I harvested a Jack Fruit from my orchard today. It was too big for me 55 lbs. so I gave it to some dear friends who are from the Philippines'. They were so happy, I wish you could see their faces. I loved your video and hope to see more of them.Aloha from the Big Island.

Kevin Oloane; Wrongo, I opened a totally ripe Jack Fruit and the sticky sap FLOWED out of it! I also didn't know about the sap, that's why I'm here, to find out how now to proceed. I'm gonna boil the seeds now.

@@curbyweaver4606The sap seems to be worse if you cut the core in half. If you cut around it (imagine slicing an apple so you don't cut through the core) then it seems like there will be less sap.

@damien geoghegan Dried jackfruit smells very similar to the fresh, but not as strong. You loose the texture (chewiness) and juice of a fresh one. It's really not comparable to a fresh in my opinion, but it wouldn't hurt to try it if that's the closest thing you can get to. Let me know how you like it!

I believe its one of the 'trade winds fruit'...there is one much rare, we call it locally as 'marang' and designated as the 'trade winds fruit' only comes out in season like the durian...early September till December...whereas the Jackfuit bears fruit pretty much in year round...we just create smoke from fallen leaves around the base of its trunk...helps inducing the tree to flower and bear fruits more often...same thing we do with our mamgoes...

You should find them in Asian markets...Depending where you are located, I assume Texas or Florida with higher Asian population would have it, or maybe Mexican markets since our jackfruits are from Mexico. Hope you find it and give it a try!

Hillbilly Guru I haven't seen good, ripe jackfruit from a can. A lot of jackfruit in cans are the young green types, which can be cooked (like the vegan pulled pork trend), but it's not meant to be eaten straight out of the can. Fresh ones are so much better. (If they're ripe)
