I was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 70. The Dr. wanted to remove about two feet of my large bowel to make sure they got all the cancer. Then he said “we should remove your entire large bowel to make sure the cancer doesn’t return “! I said I’ll discuss it with the Lord first” The Dr. later sent me to a large cancer clinic where the oncologist realized I did my homework, including taking capsules 3 times daily that contained sulprophane. He said if I wanted to run the risk of having NO operation at all, I could. It was up to me. That was my answer from the Lord. I’m now 79 yrs. young and had a colonoscopy last year that showed my large intestine was as clean and smooth as a teenager. I laughed, as the colonoscopy also showed where the Dr. had tattooed my bowel as a marker for the possible original removal.

Excellent information. I do grow my own organic sprouts. I use mason jars and seeds called Nature Jim’s. I put the salad mix seeds and the broccoli seeds together. The instructions are on the bags of seeds. I follow those, and give my sprouts one more day in a window to green them up. I don’t put them in direct sunlight though. Use good filtered water always. I find mixing the different seeds lessen the sharp taste of the broccoli sprouts. Day six is when I stop the growth and wash the sprouts well. I store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. My container has a drain in the bottom which can catch any moisture and keep the sprouts dry with air circulating around them. I eat them pretty quickly so I always have another round of sprouts growing. It’s a daily ritual for me to have the sprouts in a salad or a sandwich. I am 9 months out from cancer surgery. I had 3 neurological endocrine tumors. One was on the tail of my pancreas and the other two were on different liver lobes. They were very small and slow growing. They were discovered in an mri I had done to check on some hernia mesh. I had absolutely no symptoms form the tumors. What a surprise! I’m doing well now, but I will have hernia surgery again, as my incision is rather large, and I tend to have weak stomach muscles. Other than that, I’m feeling great, eating my previous healthy whole food /Mediterranean diet. I’m hoping that the tumors will not return. Chemo was not needed. 😊

I LOVE hearing this doctor address Cancer Stem cells because I have had this debate with a few oncologists & doctors for the past 2 yrs. And that chemo & radiation likely does NOT kill them. Interesting, most of the MD trained docs I mentioned this to went "silent" and wouldn't give me a definitive answer....almost as if they were afraid or instructed not to talk about it !! ;) And I insisted a naturopath give me Metformin :) I also eat fresh Moringa Leaves (full of sulfur compounds & phyonutrients) & Mustard seeds...fyi, I think the elevated, exponential sulforaphane enhanced contents in Broccoli Sprouts over raw broccoli is not quite 200 times; I have seen 50 -100 times quoted in many places... still quite high, of course

Of course, they ARE afraid. I know about one doctor who confessed, ( although he trusted other non-standard methods more ), if he told a pt. anything outside of burn, poison or cut he'd , seriously, have to give-up license and move to Mexico.

Broccoli seeds are themselves packed with sulforaphane. I grind them and have a teaspoon of the powder. I recall a Johns Hopkins researcher saying on another TH-cam video that there's no reason not to just eat the seeds (grinding probably necessary to get the full benefit) but that there wasn't any tradition anywhere of doing so, so that the sprouts were better studied and there was more experience with their effectiveness.

While nearly everyone recognizes broccoli as one of the most nutrient-packed vegetables around, few people know about the power hidden within broccoli seeds.
3-day-old broccoli sprouts grown from seeds contain 20 to 50 times more of one of the most important precursors of Sulforaphane found in regular organic broccoli.
Put simply, those who ate the broccoli sprouts were cleansed of cancer-causing substances.
Broccoli is the best known source of a precursor to Sulforaphane - a potent compound responsible for many of broccoli's benefits, including boosting cell enzymes to help protect against Cancer. A team at Johns Hopkins found that a daily serving of broccoli sprouts reduces a marker for the presence of H. pylori by 40%. That’s not enough to cure digestive diseases or assure protection against stomach cancer, but it indicates that eating broccoli sprouts regularly might help reduce levels of these bacteria and risks of the diseases associated with them. This same Hopkins team discovered in 2002 that Sulforaphane is a potent antibiotic against H. Pylori Bacterial infections that can lead to Ulcers.
You would need to eat about 2 pounds of fresh, mature broccoli each week to receive the same amount of this important precursor as just 1 ounce total of broccoli sprouts!
How Many Ways Do Broccoli Sprouts Combat Cancer?
    1. Inflammation: COX-2 and NF-kB appears to promote Angiogenesis, the process that generates New Blood Vessels to support the rapid growth of Tumors. COX-2 may also interact with various “Growth Factors to stimulate the multiplication of malignant cells”, and it appears to inhibit Apoptosis, a (Programmed Cell Death) that helps prevent runaway Tumor growth by triggering cell death by Suicide.
    2. Blood Vessels (Angiogenesis): Reduce the body’s daily intake of certain amino acids, (Glycolosis) which prevents Cancer cells from building new blood vessels. Cancer cells require certain amino acids because they don’t have a built-in vascular system.
    3. Growth Factors (IGF-1): Almost all Cancer cells depend upon several growth factors for their growth and reproduction. Blocking the growth hormone thereby shuts down the process of cell division, an indirect way of eliminating Cancerous cells.
The detrimental effect of high IGF-1 levels was particularly pronounced in men over 60 years of age. In this age group men with the highest levels of IGF-1 were 8 times more likely to develop Prostate Cancer than men with low levels. The elevated IGF-1 levels were found to be present several years before an actual diagnosis of Prostate Cancer was made. The evidence of a strong link between cancer risk and a high level of IGF-1 is now indisputable.
    4. Cell Division: AMPK controls processes relevant to tumor development, including cell cycle progression, protein synthesis, cell growth, and survival. Unlike normal cells that divide a number of times and then die, Cancer cells continuously divide forever. Controlling the amount of times they can divide and force them to (Apoptosis) programmed cell death forces Cancer cells to stop growing. AMPK activators increase the expression of p53, p21and p27 tumor suppressor genes.
    5. Functions: Inhibit production of enzymes and hormones that are essential to their growth, reproduction & Metastasis (spreading to other parts of the body)
    6. Tumor Suppressor Genes: Cancer Tumors Have The ability To ‘Mutate’ Tumor Suppressor Genes so they allow Cancer cells to continuously divide And Grow! How can you help your Immune System kill ‘Defective Tumor Suppressor Genes?
    7. Dendritic Cells: Dendritic cell are Immune System cells whose function is to identify Cancer cells and pathogens like Viruses, Bad Bacteria and Fungus, so the Immune System T cells can then kill them. If a Cancer cell is not identified by a Dendritic cell, the T cells won't know it needs to be killed. The Dendritic cells mark Cancer cells and pathogens by attaching to them as a first step in the Immune System process of killing the Cancer cell or pathogen.
    8. Blood ph Level is Critical: Cancer tumors require a (LOW) Acidity Blood ph to grow. Keeping your blood ph in a (ALKALINE) level 7.35 or above interferes with tumor growth.
    9. Sulforaphane exhibits a unique ability to regulate human genes in such a way as to protect them from mutagenesis, which is just a fancy word for detrimental genetic mutations. Sulforaphane may also cause cancer cells to self-destruct, a process known as Apoptosis. Sulforaphane in Broccoli sprouts also helps remove toxins from the Liver.
    10. Anti-Metastasis: Broccoli sprouts inhibit (Metastasis) spread of Cancer.
    11. Broccoli sprouts are Anti-Angiogenesis (Block new blood vessel growth to tumors and kills (Cancer Stem cells.)
    12. Broccoli sprouts disrupt the MAPK Cancer signaling pathway.
    13. Broccoli sprouts activate Nrf2 detoxifying genes.
    14. Broccoli sprouts block NFkB, 5-LOX and COX-2 Inflammation.
    15. Broccoli sprouts are Anti-Viral and Anti-Bacterial.
    16. Broccoli sprouts boost p21 Tumor Suppressor genes.
    17. Broccoli sprouts kill Cancer Stem Cells.

Excellent interview Ben: well done. Raw Broccoli, raw Brussels Sprouts, raw Radish and other raw 'mustard greens' are an integral part of my veggie garden and frequent salads. The thick stems and older leaves are best cooked in a soup/stew: all the tender snap-able bits are excellent raw. As I understand it, any single-grape wine contains many hundreds of natural organic compounds (200-800+), so I suspect each herb; fruit; veggie; seaweed; nut also has possibly hundreds of natural, organic compounds, and all in nature's ratio (which I reckon is very important). Big pharma cannot patent any natural mineral; plant;herb; fruit; nut; algae, so they extract so-called 'active ingredients', process them industrially, and then patent/brand that manufactured chemical experiment. Hence, the natural foods and drinks that our ancient ancestors thrived/survived on (or we wouldn't be here) delivered nature's ratio of all the organic compounds - not just any single 'active ingredient'. I'm sure your Dad would concur. Keep up the great work.

This said, if you still want to cook your broccoli without damaging the needed enzyme, (I personally am not a fan of the raw florets), you can practice the “hack and hold” (thank you, Dr. Greger!) method. Here’s the short story - myrosinase is heat sensitive, and both glucoraphanin and sulforaphane are not. If you cut your broccoli and allow it to sit for 40 minutes, this give the myrosinase and glucoraphanin enough time to activate sulforaphane. As mentioned, sulforaphane is heat resistant, and once activated, you can then cook and the health benefits stay in tact.

This so great, my colleague and clinical partner must have read your friends research because she came out with her own broccoli seed sprouts supplement. We used to sell it like crazy!! That was back in 2007. I had forgotten all about it until just recently started sprouting again! She’s not in practice anymore but I should send her this video. By the way Doc you are doing it correctly those little root hairs look like mold, my husband almost tossed them until I explained, just rinse them off and keep them going!!

Remarkable study and statistics of the study on mice treated and when "reintroduced" it did not grow! Exciting! The reason there are no Clinical studies done is the obvious...NO money to be made with big PHARMA and Oncologist and even surgeons getting their pay outs.

I am doing microgreens on stainless steel mesh and it is so clean and easy . Some seed is too small but not broccoli . I use a small bit of vinegar and water poured thru worm castings after 2 days in blackout on a heat mat . And 3 days growth. 10 to 100 x the sulforafane of crowns .❤🎉 Huge health difference in food grown or grazed in living soil , it contains the microbes and antidepressants missing from dead soil and gmo crap .

You can cook broccoli up to 140 before the enzyme is destroyed. Cook broccoli sprouts to 160 for 10 minutes and it will triple the amount of Sulforaphane. Use mustard seed to replace any enzyme that was destroyed.

Thanks a lot. I went about 100% whole food plant based about one or two years ago. I often heard Dr. Michael Greger talk about cruciferous vegetables but never saw its powerful effects in real life. Until, in a certain week in a certain month, for various reasons, I had to eat 1 pound of cauliflower and 1 pound of nappa cabbage each day for about 5 days in a row, and immediately the row of about 10 small bumps under my left eye, which had been there for 10 years, completely fell off and disappeared. I was totally amazed. Thank God. God bless!

To prevent moldy broccoli sprouts you first need to kill any bacteria on the seeds by soaking in a vinegar solution with a drop of dish soap or bleach. There are many videos on growing sprouts and slightly different procedures, just make sure you follow one that has the bacteria elimination step.

    Hi Dr
    Thanks for sharing information.
    I love watching your videos
    Keep up the good work.
My question is how much broccoli to eat to kill cancer cells
I been diagnosed with breast cancer last year i only had 2 chemotherapy cycles but was recommended 6 i refused radiation treatment although i had surgery done last year in Dec .
Its been almost 6 weeks on tamoxifen.
What would you have to say about this medicine.
I been advised to take for 5 years
But what happens after 5 years when i stop tamoxifen dose that mean cancer will come back again
