It’s so unbelievably frustrating that there are no affordable rifle actions available. It’s cheaper to buy a Remington 700, savage, or Howa and get a custom barrel, that it is to just buy an action.
Dang it, Caleb. This is EXACTLY the video series I did not need to see. Lol. I've been fighting off the urge to build a nice bolt action rifle. I guess there's no fighting it now.
Just a quick note about the Proof Pre-Fit barrels. Proof research guarantees the head spacing of their barrels to the action. The only thing they don’t guarantee is where the caliber etching will end up but in my experience they are always close.
There are several barrel makers that guarantees the headspacing of their barrels to custom actions nowdays. I have a CarbonSix Carbon fiber barrel in 6.5PRC on order right now and they Guarantee .5 inch MOA w/ load development of their barrels. Other barrel makers are getting the action info from the custom action makers and getting the headspace near perfect for custom builds.
The Savage barrel nut system makes it super easy to put together an amazingly accurate rifle, without having to take it to a gunsmith for chambering and installation. With a set of go/no go gauges, I got a Savage pre-fit from Shilen, and put it on a Savage 110 tactical action, in 6mm creedmoor. Shoots lights out!! 115 grain DTAC’s with H4350 can stack shot after shot right on top of each other!
6 months ago I was going thru forums trying to learn how to build a light weight precision rifle. I was doing my head in with the amount of information I was getting. This video is a blessing and has gotten me back on track into building a long range 6.5 creed. Thank you guys!!!
The amount of interchangeability and adjustability appears amazing! Is there a way to do a video showing how/if the tolerance stack-up between parts compares to an action like a factory Remington or Savage action and a precision action like a Stiller, PT&G, or BAT?
Looking forward to this series. Built my first Remage a couple years ago. Been looking at that Solus for awhile. Want to see what mistakes I made the first time.
How refreshing to see a video with such a clean-cut young man. Without going back through all three videos (about 1.5hrs total), will you provide a build list of all the components for this build with prices (as-built)? Also, a list of the specialty tools you used and their prices. It may be above my pay grade, but I won't know unless I ask. Thanks for doing a great on all your videos.
I wish the CC matched what was being said. Good info though. I wish Aero would introduce a left handed version. I would have one in my collection if so.
I need all the pointers I can get, I have a Remington 700 LA 300WM, and trigger assembly. Now I need an accurate medium contour barrel and a good stock to finish the build. I absolutely refuse to use the heavy barrel it came with, it’s ridiculously heavy.
I thought the reason for the no-go gauge is to make sure the bolt doesn't close on it, otherwise the chamber would be worn out, or the barrel isn't made right.
This might be a dumb question, but I'm also a new lurker. Is there anywhere I would have to go to get newly made parts for k31? I don't want to mess with historical pieces. So, if possible, I'd rather try and have a whole new one made with more modern parts.
When you buy a serialized action or lower, are they already designated as a pistol or rifle. I'm asking because I'm considering a bolt action pistol build.
Receivers are neither rifle or handgun, they are ‘Other’ and the caliber is listed as ‘Multi’, as they could potentially be chambered in virtually any caliber.
Yippy’ another 6.5cm build 🥱 I’ll wait for the long action to be available so I can disassociate myself from the 6.5’er vs 308’er hater groups. Seems like a waste of money to build a 5k short action that will barely outperform a ruger american or savage axis build. Juss sayin……
it really is very easy to assemble AR15, and firearms like this one. once you do it once, you'll kick yourself over not having done it sooner (aside from the cost aspects of course). I highly recommend giving it a try with firearms like these. They're very easy to build.
@@bartrice8278 hopefully they offer long actions soon. I really want to build such a rifle in some larger calibers. Already have rifles in 6.5 and .308.
As a “built not bought” type of guy, its depressing to see the price of the action and bolt. 900 chucks, if it was 5 or 6 I’d be all over it already, 700 I’d think about it, anything over that just doesn’t make sense. It will be cheaper and better value to just buy the rifle from aero then do what you need to do it..

You'll see in the next video, it's important regardless, especially with savage style barrels.
I agree he mixed himself up on that bit. Go gauge bolt closes, No-Go the bolt doesn't close. He corrected himself in the next video.
Have been using the triggertech primary in my creedmoor and switch to the diamond and all I can say it’s far superior and well worth the pricetag
Im trying to figure out what action i can use for a .300 blackout build

Great video....well done Brownells
I would use a Boyd’s stock I love a thumb hole laminate stock
Awesome. Looking real forward to this series. Solus looks real nice.
Of all the stocks that you mentioned, are they all compatible with the barrel, nut and trigger hanger? Or do some need to be modified?
Can’t you shim a barrel that won’t close on the go gauge or does that destroy accuracy?

Do the actions come in true LH config?
I don't think they do cuz I looked it up

Is the Solus a standard action or has it been built with accuracy in mind?
I'd want a "pre-64" Winchester action, or something very much like it!

Looks like fun but I will need to win the lottery to afford this one.

As gas operated guns are continually under attack, it may not be a bad idea to own a bolt gun.
