Not exactly accurate. If you own a rifle, for example, and ship it to a gunsmith for repair, rebarrel, anything, they can ship it right back to you in most states. Of course the premise of the intro here is that he had a new one show up on his door step.
Man, 2010 vibes building off a R700. It looks like an M5 inlet. I think hawkins has something that would fit and keep the look you're going for. Good choice going with a bartlein, with a half decent chamber job and a trigger, You'll be hammering steel in no time!
I left another Easter egg towards the beginning of this video. If you can find it, I’ll pin your comment! Also, since this vid, I shaved down the stock for the bottom metal and got it to fit 🎉
What gunsmith you going to use? You plan on having him true the action and bolt before installing the new barrel? As recommended already, Trigger Tech great trigger. I bought a few of the Independence Day TT on sale for 124.99 each. They will go down to 1.5 pounds. Despite the stock indicating no bedding needed, that is true but if you want best chance at accuracy it needs to be full length bedded. I love 308. I built 3. For what it's worth, a well trued Rem 700 action is capable of shooting as well as many high end clones. I've seen it. I've done it.
I ended up doing Bedding job...point bedded with JB weld. Bedded the picatinny rail....yes..attach one end and look for a gap at the other end. Trigger refining....caution...and trigger mod for safety...joining 2 parts...akbakwoods on TH-cam. Not sure what synth stock I got..it was an A series....but...I was impressed...rigid...easy to bed. You're in for fun. Eventually you might get the action tried. Both hand cam timing checked. Extractor upgrade... Lots of leaning and fun ..
if you are looking for the original M40 scope, Hi-Lux makes a modern replica that is very true to the original. And it's not ridiculously expensive either.
@@jamesshoots no problem man. I legit found it by accident cuz I was curious if Hi-Lux was still around and I looked at their lineup and saw the M40 scope and I was like “oh that’s badass!” So I thought I’d mention it since you are putting together an M40 clone. 👍
I found that the rear bottom metal does sit up a bit...then screws down to the action.. I was surprised Nobody seemed to know what i was talking about. I laid it on paper and stenciled the flat surfaces of the screw holes...they were no parallel.
Welcome to the world of bolt-action precision rifles. It’s expensive, but satisfying. It looks like the stock inlet for the bottom metal may be for an M5 or something else. Send me a picture of the stock’s build slip and I could probably help you. May I suggest a Trigger Tech Special trigger for your rifle?
Hey! The link on McMillan’s site isn’t up (at the time of me writing this) but it was the McMillan HTG/TEX - molded in Olive camo - Remington 700 Short Action. I was able to get it to fit in the end though. I took a dremel and shaved of juuuuuust a little bit of the interior and now there’s enough clearance for the bottom metal to fit flush. I heard the Timney triggers aren’t the best. Do you suggest learning on this first before upgrading to the Trigger Tech?
Nice, didn't expect you would do a bolt action next, but I'm not surprised. I was thinking about picking up the Remington 700 Magpul Enhanced in 6.5 Creedmoor and slapping a vortex viper on it. Only thing is, a semi-auto MRRG (Mid-Range Gas Gun) would outperform it in every way, just $$$. SR-25 (6.5), Geissele MRGG, Larue MRGG. But..... porque no los dos?
As someone who has been down this path the rifle you'll end up with will get boring quickly. you'll find that your skill will grow past what the rifle is capable of. There are a lot of issues you'll encounter, leaving you wanting a more modern bolt gun. Itll be a fun but humbling experience. Try running as is for a bit first before swapping the barrel. You might have a really good one and not know it.
Haha so funny you should mention - this is what my original plan was. No wasted parts this way. When I priced it out, it was a little more expensive to buy all of the parts separately, so in the end it was convenient and slightly cheaper to buy the entire gun.
Builds are cool for making what you want but also the work and money for bolt gun builds is ridiculous, contrast a $3000-$4000 build vs a bergara or Aero Solus or DD delta 5 which are about $2000 and you just drop an optic on, or DD makes a delta 5 package with chassis and night force optic for under $4000
I do not understand this. You don't know anything about bolt action rifles, and jump into it building something that is technologically 30 years behind? Why? To make videos that push consumer culture? It's one thing to be a collector who is already a proficient shooter. You are putting yourself at a disadvantage for no reason, and will probably leave this thing in the safe once you realize .308 sucks in the wind and even with an M24 profile, you aren't going to see splash with your uncomped or suppressed .308
@@jamesshootsi think this rifle is going to be sweet. Ive always liked the m24 and 308 is a great cartridge to learn shooting long range with. Ignore the haters and get a good trigger also. Good luck my guy
@jamesshoots this isn't a party, this is a TH-cam comment section. The M40 is an objectively cool rifle, don't get me wrong. But the way you present this as a good idea for getting into long-range shooting is just laughable. You're following the TH-camr consumerist mold of stylish videos complete with journaling (lmao), but it's an exercise in the blind leading the blind. Once you learn how this stuff works, absolutely come back and drive yourself mad on an M40 clone.
@joelerk6298 there is no point in using it in 2024. Is it fine? Yes. For a beginner who has clearly never shot anything further than 300 yards, it will unnecessarily difficult. Especially without a spotter. The doctrine that existed at the time these rifles were in service was to have a two-man team. These days snipers operate in fireteam to squad sized elements and can usually call their own shots given that they're running suppressors, tripods, and modern cartridges.
Just so people and the overlords at TH-cam knows… no, you can’t get a firearm shipped to your house.
Congrats, you found the Easter Egg 😂

Thanks brotha! Yeah I thought I’d have to wait months for the Bartlein but I was able to find it in stock lol. Old school vibes for sure
Similar to what i built but i just put a SPS tactical in a woodland HTG, looking forward to following 😀
Duude the Woodland HTG is so sexy, I love that camo scheme

I highly recommend the Caldwell pic rail adapter and a Harris bipod

What camera do you use to film?
The Sony A7 IV! Usually with a Sigma 24mm f/1.4 or Sony 11mm f/1.8.
Thank you!
1684?
Those hogue stocks suck
Why not have just got a remington action? Why buy a whole rifle just for the action.

The bergaras sell used for like 900 near me so for 1600 you can have an awesome settup.
