trail? I got 1100 km out of the Altra Mont Blanc boa and just as many out of the Tnf summit vective pro (with inov-8 Boomerang insole). The Altras are relatively dead, the Tnf feel like day one!
I love my Mont Blancs and the midsole still feels good (unfortunately I find the outsole wears quickly hence I am pair 4!). Re the zoom x, its early days but still feels like new. I also won’t mind too much if it did flatter out slightly as would probably offer more ground feel
Yes I love them because of the toebox, the zoomx, how well they run even on the road, and how dirty they get! Got 600km on my first pair, and second pair ready to go! Protip: wait for a Nike discount code to buy these
@@movemorenowjameswould the plate help walk-jogging 3km uphills? I got a 100k coming up and it has roughly 2700m total elevation (downhills not included hah). I did the same last year with the Zegama but it was my first ultra distance and i absolutely love that shoe. Got an ultrafly on 50% off now and thinking if i should save that shoe for roads and easy trail, or test it out on that ultra.
I dont run too much trail, mostly street, but as this and the invincible a currently the same price I am thinking about choosing this ultrafly here... Any disadvantages on the normal street with this one? What would you recomment for me running 90% streat?
Hi, this would be ok for pavement etc but it’s would wear the tread down quite quickly and there are lighter options but as said, it runs nicely on all surfaces
Its a sacrilege running with such nice, really pretty white shoes into such wet deep mud .... I use mine only on sunny dry sunday afternoon runs! Of course just kidding ... Nike should make some more trail suitable colours.
let's get down to brass tacks! What's up with the Marvel Comics on you wall? Why these issues. Are they the 1st issue of each title that you bought? PS-I'm big Marvel fan myself
Ha. There are just some original comics from the early 80s that I picked years ago at a market in London .. I like marvel so thought I’d put them up … value wise not much but always good to know I have captain America, spider man and hulk behind me!
Really interesting on these James, never tried a Nike trail shoe myself though they look narrow across the midfoot even though wide in the toebox. Have you have any issues with that?
@@movemorenowjames The new Inov8s seem to have a similar shape for the sole where they go in at the middle but sounds like the upper still has a bit of volume to it which is good
@@movemorenowjamesmidfoot width similar to the zegama?? Yay! Would you say ultrafly could be used for interval speed sessions on road, for people who find the vaporfly too narrow and uncomfortable, but love the Pegasus fit?
Just got mine a few weeks ago. Best shoe I’ve ever had by far. Not cheap, but they are the best IMO. Love them!
Great stuff … glad they worked out for you
Happy to hear you enjoy it. Your review actually got me interested since you like Altra too. Toebox looks great :)
Thanks .. there’s a decent amount of space and great feel to them.

The price does sting a bit but so far I am glad I bought them … the zegama was a cool shoe, there’s the zegama 2 coming soon
Glad to hear you've been enjoying the shoe James. I must say it does look quite smart mate. I love a white trail shoe 👌 Solid review mate. 😎🤘
Cheers Ben.. I also like a white trail shoe - I find it “tells a story” better
I am very intrigued with this shoe.., but I am waiting for the zegama 2, for the price on this one is a bit much for me to take on.
I think I may have to purchase the Z2 , looks pretty cool and as always prefer the lower drop

Great follow up review. Love it
Thank you!

Thumbs up for the intro music.
Thanks… quite a cool track
If you want some really good grip for British mud, without going as far a a Mudclaw type shoe, then try the Topo Moutain Racer. Great toe box too
Yup, both great shoes - definitely better grip than the Nike but I guess as I always have a fair bit of road to get to and from the trails at times, I like to keep the tread less aggressive.. thanks 🙏
I remember saying when I got my pair last summer that you would probably appreciate the wide nature of it rather more than me!
I certainly do … and I can why you might not have enjoyed them as much as me!

Thanks for the tip and yes, great shoe!
Just got mine on sale for $140, excited to run in them. I think reviews change based on the price
That’s a bargain. Think i may have a buy a second pair soon. Enjoy
Is the carbon plate comfortable enough to use the shoe as a training shoe?
Definitely yes, I love this shoe and feels great at all tempos etc
How does it handle going uphills?
Personally love the hills - find the plate in combination with the zoom x actually helps

are they replacing Nike Kiger with Ultrafly?
Hi… sorry, I don’t know - I don’t think so though
Are these true to size or did you go up half a size? I’ve got wide feet just wondered on length
True to size .
Picked some up for 50% sale price of just $119! You can pick up 2 for the price of 1!
Do they run true to size?
So I take a 10.5 in all of the Nike trail shoes … so yes, true to size

I really not understand why u need carbon in trail shoes...😅😊
I know what you mean.. at least it doubles up as a rock plate!
Bruh.. Nike isnt pronounced like bike
@@magnumxlpi thanks and noted.

I know what you mean but no, all good with my feet - it’s actually how my feet are shaped so works!! It looks more exaggerated than it is ..
Just done a comparison with the ultra fly and zegama … actually quite similar (just a lot cheaper!)
